Arriving in the mountains is always something very special for us people from the flat north and requires a certain adjustment. The towering, majestic mountain peaks of Tyrol rise imposingly in front of us on all sides - if you're used to flat land, it seems quite unreal and you feel a thrill at the sight of the snow-covered peaks of the Alps Austria eyes in disbelief.

The beautiful architecture with the wooden houses and the overhanging roofs, the flower-covered balconies and magical little churches is so much more beautiful than the plain buildings here.

The alpine air smells of early summer

The air is clear and smells spicy of flowers, herbs – and early summer. The sun is shining much more intensely from the bright blue sky. When we arrived in Fieberbrunn, my first feeling was very clear: in this place I can finally breathe freely again, here I can let go of the stress of everyday life. But that's not all. More on that later.

Like home from the first moment

We feel at home from the first moment - and immediately after our arrival we get a real holiday feeling. Characterized by colorful chalets and the unmistakable sound of the crystal-clear mountain stream, Fieberbrunn is the ideal starting point for our adventures and activities. In our travel report Fieberbrunn and PillerseeTal we would like to introduce you to the most beautiful sights and things to do in the region.

We are on vacation in the Pillerseetal - a small, idyllic region in Tyrol in Austria, which includes the enchanting and crystal-clear Pillersee and the small, quaint villages of the region: Fieberbrunn, Hochfilzen, St. Jakob in Haus, St. Ulrich am Pillersee and Waidring . Truly a temporary home – we stayed at the Hotel Alte Post in Fieberbrunn during our stay in Pillerseetal.
Truly a temporary home – we stayed at the Hotel Alte Post in Fieberbrunn during our stay in Pillerseetal.

After a good night's sleep in our traditional accommodation, the luxurious Hotel Alte Post Fieberbrunn With over 100 years of history, we start our day with a hearty breakfast before we set off, well fortified, to explore the surrounding mountains.

Our first destination: The Streuboden middle station and the Lärchfilzkogel mountain station, which are the starting points to a wonderful hiking area above Fieberbrunn. The climb may be strenuous, but the breathtaking views of the surrounding Alpine peaks and valleys are worth every bead of sweat.

A brief overview of the PillerseeTal in the Kitzbühel Alps

If you don't want to go quite that high, the PillerseeTal offers numerous easier hiking routes, cycle paths - and an almost endless number of activities such as a visit to the Familienland or a ride on Timok's Alpine Coaster - a summer toboggan run - at the Streuboden middle station. Timok's Wild World - an adventure playground - right next door is a real attraction for the kids. Or try the leisurely bike tour around Pillersee.

The route is well signposted and takes you through beautiful meadows and forests, always with the turquoise blue lake in view. A special highlight is the Jacob's Cross on the Buchensteinwand. At 30 meters high and with four accessible viewing platforms, it is the largest accessible summit cross in the world and offers an astonishing 360-degree view of the entire region.

But there is also a lot to discover in the region away from the hiking trails. It's worth taking a detour to the rustic village of St. Jakob in Haus with its idyllic village square and tasteful old farmhouses.

The region also has a lot to offer in terms of cuisine. From hearty Tyrolean delicacies to sweet delicacies such as Kaiserschmarrn and apple strudel - every palate is pampered in the region's cozy inns and cafés. If you ask the locals for their insider tips, you will get wonderful recommendations.

Take the opportunity for wellness and relaxation

But what would a holiday in the mountains be without a good portion of wellness? After an eventful day full of activities in the mountains, there is nothing better than relaxing in the wellness area in the Hotel Alte Post. Four saunas and a large sun terrace with pool await you there. Whether a massage, a sauna session or a swim in the heated outdoor pool on the roof - in Fieberbrunn and the surrounding area you will find everything your wellness heart desires.

Wellness increases the relaxation factor of your holiday many times over. The PillerseeTal is a real insider tip for everyone who wants to combine a holiday in the mountains with a pinch of adventure, a large portion of nature and a good dose of relaxation. So, if our Fieberbrunn travel report whets your appetite, pack your hiking boots and set off for the PillerseeTal. You will not regret it.

