Egypt Diving holiday at the Three Corners Equinox in Marsa Alam: manatee, dolphin and turtle

In the lonely bay of Marsa Samadai it is so quiet and deserted that you could easily hear a pin drop. No man's land in the middle of Egypt - On the one side the Red Sea, opposite the mountains and the foothills of the Sahara. Spooky eerily beautiful. All you hear is the soft sound of the turquoise sea and the wind blowing through the bushes. I enjoy the serenity and the salty, dry Egyptian air until a loud call brings me back to reality: "Briefing!" The guide calls us together and after a brief briefing it starts - over the sandy beach into the fresh, turquoise water and left shoulder to the reef. Madness!

After four years break, I'm finally back in the Red Sea on a dive trip in Egypt - and just back and forth: The coral, which fall on steep walls in the depth or Ergs grow with their whole colorful splendor like colorful towers from the soil, the abundance of fish the colorful parrot fish, barracuda and mackerel - and the usual 30 meter visibility feel like a dive in the aquarium.

"Directly in front of the base is one of the largest and most beautiful house reefs in Egypt," explains Mohamed Saleh, base manager of the Extra Divers Equinox, to the welcome and awakens with me the not unfounded hope for a few very special dives. What I mean by extraordinary, above all, is the contact with marine animals that you do not get to see every day: Hedge, Rays and turtles I would like to see in front of the mask in the coming days. "If you're lucky, it should work," says the likeable 35 year-old, who has been running the base at Equinox Beach Resort since last November. Because Sharks in the Red Sea there are plenty. The four-star hotel has recently reopened and the base has been redesigned.

Egypt diving vacation in Marsa Alam: simply impressive

The Equinox with his extensive gardens, private beach and beach bar, invites you to take a break between the dives and to keep your feet in one of the refreshing pools. "I especially like that the staff is always friendly and present. That's excellent! "Says Patrick Schmidt, who dives together with his girlfriend Luisa.

With the Zodiac we head for the reef Umm Halhalla. It consists of several ergs, a central massif and an outer plateau. Between the coral towers, a kind of canyon leads along, so we first circle this adventure playground outside and then dive back through the ditch. During the tour, the "Who's Who" of the underwater world comes in: On the plateau we encounter two large eagle rays in formation flight, a flock of tunas, barracudas and a hawksbill turtle.

So many turtles I have only seen in the Gili Islands! As we dive through the valley between the blocks, we pass a cave in which two reef sharks sleep in the immediate vicinity of a giant moraine and do not let themselves be irritated by my advances. Wow, that was amazing!

The Equinox Marsa Alam has a wonderful house reef - there you can directly observe the manatee! Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

More is hardly possible. Or is it? Because on the way back, as we head for the jetty, a fabulous creature appears splashing beside the boat, with whom I did not expect so much! A little manatee shows up next to us and immediately leaves. With fins and mask, Buddy Patrick and I immediately jump into the water for the strange animal that looks like a mix of whale, dolphins and seal, I think I'm in the wrong movie! But when the tame giant shows up snorting right next to me, he just feels too real.

One estimates the existence of these rare beings on approximately seven copies throughout the Red Sea. Two of them regularly stop by the Equinox's house reef, which is just a stone's throw north of Abu Dabab. Back at the base, I tell base manager Mohamed about my experiences. But he is unimpressed: “The variety of hard and soft corals and fish can hardly be surpassed here.

As you have seen, even the famous manatees of Abu Dabab have discovered our house reef. Otherwise you often encounter sharks, moray eels, turtles, eagle rays and much more.” Mine – by definition – Exceptional dives you would otherwise only experience on liveaboards seem to be the rule rather than the exception in Marsa Alam.

