The Pillersee is one of the most beautiful and idyllic bodies of water in Tyrol with crystal-clear, green-blue water, numerous types of fish and an enchanting location, embedded in a picturesque mountain panorama. One of the most exciting ways to discover the lake is by stand-up paddleboarding. What is there to discover while SUPing on the Pillersee? What should you pay attention to? And where can you rent a board? I have put together all the information for you so that you can take an unforgettable trip to this beautiful body of water.
As an experienced stand-up paddler you probably know what I'm talking about: Stand Up Paddling is the ideal combination of effective whole-body training and liberating meditation. You don't throw yourself into the waves with your paddle or go on an action-packed tour, but rather glide along leisurely, carefully observing your surroundings and absorbing the impressions.
You look around, you see the fish below you in the crystal clear water, you would like to jump in and look at the magical, untouched nature and the impressive mountain panorama while you glide over the water with a few skillful paddle strokes.
You feel fulfilled by the beauty and grace that surrounds you, you become calmer and can let go of everyday stress. That's exactly what SUP feels like on the Pillersee - the perfect outdoor sport - and that's exactly why I can tell you that stand-up paddling on the water in the Pillerseetal of the same name is one of the most pleasant and exciting stand-up paddling experiences in the German-speaking region .

My experiences with SUP on the Pillersee
Even before our trip, we looked where we could stand up paddling in the PillerseeTal, because I love trying out new lakes with stand up paddling on vacation. Since the Pillersee is the largest and most impressive body of water in the region, it made sense from the start to look around for SUP rentals there. And so we quickly found what we were looking for:
There is one at Pillersee SUP provider SUP’n Fun, which is located directly and conspicuously next to the lake stage. Of course, we first researched on Google and Instagram and saw the beautiful pictures there - that motivated us to get in touch with Danny, the owner of the water sports center, and to stop by the lake after a quick appointment.
It's quick and unbureaucratic to get on the water
Danny is a super chilled and friendly surfer guy who we hit it off with straight away. The Fieberbrunner has been running the SUP rental for years and is also significantly involved in the marble course at Pillersee - the Spågga Gåschtn - and the Boschiessen.
For our SUP adventure we get really chic and new hardboards and light carbon paddles from Danny - the best conditions for a tour. The SUPs are already ready for us on the water, so we still have to stand up and start paddling.
Stand-up paddling tour on the Pillersee with a mountain panorama
We wade through the crystal clear water of the Pillersee, get on our boards and start paddling. The boards glide through the smooth water of the lake. There is only a very light breeze. Especially in the shore area, the water is beautifully drawn in shades of green. Small fish are curiously doing their rounds everywhere. We drive slowly and comfortably in the direction of Sankt Ulrich, past the small jetty.
On the opposite side of the lake is the Seerestaurant Blattl. We paddled quite a bit. Sooner or later, however, you will end up in shallow water - and that's the end of it on this side of the lake, because the paddle will pierce the water plants there and could affect the flora of the lake.
A highlight is the northern end of the lake
So it's back left shoulder, all the way along the west side all the way up to the top of the body of water. There the lake narrows to a river that runs in the direction of the trout ranch. The water up there is very shallow and crystal clear - a beautiful sight. From there we turned around again - and immediately did another lap across the entire lake.
During our tour we were able to enjoy the wonderful mountain panorama with the Jakobskreuz in the south and the Steinplatte Waidring in the north, while the lake itself is embedded in the extensive nature of the surrounding coniferous forests. The Pillersee looks very big. However, if you are out and about with the SUP board, it is not that huge and you can circumnavigate the lake in well under an hour.
After our wonderfully relaxed SUP tour we were of course incredibly hungry - and stopped at the trout ranch - not for a trout, but for a huge schnitzel, which is really recommendable. Alternatively, you can also eat directly at the lake in the Seestüberl, on the other side in the Seerestaurant Blattl or in the Gasthof St. Adolari, all of which have been recommended to us several times.

Directions and parking at SUP'n Fun am Pillersee
At first glance, getting to SUP'n Fun is not that easy. But once you know how to get there, it's easy. It's best to drive - for example if you're in the Hotel Alte Post Fieberbrunn (field report) If you live and come from the south - take the regional bus to St. Ulrich Angelteich - that is the stop at the trout ranch.
From there you only have to walk a few hundred meters to the lake stage, where SUP'n Fun is also located. By bike you can simply ride on the bike paths around the lake and sooner or later you will inevitably come out at the water sports center, which is located diagonally opposite the Seestüberl.
By car you drive to the trout ranch and there through the barrier. Please have cash ready and pay the three euro parking fee at the entrance. if you PillerseeTal Card booked, the parking fee and the mooring fee at the lake are included. You then have to stop at the trout ranch on arrival, show your card at the counter there and receive three euros, which you have to insert at the entrance to the parking lot.

SUP on the Pillersee Experience report - stand-up paddling with a panoramic view?
My conclusion
The SUP on the Pillersee was simply incredibly beautiful. We borrowed a SUP board from Danny and initially spent half a day on the water because the lake is so great for paddling. You see the crystal clear, green water below you and are surrounded by the Alpine panorama. You feel so free when you see this and you can really breathe deeply.
Overall, the lake is relatively small, so you can get through it quickly in one lap - and will therefore do several laps. In midsummer, the water is of course also ideal for swimming after a courageous jump from the board. However, the water is relatively fresh with a maximum temperature of 19 degrees in midsummer.
I can definitely recommend the SUP on the Pillersee. The lake is one of the most beautiful locations I have paddled on in Europe so far.
