The joy was great when the headphone manufacturer Bose announced its new high-end headphones in April or May. Now the wait has finally come to an end and the new earphones have recently arrived. We look forward to a detailed Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 test of the new Gadgets in sports, in everyday life and above all when traveling and on vacation.

The expectations of the new headphones are high because the alternative model Bose QC 35 II (test) was really good and always served us well at home at the desk and especially when traveling - especially on the plane. So is it worth switching to the NCH 700? We have tested the new high-end headphones extensively for you and in this article we discuss the pros and cons with the strengths and weaknesses of the device.

Our first impression of the Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700

As a true technology fan, there are some products that I'm waiting for as excitedly as a little boy is waiting for Santa Claus. These include new sports watches, the latest Holiday gadgets And as a music fan who listens to music while traveling and all day working at the desk, he also has high-quality new headphones. For headphones, I'm mainly interested in four aspects:

  • How good is the sound of the headphones?
  • How strong is Active Noise Canceling?
  • How is the wearing comfort of the headphones ordered?
  • How good is the connectivity (via Bluetooth and NFC) with my technical devices?

I don't want to write too euphorically about the Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700, because these Headphones certainly have their weaknesses. But honestly, they took my heart by storm straight out of the box. The over-ear headphones come in a stylish bag that is slightly thinner and wider than the QC 35 II. Unpacked and off you go:

As soon as you put them on, you have a completely new experience: the headphones automatically and continuously adjust to the right size. They could also be connected to mine within a few seconds at the push of a button iPhone and iPad Pro connect. I had already downloaded the new Bose Music app in advance, with which I also paired the headphones directly.

For friends of the current USB C connection a treat - the headphone now has the modern connection and can be charged, for example, with the Mac computer charging cable.

I couldn't wait to test the sound of the Bose Noise Canceling Headphone 700. Because the conventional music services like Spotify or Apple Music doesn't offer really high-quality high-res or HD sound in the standard version, so I did an HD sound test on the Internet as an initial spark for my new headphones.

Two real, high-performance clams on the beach: the BOSE NCH 700's ear cups have been given a completely new design.
Two real, high-performance clams on the beach: the BOSE NCH 700's ear cups have been given a completely new design.

And that actually says everything about the sound quality of the new Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700: The sound of the new over-ears is so razor-sharp, balanced and authentic that it almost hurts. The sound appears clearer than reality. In the audio test, the headphones can reproduce all frequency ranges cleanly and with high quality. Our first impression is therefore clear: The Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 are clearly in the top league of current headphones.

This is how the Noise Canceling Headphones 700 is testing itself

For a first test in the Vacation and in everyday life I took a short walk on the beach with the Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700. The new headphones and the unusual new design are immediately noticeable. The headphones seem to be familiar to many people who are now seeing them live for the first time. And when used for the first time on the beach, the headphones really show what they can do.

Whether Rachmaninow, Rolling Stones or 187 street gang: the Bose NCH 700 makes the beach walk a joy for the ears.
Whether Rachmaninow, Rolling Stones or 187 street gang: The Bose NCH 700 makes the walk on the beach a joy for the ears.

1. Noise canceling on the Bose NCH 700 in the test

Active Noise Reduction (ANC) eliminates noise above 80 percent. If you go through the different levels of noise suppression, you notice the huge difference in the sound of the waves, the moans of the gulls and children playing. If you turn on the highest level, you hear almost nothing. That alone makes the headphones perfect for the next vacation. You do not need to hear any music with the headphones, then you are already enjoying it.

2. Calls deliver excellent voice quality - even for the opposite

Then I'll try a test call. So far I've always had mine Apple AirPods Pro Used to make phone calls, but never the Bose QC35. My test caller is thrilled with the sound quality of the call and is surprised that background noise can no longer be heard. Just as the manufacturer announced, the four integrated microphones manage to completely block out ambient noise. And I don’t need to say much more about listening to music on the beach at this point. Once the outside world has been blocked out, you can easily turn on your favorite playlist, walk along the beach and immerse yourself in the most beautiful thoughts accompanied by the music or simply switch off completely.

3. Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 in sports

After our little walk on the beach we went straight to test number 2 the next day. When jogging on the beach with the Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700, two minor problems actually become apparent. It may have partly been due to my somewhat clumsy running style. On the one hand, the earphones click slightly. However, the clicking could be eliminated by moving the bracket slightly. However, it always came back when the hanger slipped a little. On the other hand, the Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 also have the typical problem of all current over-ear headphones: They are simply not breathable at all. You sweat like crazy under the large ear cups.

But that is the case with all current models. I suppose it's because you have the choice between high quality (passive or active) noise canceling or just breathability. As soon as a headset is breathable, the noise cancellation is probably not as high quality. While out jogging outdoors, the Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 are already doing well, but when running on the treadmill or other sports we can do in the gym, headphones are unbeatable. They completely blank out all the loud noises in the fitness center.

Strengths and weaknesses of the Bose NCH 700

In our review, the Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 have shown many strengths and weaknesses. I have to say in advance that the strengths have clearly outweighed and we are thrilled with new NCH 700, which are not the successor of the QC35, mind you, but were launched in parallel to the market. The QuietComfort 35 should get its own successor at a later date - maybe a QC45?

The hanger is made of stainless steel and has a plastic padding: this is practical for sports, but has a lower quality than the combination of fabric and leather in the QC35 (II).
The hanger is made of stainless steel and has a plastic padding: this is practical for sports, but has a lower quality than the combination of fabric and leather in the QC35 (II).

