App in the Air Test & Experiences – What can the frequent flyer app do?

by

There are plenty of travel apps and frequent flyer apps for smartphones and tablets. But which programs are really useful for travelers and vacationers? We tested the frequent flyer app “App in the Air” extensively on the iPhone using the iOS operating system. Does it make sense to install the application?

Every airline has its own smartphone app and now offers in-flight entertainment, bonus points and shopping in second and third-party applications. In addition, so-called flight trackers such as Flightradar24 and flight search engines for cheap flights are an excellent way to kill time at the airport and get a lot of wanderlust. Who needs it on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch Another flight app in his smartphone travel folder?

Manage flights and record with App in the Air

“App in the Air is your personal flight assistance. It helps you to make the most of your flight experience. “This is the app for tracking flights with emphasis on social activities among app community,” reports Nikita Koscholkin, co-founder of Frequent Flyer Helpers. In German this means: You can use the app to manage flights, record them and share them with friends or a community. As frequent flyers, we have to try this out right away.

As a technology fan, when I'm traveling with my family or alone, I'm always happy to bring a few travel gadgets with me for testing purposes. My favorite travel countries, which I also prefer to write about in my travel blog: USA, Thailand and Maldives.

App in the Air – features in the test

The name “App in the Air” is probably derived from the Hollywood film “Up in the Air,” in which actor George Clooney plays a jet-setting frequent flyer. Rightly so, because the app is primarily aimed at air travelers who travel by plane once or several times a year. The program looks pretty inconspicuous at first glance: the app symbol on the iPhone display does not indicate a travel app and looks more like a half-open garage on a light blue background. You then end up in a kind of timeline from which the user receives an overview of all flights currently entered and from which you can access various menus and your account.

Of course there are no flights initially. The user can easily add their trips using a + symbol: First the starting airport is selected, then the destination airport. Thirdly, the date of the flight, so that the system then automatically suggests all flights that take place between the two airports on the selected day - across all airlines and comprehensively. Code sharing partners are also displayed. From here the user can easily select the desired flight.

Support from App in the Air supports customers reliably

If there are problems with the selection, App in the Air offers the option of sending your flight data directly to the app's support and they will enter the data for the customer. In the overview menu of the selected flight you can get a lot of information such as the flight status, the time until check-in, the route, the travel weather, the estimated times at the security check and at the check-in as well as essential information about the airline such as the hotline telephone number, website and direct check-in Possibility.

You can also select friends, add them to the flight and see who is nearby. The ability to add subscribers is the unique selling point of App in the Air. Once you have added the flight, it is in the timeline. The flight closest in the future is always displayed first. Past flights, however, last.

Flight track feature of App in the Air

The overview of current flights on App in the Air is a nice thing. But even better is the social account that the program offers. The user can create a profile - with a profile picture, real name, languages spoken and other information such as their own website. If you now enter your current and, optionally, past flights, App in the Air creates detailed statistics of all past flights: The user can see how many countries they have traveled to, how many airports, how many airlines, how many boarding passes and how many different aircraft he used.

All flights at a glance: App in the Air records all in one central location.

The program adds up the kilometers flown to create a high score. On this basis, the user has the opportunity to collect badges. All the information provided is also incorporated into a world map on which the user can see the routes they have flown. Overall, an informative, clear representation of all air travel in a selected period of time, which allows the user to always keep track of their trips.

Settings of the flight manager app

App in the Air offers a few practical setting options to optimize the user experience: The app can network on different devices via Facebook, Google and iCloud and synchronize the accounts accordingly so that the data on iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch etc. are always up to date and ready to hand. The app can also be connected to an existing TripIt account.

You can also set notifications with relevant information to be displayed on the smartphone home screen while you are at the airport. The distance can be changed from kilometers to miles and the temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit. In addition, upcoming flights can be automatically exported to the calendar in iOS so that they also appear there on all devices. Otherwise, the settings menu offers the usual functions: access to support, the ability to rate and access to the community.

App in the Air with Apple Watch App

The nice thing is that you can use all the functions of App in the Air directly with the associated App in the Air Apple Watch App on your wrist. This is particularly useful when using the smartphone program at the airport, as the mobile phone can then simply remain in your pocket. A really useful feature of the app.

App in the Air experiences – practical program for your flight recordings

How did the App in the Air application on the iPhone and iPad as well as the Apple Watch tested. Our conclusion is very clear: an incredibly practical, usable app (also on the Apple Watch), which is simple and user-friendly and quickly contains all information about upcoming and past events flights gives. The best way to find the world map is to show the past flight routes. The app certainly still has a lot of development potential ahead of it, such as interfaces to all major airlines, a live radar function or the ability to book flights directly from the app.

The current version of the app in the Air is so useful and practical that it has become our constant travel companion. We have now been using the program since 2015 and have tracked every flight with the free app since then. The app really scores points, especially when it comes to notifications within the airport and during the flight. It reminds the user to get to the gate on time and even on the flight to move and get up regularly, which is not only a nice gesture, especially on long flights, but also important for your health. All in all, App in the Air is one of the best travel apps in the App Store and should be part of the basic equipment on your smartphone and tablet for every frequent and infrequent flyer.

Do you use a frequent flyer app like App in the Air or Flighty? Why is tracking flights worth it for you? Share your experiences in the comments.
