Pacsafe Venturesafe X40 review – traveling in Thailand with the anti-theft backpack

Thailand is certainly not the least secure Destinationwhere you can be on the go. Nevertheless, there are numerous situations in which an anti-theft backpack can be extremely useful. When I was recently in three weeks Southeast Asia I was carrying an anti-theft backpack for the first time. This is the Pacsafe Venturesafe X40, which I tested extensively during the trip. I had the anti-theft backpack with me practically all the time, during the flight as hand luggage and on site as a practical carrying bag for all activities and excursions.

My first impression was clear: The Pacsafe Venturesafe X40 is extremely well made and made of high-quality materials. The back is comfortably padded and the shoulder straps have a comfortable, ergonomic shape. Although the backpack With its 40 liter capacity and the internal steel frame it is very large, it is relatively easy to carry. I took him with me to Thailand Beach took it, rode a scooter with it, used it as a rain cover and even as a launch pad for my drone. He was my loyal companion during the three weeks.

As far as the basic backpack functions are concerned, the Pacsafe Venturesafe X40 did extremely well right from the start. The compartments are large and spacious. There are many smaller pockets that can be closed with a zipper, so that everything has its place in the backpack. On the other hand, there is a lot of space and I had to rummage around relatively often to find something that I no longer knew where I had put it. The most important items can be put in a compartment on the waist belt - that was my most important locker on the trip.

The Pacsafe Venturesafe X40 had to go through everything on the last trip and was mainly exposed to water and sand, sun and heat. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

It is of course practical that you can attach the backpack anywhere with an optional steel cable - I chained it to a palm tree on the beach, for example. And also in Hotel You can easily connect it anywhere - and lock it with optional locks so that you can store valuables in the hotel room if there is no safe.

When strolling through areas with lots of people, you can lock the compartments and not have to worry about a thief cutting your shoulder straps with a box cutter or scissors on the Pacsafe Venturesafe X40. The entire outer shell is cut-resistant. The material also blocks RFID readers. The bottom line is that the anti-theft backpack stood out on my trip Phuket beaten incredibly well and surprised me positively.

FAQs Pacsafe – the most important questions and answers

What is an anti-theft backpack?

An anti-theft backpack is a backpack that is made of tear-resistant and cut-resistant materials. So it cannot be stolen by thieves by cutting the shoulder straps and then running away with the backpack. In addition, many models offer additional protective functions such as an RFID blocker and lockable zippers.

Who is an anti-theft backpack suitable for?

An anti-theft backpack is suitable for anyone who wants to buy a new backpack. On the one hand, it is of course suitable for travelers who want to explore a foreign country on vacation. On the other hand, the anti-theft backpack is also suitable at home, for example if you want to leave valuables in the car. Then you can connect the backpack in the car - which makes it difficult for potential thieves to take it with them.

Which anti-theft bags are best for a laptop?

An anti-theft backpack is best for a laptop. In many backpack models, the computer in the anti-theft backpack can be easily stowed and transported in a separate compartment. In addition, most models can be locked so that the notebook cannot simply be taken out of the pocket.

Strengths and weaknesses of the Pacsafe Venturesafe X40 in the test

Our Pacsafe Venturesafe X40 test showed that the strengths of the theft-proof backpack clearly outweigh the weaknesses. The backpack is a sophisticated and well thought-out product that supported me well on my trip to Thailand. In retrospect, I have to say that I would have been happy to have had an anti-theft backpack on previous trips.

The main strengths of the Pacsafe Venturesafe include high-quality workmanship, advanced materials and numerous, spacious compartments. The backpack is also ergonomically shaped and sits very comfortably on the back. It is very stable and can withstand difficult weather conditions such as rain and heat. In addition to the numerous locking options, the integrated RFID blocker is worth highlighting.

One of the most important weaknesses of the product is the somewhat deep and confusing structure of the individual compartments. However, you can counteract this with an adjustable insert, which in turn takes up a lot of space. What bothered me about the backpack was that the front compartment cannot be locked. In order to do this, you have to fix the zipper on the backpack in a somewhat awkward and improvised way, so that a potential thief cannot open this compartment.

If you leave this compartment open, it would be an opportunity for the thief to get into the backpack. And there again one could not say for sure whether the inner material behind the front compartment is also cut-resistant. That seems to me to be the weak point if you want to use the backpack as a portable safe. Overall, however, the strengths of the Pacsafe Venturesafe X40 anti-theft backpack far outweigh the weaknesses.

Power

  • high quality
  • advanced materials
  • many spacious compartments
  • ergonomically shaped with comfortable back padding
  • versatile
  • Backpack lockable with locks (optional)
  • Thanks to the inner steel frame, the backpack can be connected to any objects such as a railing with a steel cable (optional)
  • additional RFID blocker integrated

weaknesses

  • the room layout is sometimes a bit confusing - things easily disappear in the depths of the backpack, after which you have to search for them
  • the zipper of the front compartment can only be closed completely by detours

Pacsafe Venturesafe X40 review – solid anti-theft backpack for vacation?

My detailed conclusion

An anti-theft backpack is a good choice in many situations. Not just in popular places where thieves and criminals would otherwise have an easy time stealing your backpack or possibly reading out bank details and credit cards with an RFID reader. Even if you want to leave your backpack unattended for a few minutes, an anti-theft backpack like the Pacsafe Venturesafe X40 offers the option of connecting it to an attachment and locking the compartments individually with a lock. Thanks to the internal steel frame, to which a cable lock can be attached, the backpack can no longer be taken with you without making a massive effort.

In my Pacsafe Venturesafe X40 test in Thailand, this function in particular has proven to be incredibly practical. So, as a solo traveler, I could leave my backpack alone on the beach while I went swimming or SUP on Phuket have tried. The backpack can then at least not be stolen or cut open with simple means such as a carpet knife. If thieves want to steal the backpack, you already have to use a bolt cutter - and that's pretty noticeable in public places. The Pacsafe Venturesafe X40 is incredibly well made, has a very high quality and is ergonomically very pleasantly shaped. In my Pacsafe Venturesafe X40 test, the anti-theft backpack turned out to be a practical companion.
