Diving in Mallorca - Diving Center Marbalear in the noble marina Port Adriano

by

In Port Adriano on Mallorca, the superlatives are close together: hundred-meter-long luxury yachts, chic cafes and, right in the middle, the first-class Marbalear diving center. How is diving in Mallorca? We looked around underwater. You can read our experiences here in our little one Travelogue

Table of Contents show

Diving in Mallorca and then also in a nature reserve with lots of fish and an exciting location? This is possible in the southwest of the popular Balearic island: “A diving center in a prime location,” a popular but relative term. Many dive centers in the Mediterranean would claim to be in the “best place”. But, as is so often the case in life, it's easy to exaggerate or exaggerate. However, when a Mallorca diving center like Marbalear claims to be located in one of the most modern marinas in Europe, that is only half the truth and quite an understatement.

What makes the base a superlative are the following aspects: more than 200 square meters of space, a training pool and its own jetty with two special diving boats. That's all there is to diving Majorca – or is it? In my little diving travel report I have put together my Mallorca diving experiences for you.

Diving in Mallorca - Diving center Marbalear in Port Adriano as a starting point for great diving trips

Ayelén Ganser has everything under control at Marbalear: she coordinates the diving tours, welcomes the guests and organizes operations. The manager welcomes me warmly and shows me around the spacious rooms. Customers first come to a huge, eye-catching counter in the reception area. The first impression: It looks amazing – and everything is perfectly organized.

Guests receive their equipment at their own issuing point and can then change in a spacious, separate room. This area really has plenty of space - unpleasant jostling with fellow divers is a foreign concept here. Perfect for an extensive diving holiday.

The lockers for regular customers are located in a separate hallway so that they can store their equipment safely and conveniently at the base. On the left you notice the two separate training rooms, which are bright and modern with projectors. In one of them, diving instructor training is currently taking place with base manager Óscar Espinasa. Diving instructor Jandro immediately comes to me. He will be our guide on today's tour.

Simple, casual vacation diving

Diving on Mallorca can be so easy: The friendly Spaniard explains the procedure to me and my English-speaking buddy Frank: “You bring the ABC, jacket and machine onto the boat yourself,” he explains. Someone from the staff carries the bottles. Everything is then assembled on the ship. You just return to base briefly to squeeze yourself into the suit. Alejandro gives a detailed briefing, easy to understand and with all the important safety instructions and information about the dive site.

Then we go on the special Zodiac and past the impressive yachts. At the harbor exit there is a huge ship, easily around a hundred meters long. “I work on the crew there,” Frank tells me. The owner of the ship is a multi-billionaire and comes from India and is known from radio and TV. He wasn't allowed to reveal anything more.

Diving in Mallorca - there is a lot going on under water at the El Torro rock

As soon as we left the harbor, we headed for the island of El Toro with the lighthouse in the marine reserve, our diving site today. Together with the Diving at Isla Dragonera near San Telmo, this spot is probably one of the best diving spots on Mallorca. The crossing takes just under ten minutes with decent waves. So we quickly get into the water, because it's quieter there: We dive down, first sinking onto the top of the reef and from there down the edge of the reef to a depth of 30 meters.

With what I see under the water surface, I did not expect: Absolutely impressive, everything is full of fish! So many marine life can be seen in the Mediterranean but extremely rare, at least not in a bunch. The last time I caught so many fish was while diving on the Zenobia Cyprus seen. Obviously the ban on fishing in the nature reserves has worked and early October is definitely one of the best months to dive in Mallorca. The water is still nice and warm and we lie perfectly balanced in our semi-dry suits like spectators in the water.

On our tour we see numerous big ones GroupersHalf a dozen moray eels of all sizes and a huge flock of a few hundred barracudas, who know no shyness or distance and swim past our heads at a distance of less than a meter.

I've never come this close to barracudas. “Wow,” says Jandro after the dive, “that was one of my best dives of the year, we're lucky!” I can only agree: It was also one of my best underwater tours this year. That's why it becomes clear to me: Superlatives on land that amaze even experienced divers are one thing, overwhelming moments of surprise on the reef are quite another. This is exactly how diving should be in Mallorca.

Favorite dive site of dive shop owner Óscar Espinasa

“My absolute favorite is Spotdive 3 in front of Isla del Toro - one of the most popular diving spots on Mallorca. Both beginners and advanced can enjoy the crystal clear water of the marine reserve from Spot 3. Every dive is different and very special, as many different species live in this area: groupers, octopuses, moray eels and barracudas. A place everyone will be happy to come back to. "

Travel tips Mallorca – diving and sea

Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands, is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. The island offers a rich culture, beautiful beaches and stunning scenery with something for everyone. Whether you are interested in outdoor activities, relaxing on the beach or cultural discoveries, Mallorca has it all. Below we give you some tips and recommendations that will make your stay on the island unforgettable.

Food in Mallorca

The Mallorcan cuisine is a regional offshoot of the Spanish Mediterranean cuisine and overall a bit heartier. In addition to Mediterranean vegetables are fish, meat and vegetable stews and strong soups typical of Mallorca. Popular pastry: Ensaïmada - try it!

Arrival to Mallorca

There are direct flights to the Mediterranean island from all major German airports with many well-known airlines such as Eurowings, RyanAir, Condor, Germania, Lufthansa and EasyJet.

Health while diving

You don't necessarily have to speak Spanish to find out about your health on the island. Numerous German doctors have set up their own practices on Mallorca. Important for divers: The bases have a mobile pressure chamber center that is on standby 24 hours a day.

Excursion tips in Mallorca

Mallorca is the most popular travel destination for Germans for a reason: the southwest of the island is very well developed for tourism. There is a lot of activity in the holiday resorts with many restaurants and shopping opportunities. Of course, it is also worth exploring the rest of the island: in the far west is the small village of San Telmo and the nature reserve around the Isla Dragonera – a must-see! The mountainous west offers rustic mountain villages.

The city of Sóller with its associated harbor Port de Sóller is particularly worth seeing. The lively metropolis of Palma is also always worth a visit. In the far east you should visit the caves of Porto Christo and take a short bathing stop in one of the countless picturesque bays with turquoise water.

Living in Mallorca

In the southwest of Mallorca there are countless simple to upscale hotels with affordable accommodation options and premium hotels with all-inclusive facilities. In addition to the extensive range of hotels, it is also possible to rent a holiday apartment or holiday home in the region. From a one-room apartment to a complete house with a pool for ten or more people, there is something for every need.

The Marbalear diving center can be reached within a few minutes from the surrounding towns of Santa Ponsa, Paguera and Palmanova. Port d’Andratx is a bit more upscale and chic. There are numerous very good restaurants and bars here.
