Fit, fitter, sports holiday – exciting travel destinations worldwide
Basically, you can go on an active holiday in almost every country in the world. However, in some holiday regions this works better than in others. Because they have either specialized in sports trips and action holidays or are simply naturally equipped with attractive action infrastructure such as rushing rivers and gorges for whitewater tours and bare rocky slopes for climbing. Such landscapes are simply predestined for a sports holiday.
1. Austria: Active vacation in the Alps
One of the best travel destinations for active holidays is our small neighboring country Austria. Impressive mountain backdrops, valleys and gorges as well as a wide, flat plain in the east make the country not only an attractive destination for skiers, but also for cyclists, mountaineers, hikers, climbers, mountain bikers and white water rafting fans.
The idyllic mountain landscapes and often untouched nature ensure that the country is simply attractive for athletes and active people. Austria is also a famous travel destination for divers. You can dive as a scuba diver in numerous crystal-clear lakes such as the Attersee or the Grüner See.
2. Sports holiday in Germany: short journey, great fun factor
You can also spend a wonderful sports holiday in your local area. On the one hand, the Baltic Sea coast and North Sea coast are perfect for water sports and offer you many options from jet skiing, sailing, stand-up paddling to windsurfing and surfing. An active holiday by the sea is the perfect opportunity to combine the trip with a beach holiday or with one of the great wellness hotels directly on the beach. Germany offers attractive landscapes all over the country to enjoy a sports holiday in your local area. In the low mountain ranges and in the Harz Mountains you can enjoy wonderful mountain biking, hiking, skiing in winter and a variety of other outdoor activities.
The situation is similar in the south and in the west. Extensive, natural forests and partly sparsely populated landscapes enable athletes to really let off steam with cycling, jogging, horse riding and many other outdoor sports. Two other factors make Germany particularly attractive for active vacationers: Firstly, you can easily travel by car. And on the other hand, there are numerous attractive, high-quality wellness hotels in this country that offer you the necessary infrastructure that you need for a perfect sports trip.
3. Romania: Active holiday between the Carpathians and the Black Sea
For travelers with a slightly lower budget, an active holiday in Romania is an exciting alternative. The country in Eastern Europe has incredibly beautiful, untouched natural landscapes, offers you an attractive selection of hotels and, of course, you can also take this opportunity to experience the gruesome story of Count Dracula while exploring Transylvania by bike. Romania is currently one of the insider tip travel destinations in Europe. Anyone looking for an up-and-coming and affordable destination for their active trip is in good hands in Romania.
4. Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria: Active holidays in the Canary Islands
The Canary Islands are definitely one of the best travel destinations for active vacationers. The diverse islands off the African coast, with their year-round mild climate and often stable weather, are ideal for long bike rides on the mountain, hiking between volcanic landscapes, swimming in the Atlantic, diving with 1000 meters of fishing or stand-up paddling. Tenerife (travel report), Lanzarote (travel report) and Gran Canaria (travel report) also have an excellent tourist infrastructure with many great and increasingly high-class hotels that offer the optimal starting point for your excursions and tours.
5. Active vacation in Thailand: come to adventure land
If you are well trained and have a stable circulation, you can also spend your active vacation in tropical climes. Because in Thailand you often have high temperatures with high humidity - this is not for the faint of heart. An active holiday in Thailand combines the paradisiacal beaches, the untamed nature of the jungle and lots of outdoor sports. Of course you can do diving, snorkeling, surfing, stand up paddling, and all the sports that are popular in the water. You can also hike in the jungle, go kayaking in the nature park and just relax and enjoy time on the dream beach or hotel pool.
6. Florida: Sports vacation par excellence
For endurance athletes, Florida is a hit. At least in the slightly cooler and drier winter months, you can go jogging on the promenade on Miami Beach and explore several kilometers of beaches on foot. Jogging and exercising on the beach wasn't a thing in the 80s, it's still very popular today in Miami and the other dream beaches in the Sunshine State. Of course, you can also try out one of the 1000 other fun sports in Florida, such as Quidditch. Or you can go diving in the Florida Keys. Basically, the entire state is a big adventure playground in which you can really let off steam as an active vacationer in Florida.
Active holiday tips – this is how it gets particularly intense
If you want to make your active holiday a very special experience, you can adjust a few things. If you plan well in advance, are open to new things and can take a deep breath, you will have a very exciting new travel experience. What does that mean specifically?
1. Make a plan before the trip
Anyone who only plans their activities on site is wasting valuable time. So plan at home what you want to do later on your active holiday. Research providers where you can practice the sports you want and, if necessary, rent equipment from. Prepare as much as possible at home as this will save you valuable time during your trip.
2. Try new sports
You love cycling, jogging and go skiing in winter. All of these are great sports that you can do particularly well on vacation because you finally have time for it. But why not try something new? Grab a surfboard on the beach and try surfing - it's super tiring at first, but with a little practice you'll quickly get the hang of it. Or take a diving course, because learning to dive is not difficult and the underwater world is incredibly breathtaking and fascinating. A skydive or a white water tour can also add a lot of action to your vacation - and get your circulation going.
3. Combines multiple sports or travel themes
Some people are big fans of always doing the same thing. You ride a racing bike for a week on vacation, stand on your stand-up paddling board every day or go jogging at seven in the morning. If you really want to get more out of your active holiday, you should simply add a bit of variety and combine several sports that you really enjoy. For example, I love combining stand up paddling, jogging and diving on vacation. If I have the opportunity, I also include surfing in the program. In the future, the list could even be expanded – namely to include riding electric scooters “e-scooters”.
4. Test new equipment on the trip
If you practice a certain sport that requires a lot of equipment, you can try it out on vacation. This has two advantages: On the one hand, you finally have time to spend on the new sports equipment. On the other hand, it's just a lot of fun and brings new impetus to the sport you practice if you buy a little new equipment and suitable travel gadgets. You can make your active trip even more exciting by doing some shopping before your vacation.
5. Give yourself time out
Some people always have to overdo it. I remember this myself from a few trips: out of bed at six in the morning, four to five dives throughout the day and in the evening we were back home at 22 p.m. and fell into bed completely exhausted. The next day the same program started. On the flight back we thought to ourselves: a week's vacation would be nice. Today I say: stop, stop! Take time out during your active holiday and treat yourself to a few breaks in between.
This doesn't just have one or two advantages, but several: On the one hand, the vacation really has a relaxing factor. On the other hand, during the rest periods you can review what you have experienced and have a much more intense memory of the details of your tour after the trip than if you rush through your vacation with tunnel vision and don't allow yourself a break.
Early booking or last minute? So you can book active holidays cheap
In order to be able to book your active holiday cheaply, you have three options: Firstly, you should do good research and think about which travel destination seems suitable to you. On the other hand, if possible, you should choose a cheap travel destination where the cost of living and flight prices are low - and the hotels are also of a high standard with low costs. That's half the battle when it comes to being able to book your active holiday cheaply.
As soon as you have picked out the key details, you should secure your trip as an early bird. Tour operators often give discounts for everyone who books their vacation particularly early. This has the advantage for the organizers that they have greater planning security. Another option for a particularly cheap action trip is to book the holiday Very Last Minute - that is, really at the last minute. If you are flexible in terms of time and region, you can save up to 70 percent of the travel price if you book two to five days before departure.

