Ya Nui Beach Phuket – my experiences & tips for the beach

by

Ya Nui Beach on Phuket is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. The bay in the very south is a delight for beach lovers. You can also go swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and SUPing. Sure, it can get pretty crowded – and not all that glitters is gold. This beach also has its strengths and weaknesses. But in my opinion, Ya Nui Beach might be the most beautiful beach on Phuket. What characterizes the bay? I'll give you lots of tips about this beach. An experience report.

The evening sun shines on the water and shines brightly towards me in the most beautiful golden tones and, just before sunset, still hot. While tourists are crowding up at the Windmill Viewpoint on Promthep Cape like every evening, I have my feet buried in the sand, leaning against the stone wall that borders Ya Nui Beach and starting to dream.

Many visitors have already packed their things and left. The calm evening atmosphere captivates me as I look at the small rock that divides the beach in half. I can really switch off on Ya Nui Beach, let my mind wander and just let go. That's why I want this beach on mine Travel Blog dedicate a little declaration of love.

Ya Nui Beach Reviews

Ya Nui Beach is not only one of the most beautiful beaches on Phuket in my subjective opinion - the reviews on Google and TripAdvisor also speak for themselves. The beach has 4,6 out of 5 stars on Google 785 reviews rate it and give it 4,5 out of 5 stars on TripAdvisor 593 reviews (As of November 2023).

Discovered by chance

I discovered Ya Nui Beach on my first trip to Thailand in 2015 when we happened to drive past it on a scooter. I wasn't looking for the most beautiful beaches in Phuket. We just discovered it as we drove past, stopped in the parking lot right by the beach - and fell in love with the small double bay.

Since then I have been to this beach dozens of times. I have seen many other beaches on Phuket. Many are beautiful and worth visiting - such as Freedom Beach or Kata Noi Beach. But there is something very special about Ya Nui Beach. It is informal and unobtrusive. It's more relaxed, even though a lot of people come here.

My very personal Ya Nui Beach experiences & tips

During my second trip to Thailand I stayed in the very south of Phuket Baan Krating Resort lived on the peninsula of the same name. And luckily I had perhaps the most beautiful beach on Phuket right on my doorstep - Ya Nui Beach between Nai Harn and Rawai. That's why I come to this every day Beach I drove there to relax, go snorkeling or take a ride on a kayak or SUP board.

After the Phuket tour we went to the beach

When I was exploring Phuket on my scooter, I would go to the beach in the evening and lie in the sun, go swimming and just relax. Whenever I wanted to take a break for a day, I also spread out on this beach. Here you will find a free parking space where your scooter can park all day long and there is also a restaurant and snack stands if you want to buy a cold drink in between.

The landscape is simply unsurpassed

I think that this beach is simply unsurpassed in terms of scenery. Ya Nui Beach is divided into two bays by an impressive rock formation, with a large island - Koh Man - right off the coast. The water is crystal clear, slightly greenish with a beautiful blue-green color - apart from a small area in the north where a stream flows into the sea. The sediment there is a bit disturbed. The beach's sand is fine and powdery - ideal for short walks on the beach and perfect for sitting in the sun and burying your feet in the sand.

Leisure activities and offers

On Ya Nui Beach you will find a few loungers and parasols. If you need sun protection, bring your own as the shady spots are in high demand. There is a water sports provider where you can rent kayaks and... SUP can borrow. Both are really a must in this bay. The beach looks even more beautiful from the water. You can also paddle your board to the offshore island of Koh Man. There is one of the best snorkeling spots in Phuket.

That's why it's ideal if you have your snorkeling equipment with you. Small, thatched-roof restaurants offer classic Thai dishes – nothing fancy, but perfect for a break with your feet in the sand. The neighboring “Ya Nui Bungalows” also offers charming accommodation with a restaurant and diving opportunities.

Snorkeling, SUP and kayaking at Ya Nui Beach

If you go to Ya Nui Beach, be sure to pack your snorkeling gear because the beach is second to none for snorkeling. If you are a beginner, you can swim directly on the left shoulder of the beach. As an advanced snorkeler, you can snorkel on Koh Man Island, one of the most beautiful snorkeling spots on Phuket. Ya Nui is excellent for relaxed snorkeling, with clear water, lots of rocky, beautifully vegetated areas and colorful fish.