Holiday in Fieberbrunn - How do you find the start?

There are so many exciting things to discover in the Pillerseetal that you should make a plan of what you want to see before your holiday. Because once you're there, time flies and you really need a few days to discover everything. The best way to plan your holiday in Fieberbrunn is to make a plan in advance. To get a good overview of the possibilities, I recommend you to visit the official tourism website of the PillerseeTal to visit.

A good introduction to the activities in the Pillerseetal - the local mountain of Fieberbrunn with the Streuboden, the Lärchfilzkogel and, higher up, the Wildseeloder. Travel Report Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal experiences tips sights activities

Alternatively, you can pay a visit to the tourist information center in the village center of Fieberbrunn and get first-hand information there. There you will find the most useful information about accommodation, restaurants, hiking trails, mountain bike routes, climbing areas, wellness offers and much more. You will also receive recommendations for events, festivals or special activities that will take place during your stay.

You can definitely get more out of your vacation by finding out in advance about the numerous options that await you on site. Ultimately, you will have to choose what you do anyway: We were in Fieberbrunn for 12 days and still didn't see everything we wanted to visit during the trip.

With the PillerseeTal Card you get maximum adventure at the best price

One thing we noticed during our entire trip - and we would like to share it with you: If you really want to be active during your vacation, you should definitely get the PillerseeTal Card at the beginning of your vacation. This is important because you can use it to visit the mountain railways, Familienland and many other attractions and sights without having to pay for them every time. Each attraction can be used once per day during the term of the card.

With the Pillerseetal Card, you have free entry to many attractions during the four or six-day period of the card. You can use each attraction once per day. The Pillerseetal Card is not to be confused with the guest card - these are two different cards. Travel Report Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal experiences tips sights activities

If you use the mountain railways every day, it costs a lot more without a Pillerseetal Card. And this is very important: do not confuse the card with the guest card that you receive in your hotel or holiday accommodation. This is yet another card that allows you to use public transport for free. So there are two cards for different purposes. You will receive all information about the Pillerseetal Card here.

I want to inspire you for Fieberbrunn and the PillerseeTal

Holidays in Fieberbrunn and in the PillerseeTal – my local experiences

I had been looking forward to our vacation in PillerseeTal for a long time because I hadn't been to Austria for a few years and wanted to finally enjoy the Alps and the mountain panorama again. And when we arrived on site, we felt incredibly comfortable from the first moment.

We were immediately impressed by the quaint, small villages, the coziness and closeness to nature, the impressive peaks, the green of the forests and the crystal-clear water of the rivers. And the warm welcome that our hosts gave us in Fieberbrunn was simply warm and extraordinary. These are simply the best conditions for spending a completely extraordinary holiday.

On a discovery tour on the Lärchfilzkogel - we spent 14 days in the PillerseeTal and experienced a lot of adventures.

Our biggest motivator right from the start was the PillerseeTal Card. A single ride on the cable car isn't exactly cheap, nor are entrance fees (around 30 euros per ride there and back). If you do a lot, it can cost a lot of money. However, if you have the regional card, you will also want to visit all the sights and attractions that it gives you free entry to.

We took the cable cars twice a day

And that's how we did it: We took the cable cars once or twice a day, went hiking in Fieberbrunn near Streuboden and Lärchfilzkogel, on the Steinplatte and at the Jakobskreuz on the Buchensteinwand - several times each. We are naturally active on vacation - but on this trip we were on the go a lot and covered ten kilometers every day, and in some cases significantly more, thanks to the numerous hikes. Sometimes we walked up and down – or vice versa. Most of the time we took the cable car one way and walked the other way.

Always spent time at Pillersee

In addition to the ascents and descents, we also spent a lot of time at the idyllic Pillersee. The lake is a very, very idyllic spot that is really a feast for the eyes. You can look for a cozy spot by the lake that you have partly all to yourself. And if you dare, you can also go swimming or bathing at a water temperature of 18 degrees in summer. We were also out and about with the SUP and explored the lake from the board.

