The Garmin quatix 6 is an ambitious new outdoor sports watch for anyone who wants to plunge headfirst into adventure. The highlight is the integrated solar charging lens, which uses solar energy to extend the battery life of the smartwatch. We took a closer look at the Garmin quatix 6 in the test.

The current quatix 6 series has been on the market for a while. With the Garmin quatix 6, there is also a top model that has been supplemented with a solar function that allows the smartwatch to be charged using solar energy. In this way, the battery life can be extended. The quatix 6 is the current high-end model for maritime athletes and is basically a maritime version of the current one Garmin fenix 6 (Review) in the solar version. It differs from the 6X Pro primarily in that it is equipped with special functions for boats, anglers, cruise fans and sailors.
Thanks to the extended battery life, water sports enthusiasts can pursue their hobby even more carefree. But it would be a real shame if the Garmin quatix 6X Solar were only reserved for sailors and boat fans. The elegant sports watch is an excellent companion for numerous activities and is also suitable as an outdoor watch Watch for adventurers.
Of course, it is also ideal for anyone who likes to pass the time with stand up paddling. Also many other sports like Jog, kayaking, canoeing, skiing and golfing are of course supported by the fitness watch. What features characterize the Garmin quatix 6X Solar? We have put together the most important information about the top smartwatch for you.

What can the Garmin quatix 6X Solar do in the test – and who is it suitable for?
The Garmin quatix 6X Solar is an all-rounder that is not only suitable for sailors as a useful companion for sports and as a holiday gadget. The smartwatch is a useful outdoor sports watch that can be used for a variety of purposes. Particular attention is paid to the solar function in this model, which supplies the timepiece with additional energy.
The battery life can be extended for up to three days if the watch gets enough sun. Users can also manually ensure more juice using the Garmin quatix 6X Solar's new power manager: You can detect sensors that use a lot of power and turn them off manually as desired. For many manufacturers, such a manual procedure is unthinkable.
Special features for sailors
For the first time, the Garmin quatix 6X offers the option of displaying BlueChart g3 nautical charts, which combine Garmin and Navionics data, on the display and setting waypoints. In an appropriate combination with the manufacturer's marine electronics, NMEA 2000 boat data, which includes speed, water depth and temperature as well as wind data, is displayed directly on the smartwatch on the wrist.
Autopilots that are compatible can also be operated directly via the multifunctional sports watch. In addition, selecting the right music on board is very easy using the corresponding pre-installed app. Skippers, anglers and sailors can rely on numerous useful functions that support them in their sport. There is also an emergency button that signals “man overboard” and can call for help in an emergency.
Numerous functions of smartwatches and fitness watches combined
The smartwatch doesn't just cut a fine figure for water sports enthusiasts. The typical smartwatch functions are available to users in everyday life: The Garmin quatix 6X comes with functions such as the contactless payment system Garmin Pay and a generous music storage that holds up to 2.000 MP3s. In addition, appropriate Bluetooth headphones such as the Apple AirPods Pro (test) and the Bang&Olufsen H9 3rd generation (test) can be paired directly with the watch. Music streaming on the watch can take place via the providers Spotify, Amazon Music or Deezer.
Typical smartwatch functions such as displaying calls and messages are also available. Pre-installed maps are also available for activities on land. Heart rate measurement on the wrist is already standard and can also be used underwater with the Garmin quatix 6X. However, the function of the Pulse Ox blood oxygen saturation sensor is still relatively new.
From there, the quatix measures the user's well-being, stress level and sleep quality. With the Garmin quatix 6X (Solar), users not only get the marine functions, but also all the features that characterize the top model fenix 6X Pro.

Garmin quatix 6 review - strengths and weaknesses
The Garmin quatix 6 is not only a maritime version of the successful fenix 6, it also offers an excellent combination of design, high-quality materials and a multitude of useful functions. Although it is particularly aimed at sailors and water sports enthusiasts, it is also interesting for sports enthusiasts and outdoor fans.
Strengths of the Garmin quatix 6
The quatix 6 impresses above all with its attractive design and the use of high-quality materials such as a titanium bezel. The comfortable silicone wristband ensures optimal wearing comfort and adapts perfectly to the wrist. The smartwatch is suitable for a variety of sports such as running, cycling, swimming, hiking or stand up paddling - and is therefore much more than just a watch for water sports enthusiasts. A special highlight of the quatix 6 is the easy-to-read display, which offers excellent readability even in strong sunlight - a plus point that only a few current sports watches can boast. As a maritime-oriented smartwatch, the quatix 6 is almost unrivaled for sailors and underlines their passion for the sea.
Weaknesses of the Garmin quatix 6
The weaknesses of the quatix 6 are comparatively small. A shortcoming is the lack of a touchscreen and the use of a conventional display instead of an AMOLED or Super AMOLED. In addition, the clock's tones and alarms are rather unspectacular and don't sound very appealing. Another point of criticism is the high price of some models, which can cost more than 1.000 euros. However, in these cases, buyers get a high-quality titanium smartwatch with a solar charging lens that significantly extends the battery life.
Overall, the Garmin quatix 6 is an impressive sports smartwatch that convinces despite small weaknesses. The special maritime features and the successful design make them a worthwhile investment for sailors, water sports enthusiasts and outdoor fans alike.
Strengths of the Garmin quatix 6
- The Garmin quatix 6 features durable, high-quality materials in a striking outdoor design, including a Gorilla Glass 3 watch glass and stainless steel bezel.
- The special maritime orientation of the watch offers special functions for many water sports enthusiasts and is one of the few smartwatches that is a declaration of love for the sea.
- The comfortable silicone strap is very comfortable to wear, and the material is not too firm and not too soft.
- The display is very easy to read even in strong sunlight and is one of the best on the market.
- The watch has a large internal memory of 32 GB.
- There are many sports programs including running, cycling, swimming, hiking and stand up paddling, making the watch versatile.
Weaknesses of the Garmin quatix 6
- The Garmin quatix 6 does not have a touchscreen, so it is only operated using buttons. However, some athletes prefer this during training.
- The display is not yet an OLED or AMOLED display.
- The sounds of the clock can take some getting used to.
- The price of the different models can sometimes be quite high.

Garmin quatix 6 review – outdoor sports watch for sailors and all adventurers?
My detailed conclusion
The Garmin quatix 6X Solar is not only an excellent watch for sailors, but also suitable for all kinds of sports. In particular, all activities that take place on or in the water can be wonderfully monitored by the smartwatch with the help of the quatix. From a technological perspective, the sports watch is absolutely state of the art and its specifications are likely to remain current for some time to come.
Compared to the usual Garmin quatix 6X, the Solar model is characterized by the corresponding solar lens, so that the battery life is extended accordingly. However, it is difficult to give an indication in hours because the battery life usually depends on the intensity of use and, in the case of this model, also on the sunlight. The bottom line, however, is that modern and advanced technology should prove its worth and enable athletes to pursue their hobby for longer without having to recharge the watch. In this respect, the Garmin quatix 6X Solar seems to be an all-round successful outdoor smartwatch that is suitable for many areas of use and should particularly make sailors happy.
An alternative is the manufacturer's fenix series, which has similar properties and can be described as a standard model for various activities. Instead of the fenix, choosing the quatix could be seen as a statement of love for marine activities and for everyone - except sailors - is primarily a question of personal taste.
The Garmin quatix 6 was kindly provided by the manufacturer Garmin for the test. I reserve the right to test tested products extensively and for weaknesses in order to give readers a clear and comprehensive picture of the product. In addition, I give my own clear opinion on each tested smartwatch.
