by

One of the main reasons why a Red Sea holiday in Egypt is so wonderful is because of the luxurious hotels and resorts that await you there. I have now vacationed on the Red Sea more than a dozen times and visited very different accommodations in Egypt. What distinguishes the best hotels? Which houses are recommended? I have put together my personal experiences and recommendations for hotels and resorts in Egypt with a small ranking for you. There is definitely the perfect place for your vacation.

It's eight in the morning, the sun is already shining bright and hot from the sky and the sea Egypt is mirror-smooth. What a picture-perfect day. You stand happily and contentedly at the end of the jetty with your wife or husband, holding your snorkeling equipment in your hand and enjoying the colorful ones sea animalsthat you just saw on your snorkeling tour. You quickly go back to your room, change your clothes and make your way to the breakfast buffet.

It smells of coffee, crispy croissants and an omelet is being freshly prepared before your eyes. First have a hearty breakfast before going to the beach lounger, to the pool or perhaps to a dive at the diving school. This is what a typical morning on the Red Sea looks like in one of the luxurious Hotels and resorts that exist along the entire coast.

I've always been lucky with my choice of hotel

Egypt is a magnet for divers - and that's why I've vacationed so often in this diverse country. And was lucky to get to know many excellent hotels and resorts during this time. I've been there several times Makadi Bay, Soma Bay and Safaga, was at Sinai in Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab – and my favorite region on the Red Sea is between El Quseir and Marsa Alam.

There are excellent hotels there that are second to none. To be honest: I haven't really made a mistake when choosing a hotel in Egypt yet. For this reason, I have put together a small ranking for you with the hotels and resorts in Egypt that I have already visited and that I really liked.

As you know, Marsa Alam is my favorite region on the Red Sea - and that's why I've picked out a video for you that introduces a few of the most beautiful hotels in Marsa Alam - including the Hilton Resort Marsa Alam Nubian Village, which we will visit in December 2023. Don't be surprised - the video is in English, because many readers are on mine Travel Blog come from other European countries, don’t speak German – and everyone actually understands English.

The most beautiful hotels & resorts in Egypt

My personal ranking

If there is one thing I have learned about hotels & resorts in Egypt over time, it is that whether a hotel is perceived and rated as good or bad is a highly subjective matter. I thought to myself many times before my holiday in Egypt. Uh oh, the reviews are so bad – what can I expect there? And then on site I was pleasantly surprised.

But what you can definitely see is a trend. If hotels are repeatedly rated good or bad on a certain point, there may well be some truth in it. Otherwise, your only option is to see for yourself on site. Below I will introduce you to the hotels and resorts in Egypt that I think are particularly good and worth visiting. Of course, I don't guarantee satisfaction - you have to find out for yourself whether you like a hotel or not.

1. Mövenpick Resort El Quseir – on the most beautiful house reef

I think this is the most beautiful hotel I have visited in Egypt so far. The resort in the style of a Nubian village really leaves nothing to be desired. It is relatively isolated north of El Quseir. You live in small apartment blocks. The food is excellent at breakfast and dinner. The small beach is really idyllic with shallow water and is not too crowded because of that Movenpick Resort El Quseir is not that big.

The highlight, however, is once again underwater: the house reef of the Mövenpick Resort El Quseir – El Quadim Bay. You don't need to go on any diving or snorkeling trips because the best spot is right on your doorstep. The house reef is one of the best on the Red Sea.

My personal opinion: I love this hotel for its quiet and relaxed atmosphere, good food and diving. The Nubian village-style complex is a feast for the eyes. The high number of repeat guests – “repeaters” – speaks for itself.

My personal ranking: 9,4 out of 10 points – Google Reviews: 4,7 from 5 stars - Review on TripAdvisor

2. Hilton Marsa Alam Nubian Resort

The Hilton Marsa Alam In my opinion, it has one of the most beautiful hotel complexes on the Red Sea. The hotel near Marsa Alam is designed in the style of a Nubian village and is located on the famous Bay of Abu Dabbab. The hotel is ideal for anyone staying here snorkel and dive want to go. The beach is very nice - but the hotel's private beach is in a nature reserve, so you have to walk a few meters before you can go swimming.