Mövenpick Resort El Quseir experiences and ratings

El Quadim bay in El Quseir: Egypt Diving holiday for upscale guests in Mövenpick Resort

Second stop on my journey is a bay steeped in history: El Quadim Bay, a few miles north of El Quseir, was once one of Egypt's oldest commercial ports and is now the first choice for divers, as it hides beneath the surface of the water probably the most beautiful house reef in the Red Sea, "And the second most beautiful in the world!" Adds base manager Marc Hügi. The 45-year-old Swiss manages the Extra Divers basis, which is located in the middle of the bay in a historic building and since March 2011 as the successor to the well-known Subex Center the diving operation.

I'm going to dive the bay, which used to be the point of contact for ships before 5000, along with the experienced guide Mohamed. The 40 year old dives half his life in this area and knows almost every fish by name. This is confirmed by regular guest Daniel Rohrer, who attaches great importance to the service and the individual care of the center: "The guides are very competent and have a really good eye under water!"

We go on an exploratory tour of this exciting adventure playground, which offers a number of variants: left and right as well as in the center are large, with soft and hard coral covered reef blocks, some of which grow like towers to the surface. Blue spotted stingrays, crocodile fishes and much smaller animals bustle at this extraordinary house spot. Even dolphins can be seen here and now.

"Last year even has one Whale Shark strayed into the bay with us, "reports Hügi. The giant fish had floated right near the entrance to the bay and amazed both tourists and guides. If you are less interested in big fish, you can devote yourself to an exciting macro area in the middle of the lagoon and look for seahorses on the sandy bottom or look out for eagle ray babies, because the sheltered reefs are the nursery for many species. A truly extraordinary underwater adventure playground, where I spend hours exploring and still finding new corners.

The Mövenpick Resort El Quseir is excellent

When I'm not in the water, I enjoy my time at the hotel: At the end of March the evenings on the Red Sea are not coldbut quite fresh. Packed into a cuddly sweater, you can take a walk on the private beach or stroll through the green hotel complex, built in the style of a Nubian village and bathed in golden light for the evening.

Another real highlight is the dinner, which is simply unbeatable in Mövenpick. As standard, the five-star hotel offers an international and oriental menu in the orangery with live cooking and occasional themed dinner buffets, which is personally supervised by the German chef. Hotel and dive center are located in the premium segment and in harmony, so that they mesh like the gears of a Swiss clockwork.

"Many of our divers have been loyal patrons for years and years the plane Several times a year - record holder is a guest with 1111 dives in the El Quadim Bay. In our dive center, we place great emphasis on quality rather than quantity. A guide is responsible for a maximum of four divers. In addition, our reef is an eco-bay, so the number of dives per day is limited! "Says Hügi. It is therefore advisable to book in advance in order not to miss this unique adventure playground!

How about a maritime bracelet as the perfect accessory for your next trip?

Beautiful maritime bracelets can be found on Amazon – for women, men and children. A Bracelet is always a nice gift idea - or a great way to treat yourself. With a maritime bracelet you show your passion for the sea and travel in a very special way.

Sharm El Naga: Diving with pure nature and almost alone on the reef

My third port of call also has a lot to offer both in terms of diving and on dry land: The Extra Divers base and the surrounding Viva Blue Resort are brand new and were only opened in March of this year. The hotel is specially designed for the needs of divers. The Resort and Dive Center are located in a shallow dive spot in the relatively small bay of Sharm el Naga, nestled at the outer edges of two distinctive spots.

"We want a little paradise here far from the tourist crowds Grow, "explained the basics couple Marisa tree and Robert Mutzbauer, who put all their energy into the construction of the Dive Center. Because far from the tourists also means: far away from the diving crowds! And I can now get a picture of myself. It is still very quiet here so I can fully enjoy the tranquility and seclusion of this resort. Finally switch off! And from my large ocean view room, all you need to do is go down the stairs to get to the base, which is directly integrated into the hotel.

