The big question we asked ourselves before the initial installation was very simple: How easy would the Smartfrog IP camera be to install and how reliably would it do its job in our home afterwards? The cam is arguably one of the most advanced home surveillance systems - and thanks to the quick start guide on the box, you can get it connected in just a minute.

The housing can be quickly placed on a practical stand, which allows it to be optimally aligned in the room. This means you always have the desired angle to keep an eye on the room. The security system not only has image transmission, but can also record sounds and play voice messages to contact people in the room.

And with the free app, which can be downloaded to your smartphone for iOS and Android, the Smartfrog IP camera can be connected to the WiFi within a few minutes and is ready to use straight away. From now on, the camera sends a live image to your smartphone, smartwatch, tablet and laptop. The setup process right up to the first live images from the apartment worked smoothly in our test. We were able to go through the installation process within a few minutes and get the entire monitoring system ready to go. After setting it up, we tested the Smartfrog IP surveillance camera over several weeks. In the beginning, we often went to the clear settings menu to continually adjust the camera's functions. The sensitivity to noise and movement was too high, so we set it to the lowest value. As the lighting conditions in the apartment changed, we often received messages on our smartphone that movements or noises were being registered. The geofence function, in which the alarms are activated as soon as you leave the room, only worked properly after you allowed the app to update in the background on the smartphone.

Nevertheless, the camera system has proven itself from the first minute. An IP cam is particularly recommended for people who travel a lot. My conclusion

After a meanwhile two-month test, our conclusion is clear: the Smartfrog WLAN HD IP Security Camera is set up in a few minutes and does what it should: It delivers a stable video image that can be easily accessed from anywhere via the smartphone. Accordingly, we can recommend the purchase of this IP surveillance camera without reservation.

In a detailed settings menu you can choose from a variety of additional options. One can choose which notifications and alerts are sent. The sensitivity for detecting noises and movements can be adjusted. The video resolution can also be changed – and that’s a good thing. Because we have set the resolution to the highest level - what is transmitted is a really pleasantly sharp image that shows the apartment in great detail. After about 14 days, we received a message from our internet service provider that the monthly 300 GB of the fair use automatic on our connection had been used up.

“Monthly usage in GBs depends on a number of factors and variables. For example, the number of cameras used for recording is only part of the equation. We recommend a WLAN service with unlimited data volume. We ran several tests and determined the average data usage for our camera based on the quality of the stream and continuous usage over a month (720 hours).
