The vacation paradise of Sharm El Sheikh is located on the southern tip of the Sinai Peninsula. The small, relaxed resort in Egypt is home to excellent hotels and is the perfect travel destination for everyone who wants to combine sun, beach, tranquility, wellness, excellent food and adventure on their vacation. I looked around on site and rediscovered a forgotten paradise in South Sinai. Sounds very tempting, doesn't it? I have for you in mine Travelogue Sharm El Sheikh tips on sights, hotels, excursions and activities compiled.

Sharm El Sheikh and southern Sinai have an almost magical effect on me. The turquoise water in contrast to the bare mountains, the hustle and bustle on the streets and yet the orderly, well-kept ambience of the small, tidy place Place, which largely consists of hotels. Sharm is unique and, in my opinion, much more beautiful than Hurghada - in terms of the place itself. On the other side on the west coast there are of course also beautiful places from El Gouna to Makadi Bay to Marsa Alam.

If you look around the hotels in Sharm El Sheikh, holidaymakers are baking in the sun by the pool, diving headfirst into the lagoons on the beach on the roof of the huge fringing reef or simply spending a lot of time doing sports. I'll give you lots of them in our detailed Sharm El Sheikh travel report holiday tips to sights, leisure activities and excursions - because in Sharm you can do a lot and experience a lot Vacation .

After arriving in Sharm El Sheikh, I first enjoy the mild, summery air, which easily reaches over 30 degrees at the end of October, and the cloudless sky - and immediately feel in the holiday mood. Because there is not much going on in Sharm. The place in Egypt is currently a well-kept secret and not easy to reach as there are still very few flights. I'm all the more excited to stay at the Cleopatra Luxury Resort in Sharm El Sheikh for a few days and really put my feet up, do a little diving and discover the area around the place.

Holidays in Sharm El Sheikh are ideal for those seeking tranquility, wellness fans and luxury vacations

Life is easy these days in Sharm El Sheikh. And relaxed, because the utilization of the Hotels and resorts is currently between 30 and 75 percent. Because many tourists are still avoiding the resort where there was a bad bomb attack on a Russian passenger plane a few years ago. The security precautions are accordingly high - I feel completely safe from the first minute.

What is certainly not optimal for the hoteliers is even better for the vacationers who dare to come here. Because if the resorts are not fully booked, that creates space in many ways. There is no longer any trace of the mass tourism that was once prevalent in Sharm El Sheikh. The place looks modern, dignified and quiet – a premium holiday atmosphere, in my opinion.

You can relax and shop or eat in the old town without being overly hassled and enjoy the holiday atmosphere on the Red Sea among the friendly locals. Egypt is experiencing an economic boom and this is also noticeable in Sharm El Sheikh. Many Egyptians come from Cairo to vacation on the Red Sea.

And we can also feel the calm in the hotels. At the large, inviting pools as well as at the buffet, in the hotel's wellness area, when choosing a sun lounger Beach, on the diving ships and snorkeling boats and of course on the reefs. Who wants to see more divers than fish underwater?

My first impression from Sharm El Sheikh is therefore clear: That Place is relaxed, clean and makes a rather dignified impression to me. I looked at the “Sharm” principle in my Sharm El Sheikh travel report and checked into the five-star Cleopatra Luxury Resort – one of the best hotels on site.

Cleopatra Luxury Resort Sharm El Sheikh – a luxury hotel for the eye and the soul

I like the Cleopatra Luxury Resort - a hotel that runs smoothly. Both in terms of service and infrastructure. The house is under Austrian management. In the imposing entrance hall of the Luxury resorts it shines and shines. The relatively small complex consists of a main building and several three-story residential buildings nestled in a landscape of pools, palm trees, and pathways. It is easy to endure here.

If there were nothing else to see in Sharm, you could just spend a week by the pool and be pampered to the letter. Or spend a day at the beach in Naama Bay. Otherwise, the hotel is an ideal starting point to explore Sinai - St. Catherine's Monastery, the small town of Dahab or simply to do a few dives in Ras Mohammed National Park.

Anyone who wants to go on holiday in Sharm El Sheikh is spoiled for choice: hotels are a dime a dozen here. The small, tranquil town consists largely of resort complexes that are lined up along the coast and appeal to holidaymakers in all price ranges and categories, depending on their preferences. The guests just have to decide where they want to spend the most beautiful days of the year.

