A white winter wonderland dipped in powdered sugar – that was my first thought when I saw the snow-covered PillerseeTal with the snow-white, towering mountain peaks. We spent a few days on a skiing holiday in Fieberbrunn and spent one of our most beautiful winter holidays ever between the ski slopes, winter hikes and wellness. What is there to discover in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn? Where is the most beautiful ski slope? And what else can you do? In my winter experience report and travel report, I have put together our very personal impressions and many helpful tips and recommendations for you.

I love it when the sun glistens on the still-firm, prepared snow in the morning and the cold air forms a cloud when I exhale deeply. The snow creaks under your ski boots or skis. On the first descent in the morning, when the piste is still very hard, it sounds as if you are carving the snow while carving.

The distant view on a clear, cold winter day is simply impressive. I don't want to stop enjoying the view. Everything is bathed in brilliant white, as if covered in powdered sugar - and at the same time criss-crossed by winter hiking trails, cross-country ski trails and ski slopes.

In our homeland, white is the norm Winter an extremely rare sight. We enjoy it all the more now: the whole thing Pillersee Tal and the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn are an alpine winter wonderland that has one of the greatest snow guarantees in the entire Alps. Between enthusiasm for skiing and fascination for the landscape

We stand high up on the Lärchfilzkogel and look into the distance while we watch in fascination as the ambitious skiers plunge down the piste towards Streuboden. We don't dare go down the red slope yet - instead we just enjoy the view up here.

We are both beginners when it comes to skiing and come from the flat north Germany, where there are no mountains – just a large indoor ski area. But what kind of comparison is that? Here in Fieberbrunn the passion for skiing has caught us again.

We have a refresher course with the ski instructor Tim von S4 Snowsport Fieberbrunn and are quickly back on our skis. The course lasts two days - and this much can be revealed in advance: Thanks to the 1-on-1 support, we were able to really improve our ski skills.

We made the most of our winter holiday in Fieberbrunn

Our experiences with skiing and winter hiking

We have our winter vacation in Fieberbrunn Thoroughly enjoyed it and had one of the most beautiful winter trips ever and - like in the summer - tried to do and experience as much as possible during our time. Of course, you can spend a lot of time skiing, plunging down the excellently groomed slopes, or simply winter hiking - a wonderful activity that I could spend the whole day doing.

It's so incredibly relaxing to hike directly in the valley on prepared paths, enjoy the cool air and just breathe deeply. This is pure relaxation. And that's exactly what makes one Vacation in Fieberbrunn What's special is that you really get out of everyday life, into the snow and nature - and you can really let go of everything.

1. Skiing in Fieberbrunn – hit the slopes

A winter holiday in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn without skiing? This is – at least for me – really unthinkable. But what do you do when you no longer know how well you can ski? You take a little refresher course - in our case with the Dutch ski instructor Tim.

I was really excited because I hadn't driven for five years and had completely forgotten what level of driving I was at. So I initially assumed that I would be a complete beginner. Far from it, because skiing is like riding a bike - you don't forget it.  

We're starting straight away

And so we were able to get started pretty quickly with Tim. The ski instructor started with us on the small hill at the Fieberbrunn valley station. But it quickly became apparent that my carving skills were still there. And so after just a few minutes we took the drag lift up the first blue slope.

And then you stand there on the hill - and rush down. Be careful at first, but you will quickly regain your confidence in your abilities. And so it didn't take long until we were able to hurl ourselves down the slopes with advanced skills.

From piste to piste

We had an incredibly good time on the slopes of Fieberbrunn with ski instructor Tim from S4 Snowsports. First we were at the valley station and after a short time we took the gondola up to Streuboden, where the long blue piste is located, which leads roughly from the Wildalpgatterl to the Streuboden middle station.

This route is suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers - and there is also an adventurous ski course with hills and a tunnel.

Valley descent is one of my highlights

We really let off steam on this slope. We also tried the valley run. As a blue piste, it is also suitable for beginners, but it can be quite steep in places. You should also do the valley descent in the morning because the slope conditions are better then.

And we watched in admiration at all those who threw themselves down the red slopes of the Lärchfilzkogel and the Doischberg. Achieving this too would perhaps be a project for the coming 2024/2025 ski season, when there is a brand new gondola lift in Fieberbrunn.