Even if the lake seems large, you can explore the entire body of water with the board in a few minutes. So we did several laps right away. At the Pillersee there is also a climbing park for beginners and advanced climbers and an archery range. You can eat at the kiosk right on the water or at the trout ranch, a popular restaurant nearby. On Wednesdays in the summer, the lake lights with great live bands take place at the Pillersee.

If you want to go high, you have to start early: In the Pillerrseetal you can do so much that the day flies by. So you need a good plan if you want to experience a lot. Travel Report Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal experiences tips sights activities

We started relatively early in the morning. Time goes by so quickly on vacation when you're doing a lot that you really should leave early. After a hearty breakfast at the Hotel Alte Post, we set off feeling well fortified.

End the day at Lauchsee

Then we went on one or two mountain tours. As a reward for the long day's hikes, we go to the magical Lauchsee every day in the early afternoon (also free entry with the PillerseeTal Card). The idyllic lake is a wonderful natural bathing establishment where you can relax to your heart's content.

In addition, the water of the Lauchsee is quite warm and ideal for swimming as early as May. Afterwards we went to the hotel for wellness. We were very lucky with the Alte Post Fieberbrunn. The four-star hotel has a wonderful wellness area with several saunas, an inviting rooftop pool and a relaxation area with water beds - really highly recommended. You also have your own fitness center and yoga room there. If you are very athletic like us, you are in very good hands there.

Our Fieberbrunn experiences are special

As you may have already noticed, we had a really, really wonderful holiday in Fieberbrunn and the PillerseeTal - and got a little enthusiastic about the region. Our experiences and adventures were truly unique. Something that really impressed us on this trip was the incredible hospitality of the people of the region. Everyone we met was incredibly friendly and helpful. Many people gave us tips on what to see and do in the region.

After our holiday we rave about the Pillerseetal - and are already planning our next trip to Tyrol. Travel Report Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal experiences tips sights activities
The Streuboden reservoir at the middle station in Fieberbrunn: After our holiday we rave about the Pillerseetal - and are already planning our next trip to Tyrol.

The gastronomy in Fieberbrunn and in the entire PillerseeTal did not disappoint us either. Whether in cozy mountain inns, rustic Tyrolean huts or in the restaurants in the village - we have enjoyed excellent meals everywhere, often with regional products and always served with warm hospitality.

The Pillersee - emerald green heart of the valley

The emerald green heart of the PillerseeTal is undoubtedly the Pillersee itself. During our daily discovery tours we often passed the idyllic body of water and stopped there again and again - even if it was just for an hour to dip our feet in the crystal clear, to keep refreshing water.

Because the relaxation factor on Pillersee is very high: The picturesque lake in the middle of partly untouched nature creates an atmosphere of peace and serenity that immediately rubs off on us and immediately creates a holiday feeling.

During our vacation we went to the Pillersee almost every day to relax - even if it was only for an hour. Travel Report Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal experiences tips sights activities
During our vacation we went to the Pillersee almost every day to relax - even if it was only for an hour.

Refreshing water

I can say this much in advance: Pillersee is cool – even in summer. Temperatures rarely rise above 19 degrees Celsius. But this can be a very pleasant and refreshing experience in summer when it is very hot. So at the end of May we were relaxing on the SUP board when the water temperature was 14 degrees and leisurely exploring the lake.

Exploring the lake with one of the numerous pedal or rowing boats also offers a special experience. This means you can admire the breathtaking landscape from the water. In particular, we saw a lot of families renting a pedal boat and really having a lot of fun on the water.

You can hike around the lake and enjoy the beautiful nature - the lake is embedded in mountains and forests and on the southern shore is the enchanting little town of Ortisei. Travel Report Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal experiences tips sights activities

Snacks and drinks right by the lake

Of course, at Pillersee - as in the entire PillerseeTal everywhere and always - your physical needs are well taken care of. For a little hunger in between, the Seestüberl right on the lake offers a variety of snacks and drinks. If you lie on the lawn by the lake, you can quickly grab something there or stop there as a family. While parents take a well-deserved break, their little holiday guests can let off steam in the nearby children's playground.