Five stars are already recommended in Egypt. Four-star hotels and four-star plus are also possible in well-run hotels. But if possible, holidaymakers should choose the resorts from the highest category in order to fully enjoy their holiday and access the highest standards in the holiday destination.

The Cleopatra Luxury Resort is just a few kilometers from Sharm El Sheikh International Airport and is centrally located in the northern part of the resort in the Nabq district. The facility is under Austrian management by the general manager Christian Fuchs and is one of the best hotels in the Sinai. The resort is a delight for the eyes and the soul. Because the complex nestles harmoniously on the coast, is green and designed with great attention to detail - and is simply inviting Detox vacation, Relax and unwind.

Egypt hotel with wellness factor – that’s where relaxation begins straight away

The first impression is correct – these are good conditions! So the vacation can begin. Snacks and drinks are waiting for me in the spacious, luxurious rooms and the view extends directly to a huge pool over the hotel's own beach to the Tiran Islands - the offshore islands that now belong to Saudi Arabia. The view couldn't be better. Most of the resort's rooms have wonderful views of the swimming pools and the sea. Relaxation sets in immediately after a deep breath of the salty sea air. At the beginning of November the temperatures are still relaxed above 30 degrees Celsius and the garden of the hotel complex smells like Summer.

I enjoy the peace and quiet and the warm air in the evening - after hectic days in Germany I can finally switch off. The WLAN works very well in the entire complex, but I try to use it as rarely as possible. Because you can keep yourself busy even without the Internet. You can sit outside in the evening and sip a delicious cocktail in one of the bars.

The next morning, of course, we go straight to the pool. Rules in Egypt sun guarantee and not a single cloud is in the sky during our journey. We take a refreshing swim in one of the lagoon-like pools and nourish properly vitamin D. Thanks to all inclusive we are well supplied with snacks and drinks and can serve us anywhere in the area to your heart's content. The Cleopatra Luxury Resort really gets a holiday feeling after a few hours and we are completely satisfied with the great accommodation. Just great!

Vip Diving College in Sharm El Sheikh – diving among friends

Yes, I want to relax and unwind - but not exclusively. Of course I would also like to experience something and - as a diver - of course discover the underwater world. That's why it's all about diving and snorkeling. Yes, Diving is also recreation and some refer to diving as meditation. We want to jump into the sea and get one Adventures experience in the underwater world. The Vip Diving College is located directly on the beach of the hotel complex. The small diving center looks cozy and inviting. And the owner Saber is a local with a special history. The Egyptian originally started as a temporary worker and later as a dive guide in dive centers - practically at the bottom in the industry like many of his compatriots.

Team from Vip Diving College: Best diving with a young dive center. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer
The team of Vip Diving College: excellent diving with a young dive center. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

But Saber has worked his way up. It is rather a rarity that diving centers are in Egyptian hands. Saber, on the other hand, is a self-made entrepreneur who has made it: With his own hands he has built the dive center's building and built everything lovingly. Today, he runs a successful business, has several employees and even owns a dive yacht, which sets off for weekly trips to the most beautiful dive sites of the Red Sea. What a success story! But Vip Diving College also offers the highest Quality in diving?

Sharm El Sheikh – snorkeling and diving at its best

From a nearby harbor we start for diving and snorkeling North towards the Tiran Islands. Today, the Jackson Reef is on the plan. The large, spacious boat with a wide dive deck and filling system fulfills all wishes a diver can have. Everyone does theirs diving equipment finished and off you go into the water. Because in Egypt, the tropical rainforest is under water. To the same extent that the landscape above the surface of the water is sparse, it is full of life and colors in the sea.

Yes, what's going on at the dive sites? We will not be out of astonishment any more. Underwater awaits us a huge variety with healthy, colorful coral reefsthat reach to below the sea surface and many marine life in the Red Sea are native.

turtles, some Sharks species, Batfish, rays, stingrays, blue spotted rays, moray eels, fusiliers and triggerfish. Many animals such as Sharks in the Red Sea we see on a single dive. What a great dive here at Jackson Reef and Gordon Reef. On the Gordon Reef 1981 a huge freighter has come up. He still hangs there today and rusts to himself. Really a stunning and spooky sight.

