How does GPS work on the smartwatch?
GPS means Global Positioning System - in German: Global Positioning System. Basically, GPS works the same on smartwatches as it does on other devices such as smartphones and navigation devices. The earth is surrounded by a network of appropriate navigation satellites. A Gadget with GPS receiver must be in contact with four or more satellites to be able to determine the position accurately. The satellites send their position to the smartwatch, which determines the location of the GPS receiver - i.e. the smartwatch with GPS - based on the respective positions and the time of signal transmission.
The more satellites are controlled, the more precisely the position can be determined. Basically, the location is so precise that the information is correct in the meter range. By including additional location positions such as WLAN routers, even positioning in the centimeter range is possible. If the wearer of the smartwatch moves, the change in position can be determined precisely because the comparison with the satellites occurs at very short intervals. In this way, the distance traveled per unit of time can be determined - including the speed.