The food in the hotel is solid and the staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. But as I said, the highlight is the beautiful, spacious hotel complex with the low buildings.

My personal opinion: The Hilton Marsa Alam is one of the most beautiful hotels in Marsa Alam and ideal for those who want to dive and snorkel during their vacation in Abu Dabbab Bay.

3. Cleopatra Luxury Resort Sharm El Sheikh – quiet luxury

The Cleopatra Luxury Resort Sharm El Sheikh is also one of my big favorites. There's a lot that's right about this resort - from the wonderful rooms to the great hotel grounds to the food. The diving and snorkeling takes place with an excellent diving center under Egyptian management. The beach is not that small and the water is not that nice here. The wonderful house reef can be reached via a jetty. Of course, if you dare, you can also go swimming there.

I don't have much to say about diving in Sharm El Sheikh. You can do fantastic diving at Ras Mohammed. And at Saber’s VIP Diving College you are absolutely in good hands.

My conclusion is therefore clear: A whole wonderful upscale hotel with delicious food and a great hotel complex. Diving is typical of Sinai. Not quite as busy as in the south, but still very nice.

4. The Three Corners Fayrouz Plaza Beach Resort

I have to say that I never thought that would happen Three Corners Fayrouz Plaza Beach Resort ended up in third place in my ranking - because the hotel and I had certain teething problems. But here, on the one hand, the overall package and the price-performance ratio are right. The hotel is a bit old and in need of renovation. You have a relatively large number of holidaymakers from Eastern Europe who like to drink and get drunk all day long.

The Fayrouz has a beautiful hotel complex. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

But that's about it with the disadvantages. The food is okay. The location of the hotel, about a kilometer south of Port Ghalib, is perfect. You have a really great, spacious hotel complex with several beach sections, a long jetty and lots of opportunities for snorkeling - an inner reef for beginners and an outer reef for advanced users. The water is partly lagoon-like. You can also walk along the beach to Port Ghalib. And my highlight: About a kilometer away is Marsa Mubarak Bay, where a manatee lives - which we also saw.

My personal opinion: You get excellent value for money at Fayrouz. The Relax Beach for adults is great for relaxing. The multi-faceted house reef is ideal for snorkeling. The bottom line is that you get a lot for little money here.

5. Cleopatra Luxury Resort Makadi Bay – large and luxurious

The Cleopatra Luxury Resort Makadi Bay is very different to its smaller and quieter sister hotel in Sharm El Sheikh. The hotel complex is huge. You will usually be driven around the area in golf carts. Despite its size, the hotel is extremely luxurious. The food is very good. And diving is available with a real quality base – the Extra Divers Makadi Bay. There are wonderful reefs on the doorstep like the Makadi house reef.

My conclusion about this hotel: Not as nice as the sister hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, but still absolutely upscale. You can really enjoy yourself here with good food and one of the beautiful pools.

Mövenpick Resort Soma Bay experiences reviews reviews travelogue
Mövenpick Resort Soma Bay – my winner. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

6. Mövenpick Resort Soma Bay – winner of hearts

The Movenpick Resort Soma Bay – now equipped with a water park – and called Mövenpick Waterpark Resort, is the winner of my heart. The hotel is certainly not perfect - it definitely has its weak points. But it scores with its friendly staff and family atmosphere as well as an unbeatable price-performance ratio.

In addition, the beach in the middle of Soma Bay is really wonderful. At Mövenpick Soma Bay we only paid 1000 euros per person for three weeks of all inclusive including a flight with Condor and local transfer to the hotel.

A highlight is the beach at the Mövenpick Resort Soma Bay. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

Furthermore, the Scuba World Divers diving center is simply great. I had incredibly great diving tours with the Dive Center - we were, among other things, on the famous Salem Express, the wreck off Safaga. In fact, all the dive sites off Safaga are accessed from here. So you can dive wonderfully in this hotel. And for snorkelers, there are a few turtles living at the jetty.