2. Winter hiking – a completely underestimated leisure activity

We didn't just go skiing in Fieberbrunn - we also discovered a whole new hobby for ourselves: winter hiking. Normally I'm not a big fan of long tours in the cold season - until now. Because what we experienced in PillerseeTal was really top notch.

As is well known, we went hiking in the PillerseeTal in the summer and discovered everything. In winter you find yourself in a completely different world - in a winter wonderland that can be wonderfully explored on foot, in thick winter boots, snow pants and thick jackets. In the PillerseeTal you will find a whole series of specially designated winter hiking trails that are simply picturesque and wonderful.

Winter hiking on the Steinplatte Waidring

We first went on the winter hiking trail on the Steinplatte Waidring. There, high up, is a true paradise for skiers, who can choose from a number of lifts and routes with different levels of difficulty.

But pedestrians also get their money's worth up here: you first take the gondola from Waidring to the mountain station, enjoy the incredibly beautiful view of the valley and, once at the top, you can walk a long way above the gondola station on the winter hiking trail. There you have access to Triassic Park and the spectacular viewing platform, which is located high above the valley.

Winter hiking at the Streuboden middle station

The second round is the more than three kilometer long hiking trail that begins at the Streuboden middle station at Timoks Wilder Welt and from there leads into the middle of the snow. You can also walk around the Streuboden reservoir, where you have a wonderful panoramic view of the mountains.

What a wonderful path it was, where you can sit comfortably on a bench and enjoy the bright mountain sun. A real winter wonderland awaits you at the Streuboden middle station.

Winter hiking at Lauchsee

From the Fieberbrunn valley station you can hike comfortably along the slope towards the idyllic Lauchsee. Past rustic farms, across open snowfields and along the edge of the forest, you ultimately come to the lake.

And from there you are free to either go back, into the city to Fieberbrunn or take the fork up the road towards Streuboden - also a beautiful hiking trail.

Biathlon World Cup Path Hochfilzen

The fourth route that we really enjoyed was our winter hike on the Biathlon World Cup Path Hochfilzen. You start in Hochfilzen, go to Oberwarming and from there continue uphill on a wide winter hiking trail to the Hoametzl Hut, which is located below the Jakobskreuz. We had the impression that the higher you go here, the more magnificent the winter wonderland that awaits you is.

A section of the Biathlon World Cup path runs in the valley past the beautiful Wiesensee. We already knew the lake from the summer and so we took a short detour here.

Things to do in Fieberbrunn and the surrounding area in winter

If you are on holiday in Fieberbrunn in winter, you will not only get one of the most beautiful ski areas in the Alps with the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. In the PillerseeTal you are also in one of the most picturesque regions in Tyrol, which is covered in powdered sugar in winter. What can you do in Fieberbrunn during your winter holiday? Below I have put together the most important things to do in Fieberbrunn and the surrounding area so that you are guaranteed not to get bored there.

1. Skiing in the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn

Of course, skiing in Fieberbrunn is the number 1 leisure activity in winter. You can really let off steam on site and enjoy breathtakingly beautiful slopes. In the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn you can enjoy over 270 kilometers of slopes, which are divided into 140 kilometers of blue, 112 kilometers of red and 18 kilometers of black pistes.

You will also find 70 modern cable cars and lifts, 60 cozy ski huts and numerous attractions such as Timok's Alpine Coaster at the Streuboden middle station in Fieberbrunn. The Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn is one of the top ski areas in the Alps.

And the area is also ideal for freeriders - with lifts or a short walk you can reach natural slopes - for example on the flanks of the Wildseeloder at 2.119 meters above sea level.

2. Winter hiking in the valley and on the mountain

One of my personal highlights in Fieberbrunn was winter hiking, because in no other activity do you have so much nature to yourself and can enjoy the peace and seclusion on the well-prepared winter hiking trails while enjoying the wonderful view of the Tyrolean Alps.

In Fieberbrunn you can choose between numerous routes in the valley and on the mountain. My favorite round was around the Lauchsee, on Streuboden, on the Biathlon World Cup path Hochfilzen and on the Steinplatte Waidring. You can stop off in many places along the way and enjoy the coziness of the huts.

