Travel report Mallorca – tips & experiences from an island full of joy

by

Mallorca is the comfortable home to return to after a long, adventurous journey and to be happy to be home again. A safe haven where the air smells of pine trees, the crystal clear waters lap the boats and the small, picturesque villages still carry the traditions of an old soul. In my travel report about Mallorca I would like to show the island from another side. A little declaration of love.

Table of Contents show

Alegría means joy - and that is probably what I associate most with Mallorca: carefree, exuberant and carefree times. I must have been around seven years old when I first came to Mallorca. And the very first impression I can remember is the smell of the pine forests sizzling in the scorching heat in summer. The spicy aroma of the heated wood, while the cicadas are chirping all over the forests and the wind stirs up the bone-dry, stony and sandy ground.

And equally the view from the balcony of our hotel room of the beach, the palm trees and the crystal clear, turquoise sea water. This first moment in Mallorca probably fundamentally shaped my idea of traveling and vacation - that's why Just Wanderlust and Strandkind are the way they are today - full of beaches, palm trees and sea.

I've been to Mallorca 14 times now - every visit is like coming home

Since that first vacation, I've been to Mallorca about 14 times. I made my first attempts at swimming in the shallow bay of Cala Fornells near Paguera, took the train from Palma to Soller with my grandpa, celebrated the night away on Playa de Palma after graduating from high school and later looked at the quaint villages in the interior of the island when I was in my cultural phase during my studies.

Later in my 20s, when I turned my passion for diving into a career, I was Diving at Isla Dragonera and in the El Torro Natural Park – an adventure in a completely different world. So many, so different trips to Mallorca that I almost lose track. I am free to summarize all of these experiences in a travel report from Mallorca with tips, ideas and inspiration for sights and leisure activities. Maybe there will be some inspiration not only for you as a newcomer to Belearen, but also for you as a real Mallorca insider?

Travel report Mallorca - my experiences with the beautiful island

My Mallorca experiences go back to my earliest childhood - so I associate a lot of great experiences and very first travel impressions with the island in the Mediterranean. Over the years I have been able to experience many sides of Mallorca and I am always surprised to be able to rediscover the travel destination again. The island is so diverse and varied that there is always something you haven't seen before. And that's what makes this travel destination so attractive: it never gets boring. Swimming in the beautiful bays alone is a reason to fly to Mallorca again and again.

Mallorca has so many beautiful corners - one vacation is hardly enough to see them all. That is probably the reason why so many people keep coming back to the island. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

Particularly in the east of the island, there are so many picturesque bays with small sandy beaches and turquoise water that it takes several trips just to discover this corner, for example while hiking or cycling. Or the restaurants and delicious Mediterranean cuisine that can be found all over the island can fill entire trips. In particular, anyone who ventures into the interior of the island will be rewarded in the rustic and traditional places.

Personally, I loved going diving off the coast of Mallorca again and again - because in the Mediterranean there are a lot more fish than you think, especially in the nature reserves - barracuda, rays and heat of fish await you under the water. If you prefer to go high, you can explore the mountainous west of Mallorca by car on the winding roads or as a hiker. And a trip to Isla Dragonera – the dragon island in the very southwest – is always an experience.

Hello, I'm Sascha Tobias Tegtmeyer from Hamburg - and a real beach child with heart and soul! Sea fan, travel lover and always up for an adventure. On my travel blog Just-Wanderlust.com and the social media channels of Strandkind Travels, I combine my love of traveling and nature with a passion for water sports such as stand-up paddling, diving and surfing. I am a journalist, author and blogger - and I am naturally curious when I get to know new travel destinations and then write about them in detail. As a technology fan, when I'm traveling with my family or alone, I'm always happy to bring a few travel gadgets with me for testing purposes. My favorite travel countries, which I also prefer to write about in my travel blog: USA, Thailand and Maldives.

Mallorca Sights - interesting places that you absolutely have to discover

In my travel report about Mallorca I would like to introduce you to the most beautiful places on the island. Because this island is a true paradise for everyone who is looking for adventure, relaxation and culture.

Mallorca sights - interesting places that you absolutely have to discover The harbor Port d'Andraitx is ideal for strolling and thanks to the numerous restaurants also ideal for eating out. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer
The port of Port d'Andraitx is ideal for strolling and, thanks to the numerous restaurants, also ideal for eating out. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

There are so many interesting places and activities to discover here that you definitely need more than one vacation to experience everything. I have already seen many beautiful corners of the island, but there is still so much more to discover.