If you want to do something for your health, you can also get active at Pillersee: At the eastern end of Pillersee there is an inviting Kneipp facility with benches and wooden loungers.

Just enjoy the surroundings, put down your smartphone and take a deep breath – you can really let go at Pillersee. Travel Report Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal experiences tips sights activities

Fun activities for young and old on the lake stage

The Pillersee also offers a number of attractions, most of which are located near the lake stage. In general, the lake stage seems to me to be the lake's most important attraction. In addition to stand up paddling, the Spagga Gaschtn marble course, soft arrow course, kayak rental or fun ball - there is something for every taste and every adventure.

And if you just want to relax, you'll also find the aforementioned sunbathing lawn here, where you can sunbathe directly by the lake and take a bold jump into the Pillersee if you're warm. In July and August, the lake also becomes the scene of the impressive Lake Lights - an event in which the lake shines in bright colors and provides an unforgettable experience.

Travel Report Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal experiences tips sights activities
Danny's SUP rental SUP'n Fun is located directly on the lake stage and cannot be missed.

Parking directly at the lake

It is good to know that there are paid parking spaces available on the east and west banks of the bathing lake and a toll of three euros per car is charged. The fee for a berth is two euros per person. The good news is: Use of all of these amenities is included in the PillerseeTal Card.

Before driving through the barrier into the parking lot, you must - as of June 2023 - show the PillerseeTal-Card at the Forellenranch and receive three euros, which you must deposit at the barrier to the parking lot.

During a relaxing day at the lake, you can fortify yourself in one of the restaurants - like here in the popular trout ranch. Travel Report Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal experiences tips sights activities

Good restaurants around Pillersee

There are various refreshment stops available at Pillersee for culinary delights. The cozy Seestüberl (4,1 stars out of 5) directly at the lake stage as well as the popular Seerestaurant Blattl with a rating of 4,3 stars and the highly recommended trout ranch with excellent 4,6 stars offer a wide range of delicious dishes to delight the palate.

The trout ranch at Pillersee is really a truly delicious experience that thrilled us and should definitely be a place to go on a holiday in the region to relax, soak up the sun and enjoy the refreshing lake water in one way or another.

Impressions and travel photos from Pillersee

Below I have put together some impressions and travel photos for you to show you how beautiful Pillersee is.

Hiking in Fieberbrunn & PillerseeTal – three peaks, three cable cars

If you go to PillerseeTal in summer, hiking is of course on the agenda. Exercise in the fresh air – up the mountain, down the mountain or simply through the middle of the valleys. The landscapes around Fieberbrunn are simply so wonderful that you don't want to do anything other than explore everything. The preferred means of transport for all hiking tours are of course the gondolas and chair lifts.

During our vacation we took the cable car in Fieberbrunn once or twice a day. There are other gondolas and chairlifts on site, many of which only operate in the winter season. Anyone spending their holiday in PillerseeTal should not miss the opportunity to explore three of the region's most beautiful peaks with the mountain railways.

Travel Report Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal experiences tips sights activities
You get free entry to the mountain railways with the PillerseeTal Card:

Of course, this can only be seen as an example. The region around Fieberbrunn is a true hiking paradise (even more hiking trails here) - you will find endless more hiking trails - for example in the valley around Pillersee or from St. Ulrich to Waidring. You can hike around Fieberbrunn until the doctor comes. It's worth it because the landscape is simply wonderful.

In addition to the mountain railway in Fieberbrunn, the gondolas in Waidring are also spectacular vehicles that you should use at least once. And the chairlift takes you up to lofty heights to the Jakobskreuz. No matter whether you want to hike, cycle or just enjoy the view, the mountain railways in PillerseeTal take you to the heights and you can hike and cycle in the high areas to your heart's content. We introduce you to the three mountain railways and their highlights.

1. Fieberbrunn cable car to Streuboden and Lärchfilzkogel

We did this gondola climb about seven times during our vacation - just to enjoy the wonderful view and to be on the mountain pasture Wildalpgatterl Eating Kaiserschmarrn. The Fieberbrunn mountain railway takes you from Fieberbrunn to the Streuboden and the Lärchfilzkogel in two stages. At the Streuboden middle station, an idyllic mountain lake awaits you - the Streuboden reservoir - where you can refresh yourself.