The number of guests is still manageable and therefore we can concentrate fully on a few relaxed dives. Together with Guide Saber and Robert I start to some unique diving trips: From the base it is only two minutes walk to the Jetty. From there you can either left or right shoulder into the house reef - a miles long, extensive fringing reef - start, or take the Zodiac to the more remote spots. Well-known places abound in the surrounding area: "If you want some variety, you can take part in one of the daily trips to the beautiful reefs of Soma Bay and the surrounding area.

For example, we can reach the Shab Saiman dive site in about five minutes with our Zodiac. This is one of the most beautiful places you can find here on the coast." Robert's partner Marisa agrees: "Yes, I still remember the very first shark encounter of my diving career very well - that was a reef shark at Shab Saiman! We can also reach other well-known places such as Tobia Island, Abu Soma Garden, Ras el Arab and many more by Zodiac. And the full-day trips lead, for example, to the 'Salem Express', to the well-known Panorama Reef and in the direction of Hurghada.”

We explore during our tours the most beautiful spots right on your doorstepin which not many dives have taken place yet. The growth with hard and soft corals is an absolute eye-catcher! Along the cliffs, there are countless, giant table corals hiding zigzags and giant moray eels. At the spot Sadana is an antique wreck with well-preserved amphorae. And as a farewell, I can still enjoy a tête-à-tête with a turtle. And I realize: next time I will not wait another four years until I visit the Red Sea.

FAQs Egypt - the most important questions and answers

I have put together the most important questions and answers about your Egypt vacation for you, so that you can travel well-informed and your tour will be even more beautiful.

When is the best time to visit Sharm El Sheikh?

The answer is very simple: always, just not in midsummer - because in midsummer temperatures can rise to 50 degrees Celsius. From the end of September to the beginning of May, however, the temperatures are warm to hot (around 33 to 35 degrees Celsius), but very bearable due to the low humidity and the constantly refreshing wind. At the end of October, temperatures drop on the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt.

During the day, despite a lot of sun, they barely reach 32 degrees and at night the values can drop to 23 degrees. Reason enough for many Egyptians to put on a thick jacket. For Europeans, however, the guaranteed sunshine and consistently high temperatures have an almost magical appeal and make the small holiday resort on the Red Sea an attractive and healing experience for body and mind.

Where is the most beautiful place in Egypt?

Egypt has many beautiful corners that are suitable for sun-seeking beach vacationers as well as for adventurers, explorers and water sports enthusiasts. Divers and kite surfers in particular love the Red Sea. Some of the most beautiful places to visit in Egypt include:
1. Sharm El Sheikh
2. Marsa Allam
3. Makadi Bay
4. El Quseir
5. El Gouna
6. Cairo
7.Luxor
8. Hurghada
This is my personal ranking. Cairo is a bit out of the way, as it is of course difficult to compare the metropolis with the small holiday resorts.

Which hotels in Egypt are recommended?

In Egypt there is a very long list of recommended hotels, most of which are located on the Red Sea and are suitable for fans of beach vacations, diving vacations and wellness vacations. I have stayed in numerous Egypt hotels over the years and so far I can recommend every single one of them:
1. Cleopatra Luxury Resort Sharm El Sheikh
2. Movenpick El Quseir
3. The Breakers Soma Bay
4. Movenpick Resort Soma Bay
5. Cleopatra Luxury Resort Makadi
6. The Three Corners Fayrouz Plaza Beach Resort
7. Orca Diving Village Safaga
8. The Three Corners Equinox Beach Resort
9. Tropitel Dahab Oasis
10. Viva Blue Resort Sharm El Naga
11. Menaville Safaga

Where is it better Hurghada or Sharm el Sheikh?

When it comes to the resorts all alone, I think Sharm El Sheikh is far more beautiful and better than Hurghada. The place is much cleaner, looks much more well-kept and is much quieter and more dignified. Hurghada is very busy and loud. However, the region around Hurghada is beautiful and there is an incredible amount to do and experience along the coast - in holiday resorts such as El Gouna, Makadi Bay, Safaga, El Quseir and Marsa Alam. Excursions are only possible to a limited extent on the Sinai, as some parts of the peninsula - especially the northern part - are considered unsafe.