3. Llama trekking

Llama trekking is basically winter hiking with a llama. Yes, you've read that correctly. You can walk in the snow with the fluffy animals and enjoy the snowy landscape. This is definitely a special experience that can be one of the highlights of your vacation not only for children but also for adults. And it's an incredibly great way to discover the area around Fieberbrunn.

4. Tobogganing

For everyone who isn't as enthusiastic about skiing as I am, there's another excellent tip: just go tobogganing. Sledding is a winter sport for the whole family and definitely a great change after spending a few days on the ski slopes. In the PillerseeTal you will find several toboggan runs with different levels of difficulty, so you are sure to have fun. In Fieberbrunn there is the Diretissima toboggan run. You can find the location of the toboggan runs here. 

5. Timok's Alpine Coaster

If you have a ski pass, you can ride it for free: Timoks Alpine Coaster is an 1100 meter long summer toboggan run that is also open in winter. Of course I didn't miss out on the fun.

The route runs from Streuboden along the slope into the valley and is truly a delight for all the senses. You have a rapid descent and a spectacular view at the same time.  

6. Cross-country skiing

Jogging was yesterday. If you want to have a lot of fun in the snow, strap on your cross-country skis and do your sporty workout in front of a dream winter backdrop. You will find numerous cross-country trails around Fieberbrunn, which are divided into different levels of difficulty.

In the PillerseeTal you will find over 100 kilometers of cross-country ski trails. You can do wonderful cross-country skiing there in winter. The cross-country ski trails around Fieberbrunn are definitely suitable for beginners and advanced skiers alike. You will definitely find the right tour for you around the place.

7. Carriage rides

If the previous activities aren't enough for you, you still have additional options to give your holiday in Fieberbrunn that little something extra - for example with a carriage ride through the snowy mountains. It's really incredibly romantic and an absolute highlight, not just for those who are newly in love. Such a romantic trip might also be the right moment to put a ring on your loved one's finger?

8. Aubad Fieberbrunn – ideal for warming up after a long day outdoors

The Aubad was one of our highlights on our Fieberbrunn holiday - after a long day full of exciting activities, ski tours and winter hikes, there is hardly anything nicer than warming up in the sauna or swimming a few lengths to loosen up your muscles. We spent the first half of our vacation in a beautiful holiday apartment Guesthouse Neumayer spent. And during this time we paid a visit to the Aubad every day in the early evening - the adventure pool in Fieberbrunn with a sauna village.

As big wellness fans, we spent less time in the pool and more time in the beautiful saunas. One of my highlights was the heated outdoor pool, from which you have a wonderful view of the snowy landscape. There is a separate area for children with water games and slides. The Aubad is therefore an ideal destination for families, couples and solo travelers who are looking for relaxation after sporting activities.

Our local hotel – the Vaya Fieberbrunn Resort

The Vaya Fieberbrunn is definitely one of the most beautiful hotels and resorts in the PillerseeTal. The modern and only a few years old hotel is located very close to the valley station and is therefore ideal for skiers and hikers who want to go to the ski area of ​​Fieberbrunn.

We had in Vaya Fieberbrunn (experience report) We had a really good time at the hotel and particularly enjoyed our beautiful, modern room with traditional, cozy wooden elements as well as the beautiful wellness area with sauna and pool.

In addition, of course, there is the resort's excellent food: in the morning there was a rich breakfast with everything your heart could desire to strengthen you before the day's activities. In the evenings there was traditional and international fusion cuisine that pleased the heart and put a smile on our faces every evening.

It was one of the most beautiful winter experiences we've had so far: A skiing holiday in Fieberbrunn in the PillerseeTal is simply a winter fairy tale - absolutely wonderful and full of surprises. There is so much you can do and experience when you visit in winter. Of course it is Skiing was the preferred activity at the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn – and we enjoyed exploring some of the wonderful slopes.

But the place also has something to offer for tobogganers, cross-country skiers, winter hikers and wellness fans - for example taking a sauna in the Aubad or the Vaya Hotel. And a lantern hike also took place during our time there. The program of activities and activities is extremely varied.

You can therefore take full advantage of everything when you visit the Pillerseetal. We're still really excited after our vacation - I'd love to pack my things again tomorrow and return to the slopes in Fieberbrunn. We will definitely be back – in summer, winter or both.