1. Ferrocarril de Soller

I used to ride this historic railway many times with my grandfather when I was a child. One of Mallorca's most impressive and unforgettable sights is undoubtedly the historic Ferrocarril de Sóller railway line, built in 1912. The route runs from Palma in the scenic south of the island to Sóller in the west and, at 27 kilometers long, is one of the shortest railway lines in the world. Despite its brevity, this trip is an unforgettable experience not to be missed.

During the journey you have a breathtaking view of the beautiful landscape of Mallorca. The train glides past olive groves, orchards and impressive mountain ranges through tunnels and over viaducts, offering unique views of the sea and the surrounding mountains. Particularly impressive is the Sóller train station, which was built in the modernist style and is a true work of art.

From here you can take a small tram to the port town of Puerto de Sóller, about five kilometers away. Here you can expect a beautiful bay, a picturesque promenade and a variety of restaurants and bars that invite you to linger and enjoy.

Directions for the navigation system: Carrer d'Eusebi Estada, 1, 07004 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain

2. Palma Cathedral and La Almudaina Royal Palace

The Gothic Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca is undoubtedly one of the island's most recognizable landmarks and a must-see when visiting the island's capital. The imposing church, also called La Seu, is located on the edge of the old town directly at the harbor and towers majestically over the city. The mighty cathedral can be seen from afar and impresses with its beautiful architectural style and its history, which dates back to the 13th century.

The interior of the cathedral is also a highlight. Here visitors can expect decorated stained glass windows, impressive paintings and a beautiful organ. The impressive rose windows are particularly impressive, creating an enchanting play of light in the interior. In the immediate vicinity of the cathedral is the royal palace La Almudaina. The palace was once the residence of the kings of Mallorca and is now open to visitors. A guided tour of the palace gives you an insight into the lives of kings and can admire impressive paintings, sculptures and furniture

Directions for the navigation system: Plaça de la Seu, s/n, 07001 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain

3. Sa Dragonera - the dragon island

A trip to the dragon island of Sa Dragonera is a must for nature lovers and adventurers in Mallorca. The uninhabited rocky island off the west coast of Mallorca is a true paradise for animal and plant lovers. The island owes its name to the lizards that live there, the Dragonera, a subspecies of the Balearic lizard. The Eleonora's falcon has also found its habitat here.

You can reach the island by boat from the port of Sant Elm. The small holiday resort is located directly opposite the Dragon Island and can be visited directly when visiting Sa Dragonera. The crossing itself is a highlight and offers a wonderful view of the coast of Mallorca and the turquoise sea. Once on the island, visitors are greeted by a breathtaking natural backdrop.

The landscape is characterized by steep rock faces, wild maquis and pine forests. You can explore the island and experience the flora and fauna up close on several marked hiking trails. The view is particularly impressive from the highest point on the island, the 353 meter high Puig de na Pòpia.

Directions for the navigation system: Platja de Sant Elm, Av. Jaume I, 3, 07159 Sant Elm, Illes Balears, Spain

4. The bay of Cala Sa Nau

Cala Sa Nau is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful coves in Mallorca and I agree that it is worth a visit. Unfortunately, this beautiful place also has a disadvantage: it is very popular with tourists. This means that in high season you meet a lot of people and it is often very crowded. If you want to visit Cala Sa Nau I recommend you to do it outside of the holidays and high season. Then it is quieter and more relaxed and you can enjoy the beauty of the bay even better. But even in high season, it can be difficult to avoid the crowds. Then it is advisable to cycle to the bay to avoid the traffic chaos on the access road.

Cala Sa Nau has crystal clear water and a beautiful sandy beach. A small beach bar invites you to linger and refresh yourself. There are also some cliffs and rocks that are great for snorkeling and diving. There are a number of marked hiking trails in the area offering stunning views of the coast and countryside. When visiting Cala Sa Nau, it should be noted that there is no public parking. You have to park your car on the street and take a short walk to the bay. Due to the large crowds, it is advisable to arrive early in order to find a parking space.

