The most important facts about Scharbeutz

Scharbeutz can now look back on almost 200 years of history as a seaside resort in the Bay of Lübeck on the Baltic Sea coast and as a holiday resort. The place name Scharbeutz is most likely based on the Slavic village of Scorbuze or Schoreboce. Over 1000 years have passed since the town was founded. From 1837 onwards tourism took hold and the first holidaymakers came to Scharbeutz.

Today the small town is developing rapidly. A number of new holiday accommodations are being built in the village. New development areas with single-family homes are being built around the center. This means that the number of permanent residents is also growing - many young families in particular are drawn to Scharbeutz. The place is currently experiencing lively and rapid change. The number of overnight stays by holidaymakers increases year after year. In addition, new leisure activities are emerging.

However, success also has its downsides: tourism creates environmental problems and the transport infrastructure groans under the onslaught. In addition, the sales prices and rental prices of real estate are also increasing at a rapid pace, which is becoming a problem especially for some long-established and low-income residents.

Prominent visitors in Scharbeutz

Probably the most prominent visit of Scharbeutz is Albert Einstein. He has between 1927 and 1929 each Summer vacation in Scharbeutz for several weeks. Already in the year 1852 - shortly after the place was opened touristically - the Grand Duke Paul Friedrich August of Oldenburg spent the vacation in Scharbeutz with Queen Amalie Maria of Greece and his entire court. He also liked it so well in the Bay of Lübeck that he returned several times.

Even today, Scharbeutz is often targeted by camera crews who are filming in the city - most recently a series was shot by the documentary soap shopping queen with fashion designer and presenter Guido Maria Kretschmer in Scharbeutz. Especially since the construction of the Bayside Hotel in the center of the village gets more and more media presence. In the neighboring Timmendorfer Strand the actor Till Schweiger has opened a hotel. Since then he is sighted more often in the Bay of Lübeck.

Along with Timmendorfer Strand, Scharbeutz is one of the most popular holiday resorts

My conclusion

Scharbeutz not only belongs to Timmendorfer Strand as one of the most important holiday destinations in the Bay of Lübeck and one of the most popular destinations along the German Baltic Sea coast. The town now looks back on a centuries-old tradition as a seaside resort and is developing dynamically, especially in recent years. Within the town, many new construction projects with apartments. On the other hand, the place is also expected to have new residents who can live in the numerous development areas. The number of overnight stays of holidaymakers has steadily increased in recent years.

Due to its direct location in the southwestern end of the Baltic Sea coast and easy access to the transport network, the village is a perfect place for summer holidays. Meanwhile, Scharbeutz is also developing more and more into a year-round destination, where there are attractive leisure activities for all twelve months. Scharbeutz is always worth a visit.
