Combine wellness vacation, diving and water sports? Actually difficult for die-hard divers and water sports fans, because you usually can't have everything on a diving holiday. This is possible in Cyprus, because the local Aldiana Clubhotel leaves nothing to be desired and offers its guests plenty of adventure, action and sporting activity, but also wellness, relaxation and detox. I was on vacation in Cyprus in the Aldiana and - for test purposes - let myself be pampered by the grain.
The air smells of the Mediterranean, orange trees and early summer. I can already hear the sound of the sea from the beach. That means: finally relax, finally Diving Holidays! It's not hard to guess where my first route leads: George and Angel from the diving center show me the modern station, which is located at the beach bar area of the Aldiana.
The dive planning for the next few days: A short checkdive on the house reef today and the next day we will set off for the famous “Zenobia” and the new wrecks that no one has visited yet. Together with Cape Greco, where a few moderate places with many cave systems await us, they should be the highlight of my diving vacation “feel-good week”. I think with excitement of the dives on the exciting giant wreck.

Holidays in Cyprus - my experiences with wellness, diving and water sports in the Aldiana Club Hotel
Cyprus is an island in the eastern Mediterranean that is not only huge but also known for its rich history, diverse culture and stunning nature. Every time I drove across the island with my driver, I was glued to the window pane and couldn't stop staring. What a beautiful landscape. There is much to discover inland, but the real treasures lie on the coast.
Cyprus is a paradise for wellness, diving and water sports fans. I've tried it myself and I'm thrilled. In this blog post I would like to report on my vacation in Cyprus and introduce the Aldiana Clubhotel, which gave me an unforgettable stay.
Wellness hotel on the south coast of Cyprus
The Aldiana Clubhotel is located on the south coast of Cyprus near Limassol. It is a luxurious resort with its own sandy beach, a large pool, several restaurants and bars, and a wide range of sports and wellness facilities. The hotel offers its guests everything their heart desires: from tennis and golf to yoga and Pilates. However, the highlight for me was the diving and water sports center.
As an avid diver, I was very excited to see the underwater world of Cyprus. I was not disappointed: the water was crystal clear, the temperatures were pleasant and the variety of fish was impressive. I have made several dives and explored some spectacular dive sites: for example the wreck of the Zenobia, one of the largest shipwrecks in the Mediterranean, the Amphorae Caves where you can admire ancient pottery shards, or the Devil's Head Rock Formation where you can walk through a tunnel can dive.
Destination for water sports and wellness
In addition to diving, I also tried other water sports: windsurfing, kitesurfing and stand-up paddling, for example. The Aldiana Club Hotel has a professional water sports school with qualified instructors and modern equipment. I had a lot of fun and learned new skills. I was also able to enjoy the beautiful coast of Cyprus from the water.
Of course, after so much action, I also needed a bit of relaxation. Fortunately, the Aldiana Clubhotel has a great wellness area with a spa, sauna, steam bath and whirlpool. I treated myself to a couple of massages and let myself be pampered all over. The hotel also offers various wellness packages, such as detox cures or Ayurveda treatments.

Notorious Zenobia is a highlight on diving holidays in Cyprus
Captain Nikos Mentonis is a passionate skipper. With his motor yacht “Atlantis” he takes divers to the impressive, over 170 meter long wreck every day. De-rope and begin the five-minute crossing from the pier in Larnaca. There's enough time for a little chat. “Once I was a simple fisherman,” Mentonis begins.
He saw how the passenger ferry was tilted not far from the harbor entrance and how everyone was evacuated in panic. “Nobody believed that the ship would sink,” says the current ship owner. Time to get ready to dive: put on your suits, switch the dive computer to Nitrox and take a bold step into the water!
George dives headfirst into the blue until the huge wreck becomes blurry. It's indefinable which part that is - until we reach a gigantic ship's propeller. The first goal and at the same time the deepest point of our wreck dive at almost 30 meters. What a huge steel colossus! From there it goes on to the rear loading flaps. There are thousands of silver sea bream, especially at the stern.
Barracudas on the hunt chase entire swarms around the overgrown wreck. They are accompanied by a school of large silver tuna and some beautifully patterned groupers. So much fish! Are we really in the Mediterranean?