Directions for the navigation system: Cala sa Nau, 07669, Illes Balears, Spain

5. Valldemossa

The small mountain village of Valldemossa on Mallorca is a real insider tip and is idyllically situated in the middle of the Serra de Tramuntana. The mountain range is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and stretches along the entire west coast of the island. Valldemossa is an ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of the island's capital, Palma, and enjoy the scenic countryside. The place has only 1969 inhabitants, but an astonishingly high proportion of foreigners of almost 15 percent, including many Germans. Valldemossa is over 400 meters above sea level and therefore offers stunning views of the surrounding area.

The city is best known for the Charterhouse of Valldemossa, a former 14th-century monastery that once served as a royal residence and later an artists' residence. The composer Frédéric Chopin and his lover, the writer George Sand, spent the winter here and wrote some of their most famous works. Today the Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa is a museum that offers an insight into the lives of the artists and has beautiful gardens. Valldemossa itself is a beautiful place that exudes a cozy and romantic atmosphere with its cobbled streets and stone houses.

Directions for the navigation system: Plaça Cartoixa, 7, 07170 Valldemossa, Illes Balears, Spain

6. Coves del Drac and Cuevas de Artà

The Coves del Drac are an absolute highlight among the sights of Mallorca and a must for every visitor to the island. The stalactite caves in the east of Mallorca near Porto Cristo are a true natural wonder and offer visitors a fascinating world of stalactites, stalagmites and subterranean lakes. A special highlight is the largest underground lake in Europe, the "Llac Martel". The special thing about the Coves del Drac is the impressive play of light that is created by the illumination of the cave ceiling and creates an unforgettable atmosphere.

However, it should be noted that it is quite cool in the caves with a constant temperature of 21 degrees Celsius. A light jacket or sweater is therefore recommended. Another highlight in the caves are the regular classical music concerts on the underground lake. A unique experience that should not be missed.

The Cuevas d'Artà - or Coves de s'Ermità - are also a stalactite cave system on the east coast. The caves are located directly on the coast near Canyamel.

Tip: Since the Coves del Drac are very popular and well attended, especially in high season, it is advisable to reserve your tickets early to avoid long waiting times.

Directions for the navigation system: Ctra. de les Coves, s / n, 07680 Porto Cristo, Illes Balears, Spain

7. Cape Formentor

Cap Formentor on Mallorca is an absolute insider tip for everyone who wants to enjoy spectacular views of the island. The drive there is an experience in itself - the road meanders through the mountains, past breathtaking landscapes and bays. The northernmost point of the island is not only a tourist hotspot, but also a popular starting point for hikes and bike tours. From here, those who enjoy hiking can take a tour to the top of the Puig de Formentor, from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the entire island and the sea.

The breathtaking view from Cap Formentor is also considered by the locals to be the most beautiful on the island. When visiting Cap Formentor, don't miss the lighthouse. The lighthouse was built in 1863 and is one of Mallorca's most recognizable landmarks. The view from up here is simply indescribable - you feel like you're on top of the world.

Another highlight at Cap Formentor is the drive along the serpentine road, which meanders spectacularly along rocks and bays. In some places the road is very narrow, which makes for adventure and thrills. But the drive is worth it: at the end of the street there is a small restaurant where you can enjoy the breathtaking view of the sea and the surrounding area with a cool drink or a delicious meal. All in all, Cap Formentor is an absolute must for every Mallorca holidaymaker - here you will be rewarded with unforgettable impressions and experiences.

Directions for the navigation system: Cap Formentor, 07460, Illes Balears, Spain

8. Es Trenc beach

Es Trenc Beach is an absolute highlight among Mallorca's beaches and a must for every beach lover. The three kilometers long and up to 50 meters wide sandy beach stretches along the south coast of the island and is surrounded by crystal clear water. The beach is surrounded by dunes and pine forests and has been preserved as a natural beach. Es Trenc is also known for its unspoilt nature and the turquoise blue water, which invites you to swim and snorkel.

The beach promenade and the immediate area are natural and there are few restaurants and bars nearby. The beach is also ideal for families with children, as the shallow water is ideal for splashing and playing. The beach is particularly beautiful in the early morning or at sunset, when the colors of the water and the sky are particularly intense and create a breathtaking atmosphere.

Directions for the navigation system: Platja des Trenc, Illes Balears, Spain

9. Bellver Castle

An absolute must when visiting Palma de Mallorca is the Castell de Bellver. The imposing fortress, which towers 112,6 meters above sea level, is a real eye-catcher and a popular photo opportunity. The special thing about this building is its round shape – an architectural masterpiece. From the top there are breathtaking views of the city of Palma and the surrounding countryside that are not to be missed.

