First stop: Playa Blanca and Rubicón Diving
In the heat, I want to get into the water immediately. Under a ledge sit three stingrays and two colorful groupers, which come in our wild presence in wild turmoil. What an exciting first day, I think, as the sun goes down glowing red behind the peaks of the volcanoes.
Diving on Lanzarote with Rubicon Diving: The most beautiful dive sites in the south of the Canary Islands
For the second day instructor Chris has considered a delicacy: "We drive to the Lighthouse," says the native Frankfurter. The dive has it all and is not for the gentle mind! Descent in open water into deep blue up to 40 meters. "Go with the flow," I think and let myself sink into the depths. After over 20 meters of free fall you can see the reef shimmer, and when we reach the wall, I'm relieved. The rest of the dive is incredibly relaxed. We start from 40 meters slowly along the reef. A lot of small fish can be found here. And in a cave lives a single Zacki, which is as big as the usual three of its kind!

On Lanzarote on a diving vacation: At the Playa Chica in the Cathedral of the Grouper
After the grandiose first days in the south in the channel between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura that is now Canary Diver mecca Puerto del Carmen on the program. Basic owner Georg Reichelmann welcomes me here at the marina at Iceland Watersports, his "home". The tour leads us left shoulder over the sand field to the reef roof, from where we descend along the steep wall. The dives in Puerto del Carmen are characterized mainly by lots of fish, lava formations and many smaller caves, each of which holds one or the other surprise. The first dive with George takes me to the cathedral, a huge cave that is probably one of the most popular spots in the Canary Islands. On the second tour I start with Georg's partner Gertraud to the Cueva de las Gambas, the cave of the dance shrimp. We glide deep into the cave, followed by a few curious groupers, and turn on the lights far in the grotto. The walls in the rock are full of terrific dance shrimp! And once the light is on, the Zackis hunt for the small crustaceans.
In the Village of the Nudists: With Aquatis Diving in Charco del Palo
The next day we drive to the northeast: I drive with Georg von Grundherr from the Aquatis Dive Center in Costa Teguise to the village of Charco del Palo. The village is located on a rocky stretch of coast and has a slippery secret: all residents and visitors in Charco del Palo are naked. The place is a nudist mecca - especially for older tourists. Tender diver divers are advised not to let the gaze wander too much, because everywhere "surprises" lurk for the eyes. What are these surprises?
We assemble our equipment directly at the parking lot near a small, easily walkable section of rock at the lower end of which is a natural pool. Descend over the trail into the water start two wonderful dives: The light plays under the surface stage the overgrown lava rocks and fish in the most beautiful colors.