My conclusion is therefore clear: The hotel is the absolute price-performance winner in the comparison. It is less luxurious than the other hotels I have listed so far. But for the price you can overlook all of these minor flaws.

7. The Breakers Diving and Surfing Lodge

This resort is also a stunner: The luxurious hotel is aimed specifically at divers and surfers. You have a wonderful hotel complex here with a relaxation area on the beach - I have never seen such a beautiful beach anywhere else. The jetty, the mother of all jetties because it is so long, takes you to the Soma Bay house reef, also one of the most beautiful house reefs in the Red Sea and very close to the famous dive site Abu Soma Garden and Tobia Arba - the seven pillars. In the hotel there is a large diving center run by the Orca Dive Clubs - a highly recommended provider with high quality.

My personal opinion: The hotel is a little more expensive, but it's worth it. The relaxation area on the beach is second to none. Unfortunately, I got stomach problems from eating in the Beach Bar - that's why it was "only" 9,0, otherwise it would have been 9,5 points out of 10.

8. Three Corners Equinox Marsa Alam

This hotel near Abu Dabbab Bay has a big joker: a manatee lives right on the house reef, which you can regularly see when you go snorkeling there. Otherwise, the Three Corners Equinox is a rock-solid all-inclusive hotel. The food is good and the facility is very nice and spacious. I really liked the pools. And you get quality diving at an Extra Divers dive center.

From the Equinox you can go to all the great diving spots down south - like Elphinstone Reef. And you can take a trip to Sataya Reef with the dolphins and Abu Dabbab with the manatee. A really great hotel for divers and snorkelers.

My personal opinion: The hotel is upper middle class. You get a rock-solid hotel with a few compromises at a reasonable price. The price-performance ratio is excellent.

My personal ranking: 8,8 out of 10 points – Google Reviews:  4,5 from 5 stars - Review on TripAdvisor

9. Orca Dive Village Safaga

The Orca Dive Village is probably the smallest hotel I have ever stayed in in Egypt. It consists of a few small bungalows and has a beautiful little beach. The resort is within walking distance of Safaga. The special feature of the resort can be described quite simply: a hotel made by divers for divers. And so the largest Orca diving center is located right here at the hotel.

The food is very good and there is even a small beach bar. The accommodation has everything you need if you want to explore the beautiful reefs of Safaga on a diving holiday. There is a deduction for the immediate surroundings - they are not that appealing.

My personal opinion: If you are a diver and just spend every day on the boat, just go to your room to sleep and maybe want to walk to Safaga, Orca Dive Village Safaga is the ideal choice for you. A great resort for real water sports fans.

Addition: The Orca Dive Club in Safaga is moving to the Amarina Resort Safaga - the Orca Dive Village will be closed on December 31.12.2023, XNUMX.

The most beautiful hotels & resorts in Egypt

My conclusion

In Egypt you will find so many beautiful hotels - and the perception of what you consider beautiful is extremely subjective. Then there's the price: if you spend enough money, you're guaranteed to find a hotel that meets all your needs. But because resources are often rather limited, we prefer to look at the price-performance ratio.

Relax Beach at the Fayrouz Plaza Beach Resort – you can relax wonderfully on the beach in the small bay. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer
Relax Beach at the Fayrouz Plaza Beach Resort – you can relax wonderfully on the beach in the small bay. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

For example, I had a perfect price-performance ratio at Mövenpick Soma Bay and Fayrouz. When I calculate the cost of my trip per day, I wonder how the hotel makes money from it. At Mövenpick Soma Bay we only paid 1000 euros per person for three weeks of all inclusive including a flight with Condor and local transfer to the hotel. It couldn't be cheaper - and of course I'd rather let the hotel get away with one or two faux pas.

But to get to the point again: This is just my personal ranking of my favorites. There is one top hotel after another along the entire Egyptian Red Sea coast - and if you look around long enough, you will surely find the right resort for you. Take your time to research. You have read this post. Read a few more. Find out more – and then book the perfect hotel for a holiday that you will remember for a long time.