The fortress was built in the 14th century and has served various purposes over time, including as a prison, barracks and school. Today the Castell de Bellver houses a museum and can be visited. If you want to learn more about the history and importance of this impressive fortress, you can take a guided tour. And anyone interested in observatories and astronomy should not miss the planetarium on the fortress grounds.

Directions for the navigation system: Carrer Camilo José Cela, s / n, 07014 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain

10. Mondragó Natural Park

The Mondragó Natural Park is a true natural paradise on Mallorca and offers a spectacular backdrop. Nature has exhausted its color palette here: Turquoise blue sea, white sandy beaches, green pine forests and bizarre rocks form an impressive backdrop. Numerous hiking trails meander through the varied landscape of the park and offer wonderful views.

The animal world is also diverse: with a bit of luck you can see turtles, foxes, lizards, geckos and many species of birds. There is also a lot to discover under water: the park also includes a marine reserve where you can discover a variety of fish and other sea creatures while snorkeling or diving. The Cala Mondragó beach in the park is particularly popular and is also suitable for families with children.

Directions for the navigation system: Carretera Mondrago s / n, 07691, Illes Balears, Spain

11. Palma Aquarium

The Aquarium of Palma de Mallorca is an absolute highlight for families with children and lovers of sea creatures. Over 55 different species of sea creatures live in a total of 5 tanks with 700 million liters of water. The aquarium is a combination of underwater park and adventure world and offers visitors the opportunity to experience the fascinating underwater world.

Particularly impressive are the coral reef department with a variety of coral species and the sea predator tank where sharks and other predatory fish swim. The aquarium has a strong commitment to protecting the marine environment and has launched a bluefin tuna conservation campaign. Anyone visiting Mallorca should not miss a visit to the Palma Aquarium.

Directions for the navigation system: Carrer de Manuela de los Herreros, 21, 07610 Palma, Illes Balears, Spain

12. Cala Ratjada and the bay of Cala Agulla

The picturesque fishing village of Cala Ratjada in the northeast of Mallorca offers its visitors a perfect combination of relaxed atmosphere and beautiful beaches. The town's small port invites you to linger in one of the cozy restaurants, where you can enjoy delicious Mediterranean dishes. The bay of Cala Agulla with its kilometer-long sandy beach is a paradise for sun worshipers and water sports enthusiasts.

If you like it a little quieter, you should definitely visit the nearby Cala Molto. The Platja de Ses Cavasses beach there is a real insider tip and an ideal place to relax and swim in the crystal clear water. Here you can relax in the midst of a picturesque landscape and escape the hustle and bustle of mass tourism.

Directions for the navigation system: Explanada Muelle, s / n, 07590 Cala Ratjada, Illes Balears, Spain

13. S'Heretat prehistoric settlement

The prehistoric settlement of S'Heretat is a real gem for history buffs visiting the island. The archaeological site dates back to 1000 BC. and was founded by the Talayotic culture. The ruins are located near the town of Capdepera and are an important testimony to Mallorca's prehistoric settlement history.

Here you can experience first-hand how people lived back then and what construction and handicraft techniques they mastered. The visit can be combined with a trip to the nearby Coves d'Artà, which is another highlight for every Mallorca vacationer.

Directions for the navigation system: Avd d´es Cap Vermell, 07589 Capdepera, Illes Balears, Spain (this is the address of the nearby golf course - the archaeological site does not have its own address)

Port d'Andratx is a picturesque and luxurious resort on the southwest coast of Mallorca. The small harbor is surrounded by an impressive mountain backdrop and offers a spectacular view of the turquoise blue sea and the many yachts that are anchored here. A stroll along the harbor leads past numerous shops, bars and restaurants offering a variety of culinary specialties. You can stroll along the promenade and enjoy the atmosphere of the city.

Leisure Activities in Mallorca – What to do?

Mallorca is not only a popular destination for sun worshipers and beach vacationers, but also for everyone who likes to do sports and actively explore the beauty of the island. The Balearic Island offers an enormous variety of leisure activities and hobbies for every taste and fitness level.

While diving in Mallorca one can encounter barracudas and many other marine animals. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

From jogging, cycling and hiking to climbing, kayaking and stand-up paddling to diving, snorkeling and many other unusual activities, Mallorca offers countless opportunities to spend your free time in a varied and sporty way. Below we highlight some of the best and most exciting activities to do in Mallorca.