The Bergbahn Fieberbrunn takes you in two stages from Fieberbrunn to Streuboden and Lärchfilzkogel.

There is also an adventure park for children with a playground, climbing garden and a fallow deer enclosure, which is located at the Wildalpgatterl. If you continue to Lärchfilzkogel If you drive, you can hike on a panoramic path and enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys or ride a mountain bike down the trail. From the Lärchfilzkogel you also have a spectacular panoramic view of the entire valley.

The most beautiful hiking route on Streuboden and Lärchfilzkogel

You can also simply hike the route from Streuboden to the Lärchfilzkogel at an altitude of 1.645 meters. This is a very easy to moderate trail that goes uphill from scattered soils. At the level of the Wildalpgatterl the path splits.

You can also bike from Streuboden to the Wildalm and the Lärchfilzkogel. Travel Report Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal experiences tips sights activities
You can also bike from Streuboden to the Wildalm and the Lärchfilzkogel.

From there you can go left along an easier and less steep path or turn right - uphill - and take a much steeper and shorter path to the Lärchfilzkogel. We walked both paths - and if you have time, you can do either path on two different days because they both offer wonderful views.

From the Lärchfilzkogel to the Wildseeloderhaus

If you want to hike even more, you can continue from the Lärchfilzkogel to the Wildseeloderhaus on the idyllic Wildsee. This absolutely idyllic mountain lake is one of the most beautiful in the Tyrolean Alps.

There are wonderful hiking trails at the Wildalm. There you will also find different routes for beginners and advanced. Travel Report Fieberbrunn Pillerseetal experiences tips sights activities

And the Wildseeloderhaus is also an attraction in itself - you can stop by there and let yourself be pampered. On the way to Wildseeloder there is the entrance to the “Morokka” via ferrata.

2. Chairlift to Jakobskreuz and Buchensteinwand

Also the hikes on Jacob's Cross and to the Buchensteinwand are a spectacular and breathtaking experience. It starts with the ride on the chairlift, which starts in St. Jakob in Haus and takes you - open air, so to speak - to the 1456 meter high Buchensteinwand. You can have your camera ready during the ride, because at lofty heights you have wonderful views of the surrounding mountain panorama.

Once at the top you can visit the Jakobskreuz, which at 30 meters high is not just any summit cross, but the largest accessible summit cross in the world. You can look at the mountain world inside through huge panoramic glass panes. And at the top of the cross there are four viewing platforms where you really feel like you're floating between the mountains.

You can also visit various exhibitions on topics such as art, culture and religion in the Jakobskreuz. The impressive beech stone wall also offers numerous hiking and cycling trails and an interesting flower trail.

Of course we were too Hike around the Jakobskreuz. We took the chair lift up and of course first stopped by the restaurant for a cold drink and spent a while at the Jakobskreuz. We then went to the small summit cross on the opposite side and enjoyed the view. Finally, we took a detour along the flower trail before heading back towards the valley.

This time not with the chair lift, but on foot along the road, which is also the hiking trail into the valley to the valley station in St. Jakob in Haus, where we parked. The serpentine road into the valley is wonderfully picturesque. As always, you have a wonderful view and can spend time with grazing cows.

Alternatively, you can choose different routes that lead directly to Fieberbrunn, Holfilzen or St. Ulrich am Pillersee. The hikes are all moderately difficult and last between one and two and a half hours. The paths are well signposted and lead through beautiful landscapes with meadows, forests and alpine pastures.

And what is also highly recommended: the return journey with the chair lift. You feel like you're sitting on a cloud and looking out over the valleys. We did the trip on another day. By the way: With the PillerseeTal Card, admission to the summit cross and travel costs on the chairlift are free. You can also find further information on the website jakobskreuz.at.

