As a native of Fieberunner, you live in a region where others go on vacation. How did you grow up in PillerseeTal?

Marion Pichler: As a child, my parents took me hiking, skiing, cross-country skiing, tobogganing and swimming. We spent more time in nature than in the house. I was a member of the Fieberbrunn Ski Club and the Alpine Club. At the age of four I was already able to ski down the slopes in Fieberbrunn and swim in the Lauchsee. I was lucky that my parents were very sporty and it was normal for us to spend our free time outdoors.

You are an advocate of the PillerseeTal with heart and soul. How did you come to TVB?

Marion Pichler: After graduating from school, I immediately started working in a neighboring town at the tourism association (originally only for a year before I wanted to study). But things turned out differently: I became a mother and then worked in a ski school, a hotel and a newspaper publisher until I started at the PillerseeTal Tourist Association 27 years ago.

I enjoyed interacting with both the guests and the landlords at the TVB PillerseeTal information counter. My goal was and is to show the beauty of our valley and to give helpful tips for an unforgettable stay.

Fieberbrunn in the PillerseeTal is your hometown. What makes the place and the region so special and unique?

Marion Pichler: It's the diversity in the region. The mixture of tourism and handicraft businesses. The sports offer - I can cycle, hike, ski, toboggan, cross-country ski and swim in front of the front door. And of course the good air and good drinking water.

What do you love most about your life in the Alps?

Marion Pichler: As described above, since I like to be active, I can start all this right outside the front door and don't have to drive for miles. I'm really grateful for that.

Which do you prefer - hiking or e-biking?

Marion Pichler: Both 🙂

What makes hiking in the Alps special for you compared to other hiking destinations around the world?

Marion Pichler: I can't answer that now because I've actually only hiked in the mountains so far.

Is there a specific hiking route that you particularly like or would recommend? Why this one?

Marion Pichler: Actually, there is no favorite route. Every hike, even a short one, always has its own charm. If you consciously go to the mountains and stop for a moment, you always discover something new, and I do too. And there are still so many peaks and mountains in the PillerseeTal that I still have on my bucket list.

What was the most impressive experience you had while hiking in the Alps?

Marion Pichler: There isn't a very special one. It is always impressive when you sit somewhere alone and the buzzard circles overhead, the torrent splashes and you are completely with yourself. That always grounds me the most, I'm always impressed by how balanced I come from the mountain back to the valley.

How do you prepare for your hikes, especially considering the weather conditions in the Alps? Do you have any special rituals or routines that you follow before, during or after a hike?

Marion Pichler: No special rituals. The most important thing for me is always the planning. How high does it go, how far does it go. Is my ability and condition OK for this hike? The worst thing is always overconfidence. Rather a small hike and this with pleasure. The weather forecast is also important, always take something to drink and a small snack (possibly apple, glucose) with you. Always pack a jacket, too, because it's always cooler in the mountains. And of course good shoes. What's also important to me is that my family always knows where I'm going. Also very important: I am not “on the run” – always plan enough time and enjoy the hike.

How has life in Fieberbrunn shaped your attitude towards environmental protection and sustainability?

Marion Pichler: Environmental protection and sustainability are not new topics for me. My parents and grandparents raised me to do this. If you are out in nature or on the mountain, you take your rubbish home with you. Am a child of the 60s 🙂 🙂

Are there any special tips or advice you would give to visitors or newcomers to hiking in the Alps?

Marion Pichler: Don't overestimate yourself, good shoes, good planning of the hike. If you are not quite sure, it is better to go up the mountains with a guide.

What do you think of the increasing technology and digitization in the outdoor area (e.g. hiking apps, fitness trackers)?

Marion Pichler: Some apps are good. But don't just rely on the app. Maybe you can take the good old hiking map with you.

Marion was our press officer during our trip to PillerseeTal. During our time on site, she showed a commitment that went far beyond the usual, professional level and made our stay a very special experience. You can tell that she is an advocate of her beautiful home region with all her heart. That is why this post is dedicated to her. We would like to thank you very, very much for the interview and even more for the outstanding, unique journey that made it possible in the first place.

A picturesque region in Tyrol: the PillerseeTal.

The PillerseeTal is a picturesque holiday destination that is centrally located in the Kitzbühel Alps. We really spent a unique holiday in the PillerseeTal and loved the idyllic region Austria with the E bike, at the SUP on the Pillersee and on daily trips with the Lifts discovered on site. The numerous Excursion destinations in PillerseeTal offer something for every taste - you can hike, bike or try trail running in summer. And if you want to cool off, there are refreshing, natural swimming pools like the Lauchsee. In winter, you can discover the region on skis - either in the extensive ski area with wonderful runs of varying levels of difficulty, suitable for beginners to professionals - or on cross-country skis.