And our Egyptian guide Saber knows that dive sites like his back pocket. He dives relaxed before us and shows us the best attractions and at first glance not obvious highlights at the dive sites. Great, how relaxed he is when diving. With him we feel safe during the whole time under water and in fact quite like VIPs.

What animals can be seen while snorkeling and diving in Sharm El Sheikh?

Those who dive into the popular and well-known reefs in Sharm El Sheikh can experience a wealth of marine life discover! Sometimes one sees several famous and popular marine animals on the living coral reefs, whose encounter makes the dive an unforgettable experience. The stars on the reef are clearly the DolphinsSo the bottlenose dolphins. With a bit of luck they can even be seen underwater. In addition, there are occasional manta rays, eagle rays, stingrays on the reefs, Hedge, Hawksbill Turtles and Napoleons. Morays can be discovered on every dive.

And groupers are not uncommon. Parrotfish, puffer fish and crocodile fish are common inhabitants of the reefs that you see more often. Bannerfish, angelfish, butterflyfish and the red sea crayfish can actually be found on every reef, as well as the great barracuda and blue spotted stingrays. Corals are also animals! And most frequently, there are the seafloor, the table coral and the bush coral that thrive in the blooming coral gardens. As you can see, there is a lot to discover at the dive sites around Sharm El Sheikh.

Holiday tip – visit Sharm El Sheikh’s old town

After the adventurous diving, I was overcome by the desire to explore and want to see even more of Sharm El Sheikh. The small holiday resort also has a lot to offer on the water surface and the old town in particular with the huge Al Mustafa Mosque has a very special, oriental atmosphere. Here you can go shopping and at the same time discover Egyptian culture with shisha and local food. Those who appreciate western shopping culture can now find really large western shopping malls in Sharm where they can shop to their heart's content. Here in the center of Sharm El Sheikh, everything is characterized by the hospitality of the Egyptians.

A trip to the old town of Sharm El Sheikh is an absolute must! Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

Of course, people also want to sell something to vacationers. But that's not all. The hospitality and warmth of the people is not fake. And anyone who gets involved will quickly make exciting new acquaintances with the locals, discover the best local restaurants where the locals go to eat and certainly have one or two intercultural conversations. Anyone traveling to Egypt should definitely throw themselves into life and not just spend their vacation behind the walls of their hotel complex. This definitely makes a holiday by the sea richer and more colorful.

I felt at home at the Cleopatra Luxury Resort

If there is one thing in Egypt that makes this country so special, it is the people and the hospitality. You could really feel this warmth in the hotel. The staff at the facility were curious, open-minded and super friendly. And you could feel this warmth of the heart all over Sharm El Sheikh. The people are happy about the vacationers. You live there by and with the bathers.

During my trips into the city to see the sights of the small holiday resort, you could feel this hospitality, as well as in the hotel and while diving. This is exactly why many guests are now returning to the beaches of the Red Sea after the lean years in Egypt with an improved security situation. You feel comfortable here and enjoy the warmth of the people's hearts. It's hard to avoid feeling at home here after just a few days.

Sights in Sharm El Sheikh

Sharm El Sheikh is above all a place for vacationers and tourists, as large parts of the city consist of resorts or are designed for tourism purposes. But also the locals have theirs here insiderthat they will lead you to with pride and joy if you ask them nicely. Those who do not isolate themselves in the hotel, but venture out into the town and mingle with the Egyptians, are sure to give their vacation more added value. Those who come to “Sharm” are looking for sun, warmth, relaxation and maybe some adventure. Here you will definitely find some sights that you should definitely visit.

Farsha Mountain Lounge

A shisha bar and lounge that is second to none: The Farsha Mountain Lounge is a café that is built into the mountain in tiers and is located directly on the sea. During the day you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Red Sea and in the evening you can sit comfortably with an aromatic shisha and a delicious cocktail in a relaxed lounge atmosphere.

Farsha Mountain Lounge is frequented by both locals and vacationers. If you want, you can exchange ideas with Egyptians here. The colorfully lit outdoor bar is definitely a must-visit in Sharm El Sheikh!

