Booking a cheap summer holiday is not that easy, we don't have to fool ourselves. Because most people want to go on vacation in June, July and August. Personally, I prefer to travel from autumn to spring and spend the summer at home instead.
But if you still wanted to go on a big summer trip, there are of course a few ways to save a little. If you follow a few tips when trying to book your summer vacation cheaply, you will definitely be able to save a few euros. We have explained our most important summer vacation savings tips for you below.
1. Early bookers benefit from discounts
Anyone who books their summer vacation early can usually benefit from attractive discounts and lower prices. This is because tour operators are often interested in selling holidays as early as possible to make planning easier. In addition, especially during holiday periods, the generally high demand is avoided by booking so early that many people are not yet interested in this particular travel time.
If you book your summer vacation early, you can save a lot of money. As a general rule, you should plan your trip at least three months before departure - generally speaking, the earlier the better.
2. Compare prices and choose high quality providers

Personally, I am a fan of individual trips, where I book all elements of the trip individually and separately. In this way, you may be able to get some exciting bargains and discover travel destinations that are otherwise not so affordable. If you choose a less frequently visited destination during the holiday season, you can also get relatively cheap flights in the best travel time in summer. And cheap accommodation at the holiday destination has still been found.
However, this approach is less recommended for families who spend their well-deserved annual vacation in the summer. In the event of strikes or airline bankruptcies, you are on your own, usually not insured and paying the costs yourself. Unless you take out appropriate insurance. My conclusion
The best way to save money on a summer vacation is not to fly away in the middle of summer and avoid this travel time completely. On the other hand, it's just nice to get out and it doesn't have to be a luxury vacation or an expensive long-distance trip. Some of you will probably laugh and say: What do you dream about at night? We want to travel as a family and rely on vacations and cheap travel destinations. But as you've seen, you can still save money even if you have to travel for the holidays.
We have had good experiences by keeping an eye on our favorite holiday destinations very, very well in advance, i.e. at least two to three months before departure. The closer the departure date got, the more expensive flights and hotels became in our case. That's why our conclusion is very clear: booking a summer holiday cheaply is possible. But you should just keep a few valuable tips in mind:
- Search for, keep an eye on and book package tours, flights and hotels in good time
- Don't forget your luggage and seats on the flight (this will cost a significant surcharge later at the airport)
- Also book the rental car in good time and add all insurance directly (so that no additional insurance has to be booked on site)
- Excursions to the holiday destination can possibly be booked cheaper in advance in Germany
- All inclusive saves families, in particular, many “unpredictable” additional costs
- Factor in the cost of living at your holiday destination
- Don't forget the most important travel insurance (illness, accident, luggage).
And the most important tip comes at the very end: Travel planning can and should be fun. Anyone who sees themselves as a hunter of cheap summer vacations and really enjoys finding the right trip or even putting together an individual trip themselves will certainly get much better travel bargains than someone who is completely listless and forced to try to find a summer vacation for themselves planning a family.