The strengths of the NCH 700 clearly lie in the outstanding sound, which can clearly be classified in the upper class of headphones. The noise cancellation of the 700 headphones seems to us to be a lot better than the QC35 - and is probably one of the best on the market. The headphones are also surprisingly comfortable to wear, even though the minimalist design suggested the opposite. The over-ears adapt continuously to the shape of your head and therefore always ensure the perfect fit.

The touch operation via the earpiece is practical and works perfectly right from the start once you have mastered the gestures. This feature didn't impress us, as it's now more of a standard feature. The headphones are high quality thanks to the materials used and yet are light at the same time. We also like the fact that I can charge the new headphones via USB C in a modern way. Thanks to this new gadget, we have now converted almost all of our devices to the USB C interface.

The size of the headset automatically adjusts to the shape of the head as the ears move along the frame.
The size of the headset automatically adjusts to the shape of the head as the ears move along the frame.

However, the new headphone also has its weaknesses. Partly you hear a slight noise, but varies depending on the app used and played music varies. After a long period of non-use, there is also a loud noise, partly and irregularly. At the Jog There was sometimes a slight rattling, depending on your running style and the fit of the headphones.

The materials of the Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 are very high quality, but also make a delicate impression. We are curious to see how quickly scratches and the like occur on the surfaces. The new Bose AR platform is still in development and only with time will there be useful content for it. However, after our detailed sound check, we are very excited to see what sound experience possible future content can offer on this platform. Overall, the advantages of the headphones far outweigh the disadvantages and we are looking forward to many relaxing hours with these great gadgets.

Power

  • The sound of the Bose Noise Canceling Headphone 700 is outstanding
  • the noise cancellation of the headphones is one of the best on the market
  • In direct comparison, the wearing comfort of the NCH 700 is significantly higher than that of the QC35
  • The new design takes a bit of getting used to, but makes other models look pretty old in comparison
  • the materials are high quality and at the same time light
  • significantly improved connectivity compared to the QC35 - smooth connection with current Apple Products
  • The new Bose Music app is simple, clear and offers the possibility of quick firmware updates of the Bose Noise Canceling Headphone 700

weaknesses

  • occasionally there is light noise, which will probably be eliminated on the software side
  • a slight clack while jogging
  • and the headphones are very sensitive and make a very scratch-prone impression
  • already after the first days there are some signs of wear on the obviously very sensitive ear cushions
  • USB C to USB A cable instead of USB C to USB C included
  • some features like Bose AR are still in development and are still in their infancy
  • the battery can not be replaced

The Bose headphones 700 have received many bad reviews - right?

The Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 have received a relatively large number of bad reviews on the Internet. At least for me this is relatively incomprehensible, but it certainly also depends on the equipment used with the headphones. The interaction between our smartphone, tablet computer and laptop - all from the manufacturer Apple - with the new over-ears worked perfectly. In part, the problems with headphones seem to me to be due to a lack of technical understanding of the users. Some complained about the battery performance. This varies depending on how intensively and loudly you use the headphones. The battery life is very good. Bose conveniently specifies the remaining time in hours and no longer in percent.

It was also often criticized that you need a Bose account to set up the headphones in the Bose music app. This is now common practice for all major manufacturers of electronic products - and nothing special at all. An account is set up in just one minute and can be used across all devices. It was also criticized that you can only use the full functionality of the headphones if you download the Bose app.

I'm wondering how you can carry out the various settings or firmware updates quickly and directly via your smartphone if you don't have such an app available. You would then have to connect the headphones to the computer, which would be much more complicated. In this respect, Bose has solved this perfectly. Accordingly, I cannot understand the negative reviews about the product at all. Most of these could be quickly refuted.

Compared to the QC35 the design of the Bose headphone 700 looks fresh and modern - depending on the perspective, however, it takes some getting used to.

Some alternatives to the NCH 700

The new Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 are clearly our over-ear headphones of choice - probably for the next one or two years. But as is often the case, other mothers also have beautiful daughters. One of the NCH 700's biggest competitors also comes from the manufacturer. The Bose QC 35 II is definitely a good alternative to the new high-end model. I'm also a big fan of the AirPods Max from Apple, which I bought two years after the NCH 700.

If you need a little less of everything - a little less sound quality, a little less noise reduction, less fast connectivity and range of the Bluetooth and a little less comfort when making calls via the headphones, you can also use this significantly cheaper product. There are also attractive over-ear headphones in the price range from manufacturers such as Bang & Olufsen B&O Beoplay H9, the Sennheiser PXC 550 headphones (noise-cancelling wireless) and Bowers & Wilkins PX wireless headphones. Many of these models also play in the top league of wireless over-ear headphones with active noise canceling.

Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 Test – Headphones seal your hearing

My conclusion

Finally, our test result is very clear: The new Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 are an absolute purchase and will be one of our essentials from now on travel gear. After reading the bad reviews, I was unsure whether these headphones were worth the money or whether I should stick with my Bose QC35 II for a while. The NCH 700 then dispelled all doubts and took my heart as a music lover by storm.

In the end, this new purchase created a new problem for travel and vacation, sports and everyday life. I am no longer at all satisfied with the music streaming service I currently use and am now looking for a music service that also enables high quality music. This is the only way to really make the most of the incredible sound of these great over-ear headphones.