3. Waidring cable car to Steinplatte

The mountain railway from Waidring to Steinplatte takes you from Waidring to the 1869 meter high Steinplatte, which lies on the border between Tyrol, Salzburg and Bavaria. The Steinplatte is a paradise for nature lovers, because here you can discover unique flora and fauna and admire fossils from prehistoric times. A special attraction is the Triassic Park, a dinosaur-themed adventure park.

Once you’re there, you can go on a discovery tour. High up on the Steinplatte you will find an adventure course with information stands, giant dinosaurs, a climbing course and a water playground. You can also visit an interactive exhibition in the Triassic Center.

In any case, the theme park at the top of the Steinplatte had us in awe. And if you don't have a head for heights, there's even a viewing platform waiting for you, which goes hundreds of meters into the depths.

The most beautiful hiking route Steinplatte Waidring

We hiked uphill from the mountain station in Waidring. You pass Triassic Park and continue to a storage pond where a very special monster lives: a huge aquatic dinosaur emerges from the depths of the lake every few minutes.

A spectacular event – not just for the children. In general, the Steinplatte high plateau is very pleasant to hike and is also very suitable for people with walking difficulties and families with strollers. You can find more hiking routes here.

From the Dino reservoir, hikers with endurance can continue uphill until they reach the Bäreck mountain station, the summit of the Steinplatte and the Belgian Cross, which together represent the summit of the high plateau. This hiking trail is very easy, pleasant to walk and offered us wonderful views.

Alternatively or in addition to the hiking trail to the summit, you can also hike a little further into the valley from the Steinplatte mountain station. You then hike from the Kammerkör mountain station towards the small Hubertus Chapel and can stop in this extensive high valley up to the Winklmoos-Steinplatte and, for example, at the Möseralm inn there.

Take the gondola back to the valley station

To return to Waidring, you can take the hiking trail into the valley if you have already exhausted yourself on the high plateau. Or even walk into the valley. However, the path seemed quite challenging to me, so it's perhaps better to walk it with fresh energy. Alternatively, you can take the gondola back to the valley station.

I found the very long and wide journey with the modern gondolas to be a very pleasant experience and a highlight in itself. We therefore did the tour several times during our hiking holiday. If you've had a long day on the Steinplatte and have put in a lot of kilometers, you can sit back comfortably in the gondola and enjoy the wonderful view of the PillerseeTal.

Activities and sights in Fieberbrunn and in the PillerseeTal

Not only hiking and biking are big on the program in the PillerseeTal. You can also do numerous activities in the valley that are suitable for the whole family and are a lot of fun. For example, we were in Familienland to go to the salt grotto there - and ended up there on the roller coaster.

There's so much you can do in Pillerseetal - you won't get bored. In the picture: The Lauchsee. Our daily visit was one of the obligatory activities of our vacation because it is simply too beautiful there. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

If you are on holiday in PillerseeTal, you should definitely try to take part in as many of these activities and sights around Fieberbrunn as possible. And best of all: many of the activities are free with the PillerseeTal Card.

1. Family land and salt grotto in St. Jakob in Haus

We ended up in Familieland because we wanted to take a trip to the salt cave there as part of our wellness program. But that's not all - you can't escape the family land. Nothing to me, nothing to you, we were suddenly sitting on the roller coaster and trying out over 50 attractions - such as the largest family roller coaster in Austria, the Wild Raft, the water carousel or the Viking Land.

There is also an indoor hall with a climbing wall, trampoline and slackline, as well as the aforementioned Dead Sea salt cave, which ensures relaxation and health.

The amusement park is open daily in summer from 10 a.m. to 18 p.m. and also offers the opportunity to celebrate children's birthdays. And the best thing: with the PillerseeTal Card, entry is free once a day.

2. Bee trail in St. Ulrich am Pillersee

The St. Ulrich am Pillersee bee trail is an educational and entertaining circular route that introduces visitors to the fascinating world of bees and their importance for nature and people. The path begins at the apiary of the St. Ulrich beekeepers' association and leads through meadows, forests and orchards, where various stations provide information about the way of life, the work and the products of the bees.