1. Going for a walk, Nordic walking and jogging

Mallorca offers numerous opportunities to move and experience nature. One of the easiest and most popular is hiking. It is particularly nice to walk along the coast and enjoy the picturesque landscape. Nordic walking and jogging are ideal for more intensive physical activity.

The island is characterized by a varied landscape with many hills and mountains. Whether early in the morning or late in the evening, the cooler temperatures make training more comfortable and you can fully concentrate on the experience. So if you want to spend your holiday on Mallorca actively, you have many options.

2. Riding a bike

The island offers around 40 kilometers of designated cycle paths, which can be used by ambitious cyclists for distances of up to 200 kilometers. The flat coastal areas in the southeast of the island, on the other hand, are suitable for families and beginners. Here cyclists can discover beautiful bays and beaches, which are often overcrowded and difficult to access in summer.

But they can be reached quickly and easily by bike. There is a suitable route for every type of cyclist on Mallorca: While ambitious racing cyclists can scale the mountains and hills of the island, leisurely pleasure cyclists get their money's worth on the flat stretches along the coast.

3. Hiking and climbing

Anyone who likes to be out and about in nature on Mallorca should definitely pack hiking shoes. The island offers a variety of hiking routes for all levels of difficulty. It doesn't matter whether you want to do a short or long tour, whether you want to hike alone or in a group - you're guaranteed to find the right route here. The Serra de Tramuntana in western Mallorca is particularly popular and attractive. The mountain landscape, gorges, rocky ridges and the view of the sea make hiking here an unforgettable experience.

But other regions of the island, such as the nature park of the Llevant peninsula in the east of Mallorca or the picturesque orange groves near Sóller, also offer beautiful hiking opportunities. There are also numerous climbing areas on Mallorca for climbing enthusiasts, such as the area around the village of Santanyi.

4. Stand up paddling and kayaking

With its numerous bays and beautiful landscape, Mallorca is also a paradise for water sports enthusiasts. Stand-up paddling and kayaking are among the most popular sea activities. With the SUP board you can explore the coast of Mallorca in a very special way and enjoy the impressive landscape. There are also numerous offers for beginners in the local surf schools, which offer courses for all levels. If you like it a little quieter, you can also paddle along the coast in a kayak and experience the beauty of the bays and beaches from the water. The clear, turquoise water around the island offers ideal conditions for water sports. In many tourist centers such as Can Pastilla, Portocolom, Alcúdia and Paguera you can rent SUP boards and kayaks and embark on an adventure on the sea.

5. Diving and snorkeling

Snorkeling and diving is possible at many dive sites in Mallorca. There are several nature reserves around the island where fish stocks have recovered significantly in recent years and there is a lot to see underwater. In addition to exciting phase formations in the crystal-clear water, there are many plant species and of course lots of fish - especially schools of barracuda and groupers can be observed off the coast.

Moray eels and rays can also often be found. When snorkeling, however, you often come across small octopuses and many small, colorful fish that are in the shallow water. So far I have dived on Isla Dragonera and in the El Toro nature reserve near Santa Ponsa and was amazed by the diversity underwater. I have already written a few travel reports about diving in Mallorca.

Jetting across the island in a convertible puts you in a particularly good mood.

Would you like to get to know Mallorca from a different perspective and discover the beauty of the island on your own? How expensive is life in Mallorca?

The cost of living in Mallorca tends to be higher than in Germany. In particular, you have to spend more on food and everyday products on the Mediterranean island than in Central Europe. On the other hand, living is comparatively cheap - while property prices are rising sharply in Germany, you can still find cheap accommodation on Mallorca - provided you don't want to live in the best location right by the sea.

How many cities does Mallorca have?

Mallorca is divided into a total of 53 municipalities, all of which have an administrative seat with a mayor's office. In addition, the island is divided into six geographical zones (traditionally called comarques): Palma de Mallorca, Serra de Tramuntana, Llevant, Plà de Majorca, Raiguer, Migjorn.

What problems are there in Mallorca due to mass tourism?

Mallorca is visited by millions of tourists every year. Of course, the island faces major challenges and problems caused by mass tourism. As everywhere in the world, Mallorca is also struggling with a huge mountain of rubbish and especially with plastic waste in the sea. In addition, tourists also consume a lot of resources. Especially the drinking water, which can become scarce, especially in summer, should be mentioned here. Vacationers are therefore encouraged to use the water as carefully as possible during their stay.

