The Suunto 9 Peak is different – you can tell that straight away. It looks different than all other Suunto smartwatches and the watches from other manufacturers also look a little old-fashioned next to this futuristic designer watch. Beautiful thing, is my first thought, I would like to wear it. It looks great visually. I'm a big fan of minimalist, timeless design - it has to be said. The manufacturer calls its high-end smartwatch a prestige watch. The model was recognized for its design by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. That seems prestigious to me.
But what is hidden behind the shiny – or elegantly matt – external appearance? By the way, the model is also available in a high-end titanium version with a link bracelet, which is probably the manufacturer's absolute top model. In my Suunto 9 Peak test, I took a close look at the smartwatch. And it can also be compared well with the previous model – the Suunto 9 Baro, which I tested a few years ago.

Suunto 9 Peak - What the manufacturer says about the sports watch
I think that if you want to assess whether an outdoor smartwatch is successful or not, you should look at what the manufacturer promises - and compare that with reality. If both agree, the sports smartwatch is a success. Suunto describes the Suunto 9 Peak as a prestige watch among fully equipped GPS sports watches, which particularly scores with its outstanding battery life and longevity. It should prove itself and support users even under the most demanding conditions. According to the manufacturer, it is the thinnest and most robust watch Suunto has ever made.
When we design a new watch, we first assess the desired user experience and then combine this with our latest technology developments. We've found that while many people want all the features of Suunto 9 Baro in a smaller, more streamlined form factor, without compromising battery life or features. Our development team of designers and engineers worked closely together to meet this need and the answer is the Suunto 9 Peak. We're proud of our 85-year tradition of creating products for adventure and continuing it with this watch with a new minimalist Nordic design.

Suunto 9 Peak Test - my experiences with the outdoor smartwatch
My Suunto 9 Peak experiences
My Suunto 9 Peak experiences have been consistently positive. I am very impressed by the elegant design of the smartwatch and have to say that the outdoor smartwatch particularly stands out in this context.
1. Design
The design of the Suunto 9 Peak is unusual, timeless, minimalist and refreshingly different. I like the look of the watch and have to say that this would be the main reason for me to buy this smartwatch. While many sports watches are packed to the brim with functions and bells and whistles, looks are obviously all too often neglected. Not so with the Suunto 9 Peak, which combines design with functionality.
2. Display
The Suunto 9 Peak has an LED matrix display, the big advantage of which is that it is easy to read even in strong sunlight. Operation via the touchscreen is smooth. I would still generally prefer an AMOLED display.
3. Battery life
While many manufacturers' smartwatches barely last a day, the Suunto 9 Peak's battery lasts so long that I sometimes forget when I last charged it. This is really pleasant. You have to take off your outdoor smartwatch much less often.
4. Recording health data and fitness data
My Suunto 9 Peak experience is that vital sign measurements such as heart rate are very precise and can therefore be used well to get an overview of your current fitness. The situation is similar with the measured values such as distance, number of steps, altitude and cadence. With this watch you get the impression that it first records very precise measurements and then evaluates them accordingly for users, so that the wearer gets real added value from using it.
Anyone who has ever been out in nature in the dark knows that in some situations it is better to be home before dark. The Suunto 9 Peak keeps track of everything and lets you know when it's time to go back. I am also very impressed with the heat maps. I've often looked through the heat maps in the Suunto app on my iPhone and discovered new ways to run that I hadn't noticed before. A great function to see where other athletes are moving.
Suunto 9 Peak Test - For whom is the outdoor smartwatch suitable?
The Suunto 9 Peak is clearly the right choice for active people and all outdoor fans. Jogging, cycling, swimming and other sports such as Nordic walking, kayaking, stand-up paddling or similar are part of the smartwatch's absolute standard repertoire. To really challenge the multisport watch, you have to go off-road and plunge headfirst into the adventure.
Whether you're an experienced mountaineer, mountain biker or weekend hiker, Suunto 9 Peak is a GPS watch designed for adventurers. It's packed with features tailored to those who enjoy spending time in the great outdoors.

