Trail running & running in Fieberbrunn / PillerseeTal – my experiences

by

Running laps couldn't be more beautiful - runners, joggers, Nordic walkers and trail runners find ideal conditions for their workouts in Fieberbrunn and the entire PillerseeTal. It doesn't matter whether you like running along the river - the Fieberbrunner Ache - or try the mountain slopes with trails and panoramic views. What can you experience while running in Fieberbrunn? Is it worth? And what running routes are there? In my experience report I have put together the most important information for you.

The sun is still just rising above the horizon on this wonderful early summer evening Fieberbrunn in the PillerseeTal. I'm on my run as the big orange ball slowly sinks behind a mountain peak in the distance. It's still well over 20 degrees Celsius and, like every evening during our vacation, I turned up for my little round of endurance sports.

After a long day full of experiences in the mountains - at SUP on the Pillersee, at Jacob's Cross or the Waidring stone slab – I pull myself together to go for a run. And you'll be rewarded with a wonderful view, while you can relax and at times you won't hear anything but the babbling of the Fieberbrunner Ache. For me, running is always a bit of meditation and inner contemplation - and this is particularly good in the nature of Fieberbrunn.

Video – Impressions of trail running in PillerseeTal

Below I have picked out a video for you that shows you how good you are Trail Running and can cover ultra trails. This is the one KAT100 Marathon Trail in Fieberbrunn. That shouldn't put you off - you can also walk comfortably at your own pace in Fieberbrunn and enjoy the beautiful landscape. That's how I did it too. For professionals, on the other hand, the KAT100 should be a magnet for coming to Fieberbrunn.

The evening in Fieberbrunn is ideal for running

The evening, when it is no longer quite so hot, is perfect for your sporting ambitions. If you're a morning person like me and don't like morning exercise, you can do your sunset lap. I tried out a slightly different run every day, always varying it - and in this way I got to know the village in a completely different way. Alternatively, you can also find some official running routes on site that lead through Fieberbrunn and the surrounding area.

My experiences with running and trail running in PillerseeTal

During our two week stay in... Summer I went for a run every evening in Fieberbrunn. Depending on what you plan to do on vacation, you can of course make running and trail running your favorite daily leisure activity - and basically spend all day every day doing it, new ones Running laps to explore.

Ultra runners in particular can take full advantage of what they have to offer in Fieberbrunn and the surrounding area. The entire PillerseeTal is ideal for ultra running because you can do endless kilometers and decide freely how much incline you take on.

Runs with a slight incline are possible

You can do the run with a very slight incline and quickly cover 20 to 50 kilometers in the valley, especially along the river - in each direction. If you need a little more challenge, you can of course also incorporate inclines and run up and down the mountains.

Of course, this is not only interesting for ultra runners, but also for anyone who is interested in more leisurely trail running. Because as we know, what counts most when it comes to trail running is the experience of the landscape - and the pace is secondary.

Trail running in the PillerseeTal is a successful change

I started trail running a year and a half ago and incorporate it into my training program as an alternative to my runs on the asphalt. In our homeland in northern Germany, people tend to have flat land and walk through the forest, but there is no gradient. I was all the more pleased that I could incorporate a few climbs into my runs around Fieberbrunn in Pillersee.

During my stay, I therefore combined regular asphalt runs within the town and in the valley along the river with runs outside of town, up the mountain. This is how you come during yours holiday in Fieberbrunn for a varied running program. If you want to take it a little easier and are a fan of Nordic walking, the difference isn't that big: you simply cover the distances more slowly.

My running laps in Fieberbrunn

I went on very different runs in Fieberbrunn. Every round is wonderful and allows me to change and adapt as much as I want, so that you can always try out new combinations if you spend a longer vacation in Fieberbrunn.

1. Promenade of the Fieberbrunner Ache

My easiest round was on the promenade of the Fieberbrunner Ache, the river that runs through the town. You can really do a wonderful lap and have every opportunity to follow the course of the river on a mixed path for pedestrians and cyclists. To the town exits in the direction of St. Johann in Tirol and on the other side in the direction of Feistenau along the Dandlerau street.

2. Lauchsee circuit

My second lap, which I really enjoyed running, was from the valley station of the Fieberbrunn mountain railway along field paths to Lauchsee and from there further along the Lauchseeweg up a climb that you can walk as far as your fitness allows. If you keep running long enough, you'll eventually come out at the middle station. This route would be a mixture of normal asphalt running and trail running - a very nice combination, in my opinion.

3rd Lindau round

Another very attractive circuit is on the Lindau, which begins at the Fieberbrunn valley station and flows into the Reith. Here you can follow the course of the road and ultimately come back to Dandlerau, which you can then walk back in the opposite direction to Fieberbrunn. Or you can of course expand the round.

Official running routes in Fieberbrunn

The official running routes in Fieberbrunn are marked by a kind of guidance system - similar to the hiking trails. On the signposts you will find information about the length of the route, direction and level of difficulty. Of course, all running routes can also be run in the opposite direction. I found a total of five official running routes.

You can find the directions for the running laps on the Kitzbühel Alps website. The five running laps include: Granbach circuit, the Iron hand round, the Lauchsee circuit, the Andreas Wildhölz round and the Sunnyside round.

Is running in Fieberbrunn worth it?

I think it's clear from my descriptions in this article that running in Fieberbrunn and the PillerseeTal is incredibly worthwhile. The landscape is so wonderful and varied that you can take a different run every day and it won't get boring even after several weeks of vacation.

I really enjoyed my jogging sessions. In addition, the local air and climate are so pleasant. I really enjoyed taking deep breaths here every day during my rounds.

Who are runs, trail runs and walks in Fieberbrunn and PillerseeTal suitable for?

Running in PillerseeTal is suitable for both beginners and advanced runners. You can run flat - for example on the promenade of the Fieberbrunner Ache. If you, as an advanced athlete, want to make your training a little more challenging, you can run on the mountain slopes where there is an almost endless variety of different inclines. This means you can vary the intensity of your training practically infinitely and adapt it to your needs.

Jogging and trail running in Fieberbrunn in the Pillerseetal

My conclusion

Jogging, running and trail running are the ideal leisure activities in the Pillerseetal for anyone who likes endurance training. I jogged through Fieberbrunn every evening and mostly looked at different parts of the town. For example, you can go wonderfully along the river to jog, as the waterfront promenade is well developed throughout the town and there is also a path along the river that leads to neighboring towns.

The route above the town past Lauchsee is also very relaxed and quiet, where there is less traffic and a wonderful panoramic view of the town. I don't think you should miss out on endurance sports during your vacation. If you like Nordic walking, jogging, running and would perhaps like to try trail running, it is ideal to do your sport on holiday in Fieberbrunn in the PillerseeTal.