Behind the flaps is the car deck, which stands vertically in front of us like a wall. The bream swim around us in clouds. Below are the trucks, just as they slid into each other on the deck almost 35 years ago when the wreck hit the seabed. Some trailers and tractors stick out of the huge heap of scrap metal. At the end of the deck, the loading area is spanned by the passenger decks.
You can enter the ship a few floors higher: through an opening in the upper deck you enter a long corridor that leads to the bridge. Small windows allow light into the hallway, but it is not possible to dive out through them. So be careful: once you're inside, the path only goes forward - past toilets, a coffee machine and finally back out through the command bridge. But now it's time to show up - enough thrills for today!
Aldiana Cyprus – wellness, fitness, musicals
In the early afternoon we are back from our trip. This leaves enough time to thoroughly enjoy the club's facilities. Off to the wellness center! Here, with a fitness room, sauna, indoor swimming pool and whirlpool, the complete feel-good range is offered. In addition, the Aldiana Cyprus has a huge sports program for its guests: from tennis to surfing and sailing, there is something for every taste. Jogging and walking can be excellent on the beach and the subsequent cliffs.
I also try wakeboarding and water skiing. Thanks to the professional guidance of the Werner Lau team, which not only organizes the diving center but also some of the water sports on offer, you can do this without falling. If you want, you can also simply relax by the pool during the day and be entertained by moderate entertainment. True to the motto: everything can, nothing has to.
Cyprus Diving Holidays - big program at Aldiana Resort
After a fantastic dinner, a musical is performed in the in-house theater: the audience is really warmed up with scenes adapted from James Bond films. The musicals and plays are put on by the Aldiana staff and are really well done. Aldiana has all kinds of creative specialists flown in from Germany especially for this purpose.
After the performance there is of course the after show! Staff and guests can have a drink at the pool bar or go to the disco from 23 p.m., where people can dance until the early hours of the morning. It becomes clear to me: a week's stay is simply far too short for the program on offer!
Wrecks sunk off Cyprus
A premiere is coming up! At the end of February, two new wrecks were sunk off Limassol and diving instructor Angel wants to take a closer look at them. The large fishing boat "Costandis" and the small steamer "Lady Thetsis" lie at a depth of 25 meters. Both wrecks are visible from the surface and divers can simply slide down to them on a buoy line.
Today we are diving to the “Costandis”. The fishing cutter has the typical structures for the nets. The bridge is very small and well preserved. The steering wheel and instruments are still clearly visible. The boat can be completely explored, with the highlight certainly being the engine room with the still existing and well-preserved engines. The trawler is also suitable for beginners, but only advanced users should dare to look inside. A whole troop of flutefish stands at the bow and curiously watches the divers floating by. At the bow you can also see the force with which the ship hit the seabed and what a huge path it created.
A versatile island - Cyprus diving holidays at its best!
Base manager George has been living with his family in Cyprus for two years. The mild climate and the quality of life have attracted him: "You can ski here in the winter in the morning and in the afternoon at almost 30 degrees wakeboarding. In fact, there is a ski resort in the mountains, "says George. "Where else is that possible?"
The easternmost island in the Mediterranean is very diverse: there are sandy beaches and cliffs, quiet mountain villages and metropolises like Limassol, sprawling plains and mountains beyond 1000 meters. The island blooms in the winter months because the climate is almost subtropical. Even bananas are grown. There are four cave diving sites at Cape Greco that you can dive through and climb through on land.
Further west, in the middle of the island, is Nicosia. It is the only capital in the world divided by a secure border. The barrier, which is permeable thanks to check points, runs in the middle of the historic city center. A visit to the Turkish part is worthwhile, because a completely different world awaits you there: It is only a few steps from the Occident to the Orient - and you will find yourself between mosques and lively bazaars.
With great impressions we return to the Aldiana. And after relaxing hours in the whirlpool and Sauna I'm looking forward to the excellent buffet, which offers Mediterranean and international delicacies. There really is everything your heart desires. And here, too, a week is actually far too short to try everything extensively. But I'll go one more time - after all, ice cream always fits.