Action trips: lots of things going on on vacation
Active vacation is a relative term. For some, just strolling through the center of the holiday destination is an activity on holiday. For the adrenaline junkies among active vacationers, however, it has to be a real action trip. Skydiving, bungee jumping from a 100 meter high bridge, white water rafting with rapids and climbing on bare rock faces are definitely part of your repertoire - and you won't be satisfied until your adrenaline levels shoot up. Can be done, does not have to be.

This is how active holidays become an experience
My conclusion
An active holiday is such an exciting holiday experience because it really catapults you out of everyday life. If you think that you can only really relax and unwind on a beach vacation or wellness vacation, you may be wrong. Because if you lie around on the beach all day, you first have to try to let go of work and stress at home and really switch off. On the other hand, those who experience a lot on an active holiday are virtually catapulted out of everyday life. Within two days, the stress at work is completely forgotten because you are simply distracted by it.
The best way is to combine an active holiday or sports trip with wellness, beach and relaxation as well as good food and some culture. If you add variety to your trip, you will simply experience more in the end. Going for a jog or riding a bike every day ends up being monotonous. Experienced holidaymakers therefore skilfully combine different experiences and get the most out of their active holiday.

I also think that you can enjoy a holiday all year round because there are always countries where it is warm at the moment. My brother and I would like to book an active holiday. Hopefully we can quickly agree on the hotel.
Of course, you will quickly agree that there are so many great travel destinations for active holidays for every season! 🙂