Before the outbreak of the corona pandemic, around five million Germans came to Mallorca as vacationers (2019). That makes up almost half of the total number of tourists that year. It tends to be the quietest in Mallorca in the mountains - the Serra de Tramuntana - in the west of the island. In addition, it is comparatively quiet in the rural interior of Mallorca - for example in the picturesque town of Artà in the northeast of the island.

Is German spoken in Mallorca?

There is a tendency to speak a lot of German in Mallorca. Millions of German vacationers have been coming to the island every year for decades. The locals have adapted to this over time and therefore speak German more or less well. As a rule, you can communicate in German without any problems in all of the larger holiday resorts. If German is not understood, you can certainly communicate in English.

What do I have to consider if I want to emigrate to Mallorca?

The good news is: The European Union's free movement rules apply to Mallorca because the island belongs to Spain and therefore to the EU. As a citizen of an EU country, you can emigrate to Mallorca and look for work there without the need for a residence or work permit.

How expensive is groceries in Mallorca?

Anyone who has ever been to a supermarket in Spain will quickly notice that groceries and all everyday products are not exactly cheap. Anyone who knows the prices of groceries from the German discounter will quickly notice that groceries in Spain are significantly more expensive. Of course, you can't say in general that everything is much more expensive. I would estimate that groceries and everyday products are around 20 to 30 percent more expensive in Mallorca than in Germany. This applies in particular to international branded products that have to be brought to the island at great expense.

Travel information Mallorca

Arrival, weather, best travel time, general information

Mallorca is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the Mediterranean. The island offers an impressive variety of landscapes, from beautiful beaches to spectacular mountain landscapes. In order to make your stay on the island as relaxing and pleasant as possible, it is important to be well informed beforehand. In this travel information you will find all the important information and tips for an unforgettable holiday in Mallorca.

Getting to Mallorca – cheap flights anywhere in Europe

Getting to Mallorca is very easy these days as the island is served by all major European airports. There are numerous airlines, especially from Germany, that offer regular flights from Frankfurt, Munich or Düsseldorf. Depending on the season and demand, prices range from 27 to 350 euros for a return flight. But be careful: If you want to check in additional luggage and reserve a seat, you have to reckon with additional costs of around 180 to 450 euros.

Typical Mallorca weather – sunny and dry

In contrast to our latitudes with rather inconsistent weather conditions, the weather in Mallorca is often sunny and dry. Although there are months in which more rain falls on average, the weather on the holiday island tends to be quite good. After all, the Mallorca weather is one of the main reasons vacationers travel to the island. However, the beautiful weather also has its pitfalls: around the Mediterranean Sea there can also be very strong heat waves in summer with temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius and tropical nights. Accommodation with air conditioning is then an advantage.

Best time to travel to Mallorca – April to October, but actually all year round

Mallorca is known for its sunny and dry climate. Unlike many other destinations in Europe, where rain and bad weather are not uncommon, warm temperatures and bright sunshine can be expected in Mallorca for most of the year. However, there are also months when it rains more and the climate is a bit more unstable. In general, the best time to travel to Mallorca is between May and October. During this time it rarely rains and the temperatures are pleasantly warm. But you can also spend a nice holiday on Mallorca in the other months if you are prepared for slightly cooler temperatures and occasional rain showers.

But the beautiful weather in Mallorca also has its pitfalls: Especially in summer there can be very hot days and nights with temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius. If you don't have a chance to cool down, you risk heatstroke or sunstroke. Accommodation with air conditioning is therefore an advantage in the hot season. Also, make sure to drink enough water and stay in the shade during the day to avoid dehydration. Overall, however, Mallorca's weather is a huge plus for the island, making it a popular destination for sunbathers and beach lovers.

Cost of living in Mallorca

Anyone who has ever been to a supermarket in Spain will quickly notice that groceries and all everyday products are not exactly cheap. Anyone who knows the prices for food from German discounters will quickly notice that food in Spain is noticeably more expensive.

Of course, you can't say across the board that everything is significantly more expensive. I would estimate that food and everyday products in Mallorca are around 20 to 30 percent more expensive than in Germany. This is particularly true for international branded products, which require a lot of effort to bring to the island.