Al Mustafa mosque

The Al Mustafa Mosque in the old town of Sharm El Sheikh is by far the most interesting building in Sharm. The huge mosque is still a new building: It was only built in the XNUMXs over several years. It is nicely lit in the dark. When you stand outside the imposing building, it reminds you a little of a fairytale castle from a Disney film.

Of course, the mosque can also be visited inside. With elegant furnishings such as high-quality carpets and carvings under a huge dome, it will amaze visitors. Please remember to dress respectfully and only enter the house without shoes.

Papyrus Museum Sharm

As everyone knows, Egypt has a tradition that goes back thousands of years. Writing on papyrus is an important part of this culture. In the exhibition in the Papyrus Museum in Sharm El Sheikh you will find exciting relics from the high culture of the ancient Egyptians, to which pictures and writings belong. The unique history of Egypt comes to life in this museum.

National Park Ras Mohammed and Nabq

The Ras Mohammed National park you should definitely visit the waterside. On land there are a few mangroves and bushes, but otherwise the landscape in the two national parks that surround Sharm El Sheikh is rather barren. Real life rages under water. The dive sites are also suitable for snorkelers and will absolutely inspire you. There you will find wonderful coral gardens and the who-is-who of the underwater life.

Excursion tips in Sharm El Sheikh, on the Sinai Peninsula and in Egypt

Basically, Egypt is fully specialized in tourism, especially on the Red Sea. That's why you have the opportunity to plan many great excursions in Sharm El Sheikh. This of course includes many classics such as a quad tour or a trip on a small desert safari with an off-road vehicle. These are probably the classics. But if you want, you can also go on more challenging tours and visit Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza, for example. I've put together some of the best excursion tips for you.

Quad tour in Sharm El Sheikh: off to the desert Sinai

A quad tour is probably one of the classic excursions in Sharm El Sheikh. For the really great tours, however, you have to get up very early. At sunrise we head into the desert with a fast quad at around five in the morning. The term desert is certainly relative.

With the quad, it goes from Sharm El Sheik off in the desert Sinai. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

From your starting point in Sharm El Sheikh you will drive a few kilometers inland and your tour guide will show you beautiful vantage points where you have a magnificent view of the sea, Sharm El Sheikh and the mountainous landscape of Sinai.

Boat trips for diving and snorkeling

Sharm El Sheikh, diving and snorkeling just belong together. In the small one resort There are dozens of dive centers and boat charters where you can go out and snorkel. If you don't have a diving license yet, just try snorkeling! You can discover many coral reefs and admire marine animals even from the surface of the water.

From the reef: If you travel to Egypt, should go as a diver, snorkeler or swimmer in the water! Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer
From the reef: If you travel to Egypt, should go as a diver, snorkeler or swimmer in the water! Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

Alternatively, you can also get an introduction to freediving. You dive to a depth of several meters without any equipment and can explore the reef with just one breath. The basics of freediving can be learned relatively quickly and are offered by many shops. However, when choosing your snorkeling boat, you should read reviews on the Internet beforehand and make sure that you choose a provider that is not overcrowded.

Of course you can do a boat tour without it Diving and snorkeling attend. Often there is delicious food and you can meet new people. In addition, the lagoons on the reefs invite you to swim and the upper deck of the boats is briefly converted by the guests into a diving tower.

St. Catherine's Monastery and Moses Mountain

The cradle of our western civilization is located on the Sinai. On Mount Gebel Musa, about two hours' drive from Sharm El Sheikh, Moses is said to have received the Ten Commandments tablets. At the foot of the mountain is the world famous St. Catherine's Monastery, which is probably the most popular destination on Sinai. Mount Gebel Musa and the monastery are today a UNESCO World Heritage Site. At least as breathtaking as its history is the view from this place over the whole Sinai mountains.

Visit to Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza

From Sharm El Sheikh, you can also visit the capital city of Cairo and Giza Pyramids, which are now surrounded by the metropolis. With over 20 million inhabitants, Cairo is one of the largest cities in the world and one of the places one should absolutely see. The unique ambience of this hectic and lively city will captivate you.

And while you're there, you can of course also directly visit the pyramids. They are now surrounded by a few meters from the giant city. Comfortable flights from Sharm El Sheikh to Cairo are several times daily with Egyptair. In addition to visits to Cairo, Aswan and Luxor can also be visited. However, this requires a more detailed travel planning.