Is it dangerous to travel to Hurghada?

According to the Foreign Office, there is still a certain risk of terrorist attacks across Egypt. However, it is very, very safe in the Red Sea resorts. The risk for Hurghada is rather low. During a vacation in Hurghada, one should rather beware of the typical dangers of vacation: intrusive vendors, pickpockets and rotten food can quickly spoil the holiday pleasure. Basically, you can feel very safe on site.

How dangerous is it to travel to Egypt now?

In principle, there is still an increased risk of terrorist attacks in Egypt, there is no question about that. Vacationers who want to travel to Egypt should definitely follow the instructions of the Foreign Office keep. The information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the best source of information for German citizens and should be followed as far as possible. Incidentally, the same applies to all travel destinations on the Red Sea.

Is Sharm El Sheikh Safe?

In principle, this question cannot be answered with a yes or no. Vacationers who want to travel to Sharm El Sheikh should definitely follow the advice of the Federal Foreign Office. The information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the best source of information for German citizens and one should act accordingly. Incidentally, the same applies to the other travel destinations on the Red Sea in Egypt.

What does Sharm el Sheikh mean?

Sharm El Sheikh (also Sharm el Sheikh or Sharm El Sheikh) means something like Bay of the Sheikh. The place is located on a beautiful bay - Naama Bay - which really deserves its name.

Until when does the travel warning from the Foreign Office apply to Egypt?

As of October 2023, there is only a partial travel warning for Egypt, which does not affect the holiday resorts on the Red Sea. That's what it says Foreign Office: “There is still an increased risk of terrorist attacks across the country. These are mostly aimed at Egyptian security authorities, but occasionally also at foreign targets and citizens. […] A warning is given against travel to the north of the Sinai Peninsula, the Egyptian-Israeli border area (with the exception of Taba) and remote areas of the Sahara. Unaccompanied, individual excursions and overland trips in the south of the Sinai Peninsula are not recommended. […] There is a warning against travel to remote areas of the Sahara, including the border areas with Libya and Sudan.” There is no travel warning for the western Red Sea resorts such as Hurghada, Safaga and Marsa Alam.

Can you travel to Egypt as a Swiss citizen?

Yes, as a Swiss you can travel to Egypt. A visa is required for this, which can be applied for upon entry - "Visa-on-arrival". To do this, travelers need a Swiss passport that is valid for at least six months. The visa costs around 28 euros (price may have changed in the meantime).

What do you need to enter Egypt?

To enter Egypt, a visa is required, which can be applied for upon entry - "Visa-on-arrival". To do this, travelers need a valid passport that is valid for at least six months. A temporary passport is also accepted. The visa costs around 28 euros (price may have changed in the meantime).

When is it cheapest in Egypt?

Many Europeans - especially families - travel to Egypt during the holiday season. Accordingly, the most expensive trip is during the school holidays. If you want to save, you should book your vacation outside of this time - then it is cheapest in Egypt. Basically, you should book the trip four to eight weeks before departure. Spontaneous vacationers should keep an eye out for super last minute offers, where the departure takes place immediately after booking. In this way, up to 70 percent of the travel price can be saved.

Is it possible to travel to Egypt as a package?

Egypt is one of the most popular package travel destinations - so yes, you can travel to Egypt as a package. Since the trip to Egypt is secured when booking through a tour operator, a package tour is recommended for Egypt. Of course, you can also book your holiday in the land of the pharaohs individually - flights via Istanbul and Cairo are easy to book. In addition, the hotels can be conveniently reserved over the Internet. Individual planning is particularly useful for round trips.

How long is the flight from Egypt to Germany?