3. Timok's Wild World with Alpine Coaster

We also had fun there as adults: At the middle station of the Fieberbrunn mountain railway there is a really great adventure park for children – and adults! – where you can have a lot of fun in the summer. Timok's Wild World on the Streuboden in Fieberbrunn is a family and leisure park at the middle station of the F1 Streuboden gondola. Attractions include Timok's Forest Ropes Course, an exciting adventure course between the trees.

If you prefer something a little quieter, you can watch the tame animals in the fallow deer enclosure a little further away at the Wildalpgatterl or take a leisurely walk around the Streuboden reservoir, which offers a wonderful view of the mountains. Another highlight is the exciting summer toboggan run, where things really get going. The length of the track is 1.160 meters, the height difference is 115 meters and the journey time is around 7 minutes.

4. Lauchsee in Fieberbrunn

The Lauchsee is a natural bathing lake in Fieberbrunn, which is located in an idyllic mountain landscape. From here you have a wonderful view of the Wilder Kaiser, the Loferer Steinberge and the Kitzbühel Alps. The lake is a small bog lake that warms up quickly and is said to have a healing effect on various ailments.

6. Biathlon World Cup path in Hochfilzen

We worked up a sweat on the Biathlon World Cup trail when we rode it on the e-bike. This is a themed trail that introduces visitors to the sport of biathlon. It is located in Hochfilzen. The small town has hosted biathlon world championships several times. The path consists of 16 stations in summer and 12 stations in winter, which explain different aspects of biathlon and make it possible to experience them.

The trail is suitable for all ages and also features a puzzle rally where you can win a biathlon medal.

7. Teufelsklamm between Pillersee and Waidring

Between the Pillersee and Waidring in Tyrol lies the Teufelsklamm, a fascinating gorge that was created by the power of water. The gorge is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers who want to admire the wild, romantic landscape and the thundering waterfalls.

The gorge is around 600 meters long and up to 80 meters deep. It was formed around 14.000 years ago by the meltwater of the Pillersee glacier, which once covered the entire valley. The Teufelsklamm is only accessible via a secured path with bridges and railings, which takes about an hour of walking.

Admission is free, but a donation is requested to support the preservation of the gorge. The gorge is open from May to October - depending on the weather. The gorge owes its name to an old legend, according to which the devil was up to mischief here and annoyed people by throwing stones in their path or destroying their bridge.

8. Bathing lake and Waidring outdoor pool

Unfortunately we weren't there ourselves. But we were told that the swimming lake and the Waidring outdoor pool are a wonderful place to cool off in summer. The pool is a popular excursion destination for families, athletes and those seeking relaxation. The pool offers a large swimming pool for sporty swimming, the idyllic swimming lake for splashing around, a children's pool and a playground so that the little ones can let off steam. And of course there is also a lawn for sunbathing. The water is heated with solar energy and is therefore pleasantly warm.

The Waidring swimming lake and outdoor pool are open from May to September and have a cafeteria, changing rooms and showers. Entry costs 6,50 euros for adults and 3,30 euros for children.

My conclusion

Oh, how beautiful the PillerseeTal is! We had our best one Vacation this year in this picturesque region of Austria, I have to say that very clearly. The hospitality, the coziness, the delicious food, the beautiful weather, the Alpine panorama and the crystal-clear Pillersee made our stay a real pleasure.

We drove almost ten hours by car to Tyrol - and our hearts were beating faster as we arrived. And that didn't stop for the rest of our trip in Fieberbrunn - as you can certainly easily see from our travel report.

We were always well looked after

We were from Marion Pichler We were so incredibly well looked after that we really didn't miss anything on site. We went hiking, rode the gondolas every day, went on e-bike tours and went stand-up paddling - what more could you want? I hadn't been to Austria for a long time and didn't know exactly what to expect in the mountains.

But all of my expectations were far exceeded - our PillerseeTal experiences have been consistently positive. I can only warmly recommend that if you want to experience something completely different - no Mallorca, no North Sea coast - then travel to the Alps in summer. That has something going for it. So much so that we will be coming back soon – namely for skiing.
