Germany – Tips for a cheap trip with children and dogs

The summer of 2018 was probably the best that Germany has seen in many years. From mid-April to September there was consistent sunshine and warm temperatures. Although the drought also brought its problems, holidaymakers in Germany had a lot of fun. In many places it was even warmer and sunnier at times than on the Mediterranean. That's why everyone who booked their summer vacation in their own country was happy. And the prospects for traveling in Germany also look rosy in the coming years: summers are expected to become warmer and drier.

What is most likely due to climate change and can become a real problem for nature and agriculture should please travelers from Flensburg to the Allgäu: holidays in Germany are becoming real competition for them Destinations on the Mediterranean. And it definitely protects the climate - because within Germany you can travel comfortably by car, bus and train instead of getting on a plane and jetting all the way to Bali, which is harmful to the climate. So pack your things, load your children, grandparents, dog and cat into the car and off to the sea with the whole family.

Many regions in Germany are fantastically beautiful

It may be partly due to climate change, but a holiday in Germany has become more than a real alternative to the established travel destinations on the Mediterranean and in the rest of the world. Not just because of the lots of sunshine and warm temperatures. Germany's landscape is also simply wonderful in many places and can compete with the most beautiful travel destinations in the world. We want to give you some travel inspiration for your next vacation in Germany.

Traveling within your own country also offers several other advantages. Firstly, you usually travel by car. This ensures the greatest possible flexibility. In addition, everyone here speaks German. This is a decisive advantage on vacation for people who do not speak any foreign languages. Anyone who has little or no ability to communicate while traveling may have a major stress factor on vacation.

1. Holidays on the Baltic Sea: warm as the Mediterranean?

Many think of one Holiday on the Baltic Sea because it is often cold and rainy here, even in summer. We all know the pictures on TV when holidaymakers walk around the Baltic Sea coast in thick rain jackets in the middle of summer. But far from it: the coast from Fehmarn to Rügen is one of the sunniest regions in Germany. Admittedly not among the warmest, but at least among the places with the most sunshine.

And like in the rest of Germany, here in the Bay of Lübeck the sun shone almost constantly from mid-April to September in the summer of the century in 2018. And the temperatures were also impressive. Not only were the air temperatures often similar to those in Mallorca (yes, I compared it every day!), the water also became as warm as the Mediterranean in July and August, reaching up to 27 degrees Celsius (!!). If those aren't more than enough reasons for a vacation in Germany on the Baltic Sea.

Rider's holiday in the Bay of Lübeck

An exciting way to spend your holiday on the Baltic Sea is horse riding on the beach from October to the end of March. If you're on a winter holiday by the sea, you can ride a horse straight to the water. During this time, horse lovers can take their animals to the beach and go on long rides. Here in the Bay of Lübeck there are numerous riding stables for horse riding in Timmendorfer Strand, where you can either rent a horse or keep your own animal for the duration of your riding holiday. In any case, horseback riding on the beach is an unforgettable experience for all horse fans.

SUP and surf vacation on the Baltic Sea

Of course, water sports are also very popular on the Baltic Sea - from sailing, motorboating, jet skiing to surfing and trying out SUP on the Baltic Sea. You can take extensive tours on the Baltic Sea with your own board. Because the water is usually relatively calm and therefore offers optimal conditions for spending a great vacation with the stand up paddling board. And if it gets a little wavy, you can simply jump into the waves with your surfboard.

Beach holiday in Scharbeutz, Timmendorfer Strand and Co.

The region around Scharbeutz, Timmendorfer Strand and the neighboring towns has recently been increasingly referred to as the beach mecca in the Bay of Lübeck. Unfortunately, it was so full of holidaymakers this summer and you could hardly get a foot on the ground on the beach. However, if you don't spend your vacation here during the peak holiday times, you can really enjoy a wonderful beach vacation in Scharbeutz. Holidays in Germany are at their best in the Bay of Lübeck. An unforgettable trip to the beach can often be booked spontaneously and traveling with your own car is flexible anyway.

City trip to Hamburg: perhaps the most beautiful city in the world

Or how about a city trip to Hamburg? The Hanseatic city has recently been voted into the top rankings of the most beautiful and liveable cities in the world. It is almost unnecessary to list the many sights and leisure activities in this wonderful city. From the Elbphilharmonie to the legendary and infamous Reeperbahn, the impressive harbor to the historic Speicherstadt, Hagenbeck's zoo and the Outer Alster to the Binnenalster with the Jungfernstieg and the shopping miles, a city trip to Hamburg is an incredibly impressive experience. If you want to take a vacation in Germany, you can simply spend a short vacation or even a week in Hamburg. A visit to Hamburg is always an impressive experience.

2. Off to the Mosel

You will find a real picture-book idyll on the Moselle. A holiday in Germany is particularly wonderful and authentic here. The region around the river is simply picturesque and offers one of the most impressive landscapes in Germany with palaces, castles and wine-growing areas. The region is a popular holiday destination not only with German holidaymakers, but also with visitors from our neighboring countries Belgium and Holland. The best way to discover the region is on a river cruise on the Rhine.

3. Holiday in Bavaria: Deep in the southeast experience German Alpine panorama

Another highlight is the holiday region of Bavaria. Whether it's a trip to the Chiemsee, Starnberger See, Königssee and the many beautiful bodies of water in the Free State, a trip to Bavaria is always worthwhile.

Another highlight is the holiday region of Bavaria. No matter whether a trip to Lake Chiemsee, Lake Starnberg, Lake Königssee and the many beautiful bodies of water in the Free State, a trip to Bavaria is always worth it. Of course, you can also simply take a city trip to the state capital Munich. Or you can visit the wellness holiday mecca Bad Griesbach in Rottal. The entire mountainous and wooded region around Garmisch-Partenkirchen is also really beautiful.

Or you move with a river cruise ship along the Danube, which travels from Bratislava via Vienna into the Free State. Of course, you can also simply enjoy the Alpine panorama in the border triangle of Berchtesgadener Land with the Königssee. Wherever you end up in Bavaria, a holiday in Germany shows its most beautiful side here.

4. Holidays in Freiburg and on Lake Constance

The region around Freiburg in Breisgau and Lake Constance is also an excellent place to vacation in Germany. The area is one of the sunniest and most beautiful spots in the country and is a popular travel destination. From here you can also take a detour to Strasbourg or Switzerland. The area is beautifully centrally located and ideal as a starting point for a variety of discovery tours. A city trip to Stuttgart is also a great way to spend a short vacation.