Egypt can be reached relatively quickly from Central Europe and thus also from Germany. The actual flight time is four to five hours for direct flights. In the case of connecting flights in Istanbul and Cairo, for example, the travel time can be extended to eight to 12 hours.

When is it the windiest in Egypt?

It's almost always windy on the Red Sea in Egypt - I've rarely seen the Red Sea with little wind. The period from October to May should be less windy. However, I cannot confirm that. So far I have had a lot of wind at the Red Sea in Egypt in every season.

Where are the most beautiful house reefs in Egypt?

The most beautiful house reef for diving and snorkeling that I have seen in Egypt is at the Mövenpick Resort El Quseir. The who's who of marine life can be found there - dolphins and whale sharks also stop by here from time to time. One of the most beautiful coral gardens in the Red Sea is also located here.

Where are the best places to go snorkeling in Egypt?

For snorkeling I would recommend the Three Corners Equinox near Marsa Alam. There I was able to see the Marsa Alam manatee while snorkeling. Dolphins can also be seen snorkeling here. And the underwater landscape also has a lot to offer in other ways. Basically, you can snorkel very well along the entire Red Sea coast in Egypt.

Can you bathe in Egypt in winter?

Why not go to Egypt?

I really don't know why you shouldn't travel to Egypt at the moment. You can really have a good and cheap holiday in the land of the pharaohs. How safe is it in Marsa Alam

There is a comparatively low crime rate in Marsa Alam. And otherwise I felt very safe in the region. The hotels and resorts are surrounded by police stations and have their own guards who will not let strangers into the hotel. Places like Port Ghalib and Marsa Alam can also feel very safe. One gets the feeling that the Egyptian government wants to give holidaymakers a strong sense of security - and they are succeeding.

Where is the best place to snorkel in Marsa Alam?

Basically, many hotels in the Marsa Alam region have their own house reef, where you can go snorkeling. It is also worth snorkeling in Marsa Mubarak Bay, where the manatee (the dugong) often resides. In this case, however, you should definitely follow the safety instructions and travel warnings of the Foreign Office mistake for Egypt.

How is Marsa Alam?

From the point of view of holidaymakers, the Marsa Alam region is meant more and less the small town itself. The area is definitely one of the most beautiful corners of Egypt, as there are some excellent hotels and resorts here on the Red Sea coast, secluded beaches, the Wadi el Gemal National Park and a particularly large number of marine animals such as sea turtles and the famous manatees. In addition, the region is particularly quiet and not as touristy as the area around Hurghada.

Where is the most beautiful place in Marsa Alam?

The entire Marsa Alam region is very beautiful and is certainly one of my favorite areas in Egypt, as it is particularly quiet and relaxed here. Personally, I find the area all the more beautiful the further south you go in the direction of the Wadi el Gemal National Park, as it tends to be quieter. There are beautiful beaches and where there are not so many snorkelers and divers around, the marine life increasingly comes out of their hiding places. I would therefore choose a hotel south of the city of Marsa Alam.

Travel Information Egypt

Arrival, best travel time, safety

A trip to Egypt can be an unforgettable experience. I've been to Egypt about 20 times in the past 20 years - especially for diving and snorkeling, but also to enjoy the luxury of the great hotels and resorts on site. You might like it too? But before you pack your bags, there are a few things to consider. In this compilation of the most important travel information you will find out how best to get to Egypt, when is the best time to travel and what you should consider when booking hotels and transfers. The issue of security also plays an important role, as many holidaymakers are unsettled by the political situation and the risk of attacks. With these tips and advice you will be optimally prepared for your vacation in Egypt and can enjoy the beauty and culture of the country to the fullest.

Egypt – guide and background information

Egypt is a country rich in history, culture and fascinating landscapes. Every year many tourists come to Egypt to visit the Pyramids of Giza, the Temples of Luxor or the beaches of the Red Sea. So that you can optimally plan your holiday in Egypt, I have put together some tips and background information for you here. Find out more about how to get there, the best time to travel, hotels, transport and safety in Egypt.