Strengths and weaknesses of the Suunto 9 Peak
The greatest strength of the Suunto 9 Peak is the combination of design and functionality, which is particularly successful in this model and makes the outdoor smartwatch very attractive. What is always particularly important to me is that a sports watch delivers very precise measurements without any significant deviations.
The biggest weakness of the Suunto 9 Peak is the LED matrix display. I would have liked an AMOLED here. At the same time, however, the LED display is also a strength because it consumes little energy and is perfectly readable even in sunlight. Below I have listed all the strengths and weaknesses of the Suunto 9 Peak for you.
Power
- Elegant, minimalist design and high-quality materials make the Suunto 9 Peak an eye-catcher on the wrist.
- Super light and compact, you hardly feel the watch when you wear it.
- High-precision heart rate measurement for an accurate record of fitness data.
- Simple and intuitive operation with touchscreen and buttons for smooth navigation.
- The LED matrix display is easy to read at all times - even in bright sunlight, which is particularly helpful for outdoor activities.
- Numerous sports modes suitable for a variety of activities, including more exotic sports such as kayaking or stand up paddling.
- Various very helpful map modes that make navigation easier and allow you to create your own routes.
- Very long battery life, sufficient for multi-day outdoor activities.
- Suunto app with many functions for comprehensive analysis and evaluation of fitness data.
- Very easy setup, also suitable for the less technically savvy
- Tracking of fat and carbohydrate burning, which is helpful for targeted fitness improvement
- Compatibility with many apps, which makes it easier to use and integrate with existing systems
weaknesses
- Comparatively small 1,2-inch LED matrix display without AMOLED technology, which cannot keep up with other models in terms of color intensity and contrast.
Suunto 9 Peak features
The Suunto 9 Peak is packed with sports watch features designed to make your time outdoors more enjoyable in all kinds of activities and sports. From built-in topographic maps to real-time weather updates, this watch has everything you need to make the most of your time in the great outdoors. The Suunto 9 Peak features a display designed to be easy to read in all conditions. Whether you're hiking in bright sunlight, swimming in the sea, or looking at your map in the middle of the night, Suunto 9 Peak's display ensures you can always see your data. So if you're looking for a GPS multisport watch with a display that won't let you down, the Suunto 9 Peak could be the perfect choice for you. However, I have to point out again that the outdoor smartwatch does not have an AMOLED display. This saves energy and enables long battery life.

Suunto 9 Peak has a variety of sport modes - more than 80 in total - designed to help you get the most out of your time outdoors and exercise. Whether you're hiking, cycling or running, Suunto 9 Peak has a sport mode to suit your needs.

This allows you to explore unknown routes and find your way back to your next adventure in time. No matter what outdoor activity you prefer, the Suunto 9 Peak is sure to have a sport mode that suits you perfectly.
3. Suunto 9 Peak heart rate monitor
The Suunto 9 Peak has a built-in heart rate monitor to help you stay healthy and fit. Whether you want to track your heart rate during exercise or monitor recovery after a race, Suunto 9 Peak's heart rate monitor will prove accurate and useful. If you're looking for an accurate GPS watch with a built-in heart rate monitor, the Suunto 9 Peak could be the perfect choice for you.
4. Suunto 9 Peak battery life
One of the most impressive features of the Suunto 9 Peak is its battery life. With a battery life of up to seven days, you can go on adventures without having to recharge the battery in between. And as if that wasn't enough, the Suunto 9 Peak also has a built-in "Power Saver" mode - generally different energy saving modes - that extend battery life even further. The battery life of the Suunto 9 Peak is absolutely competitive among current outdoor smartwatch models.
5. Suunto 9 Peak cards
Another useful feature of the Suunto 9 Peak is the built-in topographic maps. Whether you're planning a hike, mountain biking or just want to explore the area, Suunto 9 Peak's maps make sure you always know where you are and how to get to your desired destination.
And if that wasn't enough, the Suunto 9 Peak also has a “Breadcrumb Trail” feature that allows you to retrace your steps and find your way back to your starting point. So if you're looking for a GPS watch with easy-to-use and reliable maps, the Suunto 9 Peak could be the perfect choice for you.