Excursion to Dahab

Very worthwhile is also a trip to the dreamy fishing village Dahab. From Sharm El Sheikh you can reach the village within an hour. Dahab is next to Sharm the second major resort on the Sinai. Dive centers and hookah bars line the harbor promenade. Compared to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab is even more relaxed and relaxed. You can shop here and relax. In addition, Dahab is known for its dive sites. Here you will find, among other things, the infamous Blue Hole of Dahab, which is very popular with divers, but also very demanding.

Short trip to Jordan

Aqaba in Jordan is also just a stone's throw away from Sharm El Sheikh. You can easily take a day trip to the city on the Red Sea, which is also very popular with divers. The ancient Jordanian city of Petra is also easy to reach. The burial temples in Petra are also a UNESCO cultural heritage site worth seeing. It's not without reason that a part of Indiana Jones was filmed here.

From our own experience we can only say: the perceived security in Sharm El Sheikh is very high. We felt at least as safe there as we did in Germany. The threat of terrorism is currently present everywhere. It is available in Hamburg and other German cities as well as in Sharm El Sheikh. The local authorities are aware of this. The security situation in Sharm El Sheikh is therefore very good. The emergency services on site keep an eye on the tourists. Every effort is made to prevent incidents.

After the bombing of the Russian plane at the end of October 2015, there were also worries about air traffic to Sharm El Sheikh. Since this grave and regrettable incident, the authorities have done their utmost to prevent similar events. The security measures at Sharm El Sheikh airport are extremely high and felt even higher than in Germany. All people who want to leave from here have to go through a strict security procedure and are thoroughly screened. The same applies to suitcases.

Our personal opinion is that it is currently just as dangerous in Sharm El Sheikh as in Germany, Europe or anywhere else in the world. Terrorism currently threatens all countries. We always felt very safe in Sharm El Sheikh and can therefore fully recommend a trip to Egypt to the Sinai Peninsula.

When is the best time to visit Sharm El Sheikh?

The answer is very simple: always, just not in midsummer - because in midsummer temperatures can rise to 50 degrees Celsius. From the end of September to the beginning of May, however, the temperatures are warm to hot (around 33 to 35 degrees Celsius), but very bearable due to the low humidity and the constantly refreshing wind. During the day, despite a lot of sun, they barely reach 32 degrees and at night the values can drop to 23 degrees. Reason enough for many Egyptians to put on a thick jacket. For Europeans, however, the guaranteed sunshine and consistently high temperatures have an almost magical appeal and make the small holiday resort on the Red Sea an attractive and healing experience for body and mind.

Travel report Sharm El Sheikh – tips for an unforgettable vacation

My detailed conclusion

In my travel report Sharm El Sheik I have put together the most important information about the popular seaside resort on the Red Sea. Many Germans have lived in South Sinai for decades and rave about the region - Sharm El Sheikh has been recommended to me many times. A few years ago I went diving in Dahab for a few days, but I hadn't gotten to know Sharm before. In the meantime I can understand the raving, because as I hope I have made clear in my Sharm El Sheikh travel report, the vacation spot is incredibly diverse and ideal for a relaxed vacation. I personally find the place much nicer and more pleasant than the tourist center Hurghada on the west coast. In Sharm it is much quieter and more relaxed, also much tidier and less bustling.

The landscape of the Sinai is very similar to the western Red Sea coast. Especially due to the contrast between the barren desert landscape and the sea, the area is simply beautiful with a wonderful climate - even in midsummer with the heat you can endure it quite well due to the drought.

In the last few years I have basically had very good experiences with the resorts and hotels in Egypt. The hotels of the higher categories offer a lot of luxury and comfort. And the highlight, especially for divers, is of course underwater: the underwater world of the Red Sea, which has since recovered from tourism and shines in full splendor, is unbeatable. Anyone who comes to Sharm El Sheik to dive and snorkel is guaranteed to have unforgettable experiences on colorful reefs and with fascinating marine animals.

The trip to Sharm El Sheikh took place with the kind support of Cleopatra Luxury Resorts. However, I also stick to it Press trips I propose to describe my impressions on site completely honestly and authentically.