Arrival to Egypt

Egypt is a fascinating travel destination that lures with its rich culture, stunning nature and pleasant climate. But what is the best way to travel to Egypt? In this blog post I would like to give you some tips and information on how to plan and organize your trip to Egypt. The easiest and fastest way to get to Egypt is by plane. There are numerous direct flights to Egypt from Central Europe, which take between four and six hours, depending on the departure point. Most holidaymakers fly into one of the four major airports on the Red Sea coast or along the Nile: Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Marsa Alam or Luxor. These airports offer good connections to the most popular resorts and attractions in Egypt.

When you book a package tour to Egypt, you often have the option to choose from different airlines. But you should not only pay attention to the price, but also to the quality and safety of the flights. I personally prefer established European airlines like Lufthansa, Swiss or Austrian Airlines. They usually offer good service, high reliability and high security standards. Also, they often have great deals for early bookers or last-minute travelers.

An alternative to direct flights are flights with a stopover in Cairo or Istanbul. These can sometimes be cheaper or offer more flexibility. For example, you can combine a city trip to Cairo or Istanbul with your beach holiday in Egypt. Or you can fly from Cairo to other destinations in Egypt that aren't served directly from Central Europe. For example, you can fly from Cairo to Alexandria, Aswan or Abu Simbel.

The airlines that fly via Cairo or Istanbul are Egypt Air and Turkish Airlines. Both are renowned airlines with a good reputation and an extensive route network. Egypt Air is the national airline of Egypt and a member of Star Alliance. Turkish Airlines is the national airline of Turkey and a member of the SkyTeam alliance. Both offer good service, a modern fleet and an attractive frequent flyer program.

As you can see, there are many ways you can plan your trip to Egypt. Depending on your preferences, budget and travel destination, you can choose the option that suits you best. I hope this blog post gave you some useful tips and information. I wish you a safe journey and have fun in Egypt!

Best travel time Egypt - ideal travel destination for the whole year

Egypt is a fascinating country with a rich history, diverse culture and breathtaking landscapes. Whether you want to marvel at the Pyramids of Giza, explore the Temples of Luxor or discover the underwater world of the Red Sea, Egypt has something for everyone. But when is the best time to visit this beautiful country? The answer depends on what you want to do in Egypt and how you deal with the climatic conditions. Egypt has an arid desert climate with large temperature fluctuations between day and night. The seasons can be divided into four categories: spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Sharm El Sheikh travel report tips The place is peaceful and sleepy: The perceived security is high, in Sharm El Sheik it is currently not dangerous. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer
Plenty of sun and warmth: the sun shines almost all year round on the Red Sea in Egypt. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

Spring (March, April and May) and autumn (September, October, November and December) are considered the best times to visit Egypt. These months have pleasant temperatures between 25 and 35 degrees Celsius, ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities. The water temperatures are between 22 and 28 degrees Celsius and are ideal for a refreshing dip in the sea. You can also look forward to bright sunshine, because it almost never rains in Egypt. With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, Egypt is one of the sunniest countries in the world.

Winter (January and February) is the coolest season in Egypt. Temperatures drop to an average of 18 to 22 degrees Celsius, which is still comfortably warm but perhaps not enough for a beach holiday. On the other hand, you can enjoy the sights without big crowds because winter is the low season in Egypt. In addition, the prices for accommodation and flights are often cheaper than in the high season. Winter is also a good time for a desert safari or Nile cruise as it is not as hot as summer.

Summer (June, July and August) is the hottest season in Egypt. Temperatures soar up to 48 degrees Celsius, which can be unbearable for many travellers. The humidity is very low, but there is often a strong wind that acts like a hot hair dryer. Summer is only recommended for those who like or can stand extreme heat. If you decide to go on a summer holiday in Egypt, make sure you protect yourself well from the sun and drink plenty of water. Summer is also a good time for a diving holiday in the Red Sea as the water is clear and warm.