For the more adventurous, the beach offers SUP rentals and kayak rentals to explore the nearby island of Koh Man. I often paddled out here with the SUP and circumnavigated the island of Koh Man. Ya Nui Beach is part of the larger bay of Nai Harn, which overall forms a protected area where you can go SUP or kayak in a very relaxed manner. The distances are also short. Theoretically you can take the SUP to Nai Harn. You have many options for different tours in this bay.

Culinary experience

On Ya Nui Beach you will find several restaurants, all of which are highly recommended. The slightly higher prices are typical for a tourist hot spot like the beach. We particularly recommend the One More Restaurant, which is very well rated and has a typically Thai, varied menu. One More Restaurant, a small but cozy Thai eatery with a friendly atmosphere, is just a short walk from Ya Nui Beach.

Culinary highlights: Visitors particularly praise the Thai specialties such as Tom Yam, Curry and Pad Thai as well as European dishes. An absolute favorite is the Sticky Rice with Mango, which not only tastes delicious but is also a visual highlight. For seafood and salad lovers, the restaurant also offers excellent options.

Price-performance ratio: Prices are more expensive than elsewhere but still affordable, with most meals between 100 and 400 baht per person. This makes One More a great choice for lunch or dinner without breaking the bank.

Friendly staff and open kitchen: Guests appreciate the friendly, attentive staff and the open kitchen, which allows insight into the preparation of the food.

Perfect location: Just a two-minute walk from Yanui Beach, One More Restaurant is easy to access and offers welcome refreshment after a day at the beach.

Additional amenities: The restaurant offers free Wi-Fi and clean toilet facilities for guests.

Reviews: 4,7 out of 5 stars on Google and 4,5 out of 5 stars on TripAdvisor

Beach characteristics

The beach is about 180 meters long and V-shaped, surrounded by palm trees that provide some shade. It used to be more of an insider tip, but today it is well attended, especially during the day. For a shady spot on the beach, we recommend visiting in the morning or bringing a parasol.

Arrival to Ya Nui Beach

Ya Nui is easily accessible; From Kata or Patong, follow the signs to Promthep Cape and Rawai Beach. The road is winding and has elevation changes, so be careful, especially if you are riding a scooter. There are free parking options directly on the beach or on the street that branches off.

My highlights at Yanui Beach

  1. Snorkeling: One of the best snorkeling spots in Phuket right from the beach.
  2. SUP tour or kayak trip around Ko Man: A short kayak trip to the nearby island of Ko Man offers a nice change.
  3. Restaurants behind the beach: Two larger restaurants behind the beach invite you to enjoy local culinary delicacies.

Who is Yanui Beach suitable for?

Beach fans and beach vacationers will find their final opponent in Ya Nui Beach. The beach is not the most remote or lonely, but it's the mix that counts: the landscape design is simply incredibly beautiful. And of course that attracts a lot of visitors. I think true beach connoisseurs quickly realize what a treasure Ya Nui Beach is. The beach is also ideal for outdoor fans who enjoy water sports - especially snorkelers, kayakers and stand-up paddleboarders, but also divers.

Snorkeling is an absolute must here because the offshore island of Koh Man is one of the most beautiful snorkeling spots on Phuket. You can also go diving here, for that I would contact a diving school in nearby Rawai or Nai Harn. Remember to bring your own beach essentials such as towels and an umbrella as there are no rentals on site.

A declaration of love for Ya Nui Beach

My conclusion

I have loved Ya Nui Beach since my first visit in 2015. I have been coming back to this beach ever since. It's not the loneliest beach, it's not an insider tip - and yet the overall package is just right here: the beach is simply beautiful in terms of landscape, is well visited, but not overcrowded.

You can do a variety of activities and find some good and cheap restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The overall package is simply ideal for a perfect beach day on Phuket. If you are spending your vacation in the south of Phuket, a trip to Ya Nui Beach is an absolute must.