As you can see, there is no clear answer to the question of the best time to travel to Egypt. It depends on what you want to experience and how you feel. Egypt is a land of contrasts and adventures that will enchant you at any time of the year.

Egypt Safety – How Dangerous is it to Travel to Egypt Right Now?

Egypt is a fascinating travel destination with a rich culture, impressive nature and a long history. But how safe is it to travel to Egypt now? That question worries many potential visitors, drawn by the country's beauty but also put off by the potential dangers. In the following I would like to give you an overview of the current security situation in Egypt and share some tips for a safe and relaxed journey with you.

I recommend an established airline for travel to Egypt. There are also some charter companies that make a rather unsafe impression. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

First of all, it must be said that Egypt is not a single country, but consists of different regions that pose different risks. The Foreign Office distinguishes four zones: the north of the Sinai Peninsula, the Egyptian-Israeli border area (with the exception of Taba), the remote areas in the Sahara and the seaside resorts on the Red Sea. There is a travel warning for the first three zones, which states that traveling there is strongly discouraged.

The reason for this is the high risk of terrorist attacks, which are mainly directed against Egyptian security forces, but can also affect foreign targets and citizens. In addition, armed conflicts between different groups or with the military often occur in these areas. The situation there is very unstable and confusing, and arbitrary arrests or kidnappings can occur. Therefore, these areas should be avoided at all costs.

However, there is no travel warning for holiday resorts on the western Red Sea such as Hurghada, Safaga and Marsa Alam. However, that doesn't mean it's completely safe there. There is still an increased risk of terrorist attacks, even if they are less frequent than in other parts of the country. Therefore, one should always be vigilant and follow the instructions of the local authorities. Especially at public events or crowds of people you should be careful and not stay too long. Even on excursions to historical sites or into the desert, you should only travel with reputable providers and adhere to the applicable rules.

Most tourists come to Egypt to enjoy the sun and sea. The Red Sea is known for its breathtaking underwater world and offers ideal conditions for divers and snorkelers. However, there are some risks you should be aware of. On the one hand, you should protect yourself from dangerous sea creatures such as sharks or poisonous jellyfish. This includes finding out about the current situation, sticking to the designated bathing zones and not feeding or attracting any fish. Secondly, you should protect yourself from sunburn or heat stroke. This includes drinking plenty of water, wearing a hat, and applying sunscreen with a high SPF.

As you can see, Egypt is not a country without risks. But it's also not a country without charms. If you are well informed, prepare and behave well, you can have a wonderful time in this diverse country. Personally, I have always felt comfortable in Egypt and met many friendly and helpful people. I would go there again anytime and recommend it to you. However, there is another factor that can affect your travel to Egypt: road traffic. I must admit that I have never seen such chaotic and dangerous roads as in Egypt. Drivers hardly obey traffic rules or speed limits, overtake dangerously, use the phone at the wheel or drive without seatbelts. So always buckle up!

Hotels and resorts in Egypt

Egypt is a fascinating travel destination that attracts many visitors with its rich culture, impressive pyramids and breathtaking nature. But for your holiday in Egypt to be an unforgettable experience, you also need suitable accommodation that suits your needs. In this blog post you will learn what to look out for when choosing a hotel or resort in Egypt and what tips can help you find the best deal.

Sharm El Sheikh travelogue tips Rooms at the Cleopatra Luxury Resort in Sharm El Sheikh: spacious and luxurious. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer
In Egypt you will find excellent, luxurious hotels and resorts primarily in the four and five star range. Photo: Sascha Tegtmeyer

The quality standards of hotels in Egypt are not always comparable to those in Europe. That's why you shouldn't just rely on the star rating, but also pay attention to other criteria such as location, facilities, food and hygiene. A good starting point are the reviews of other travelers, which you can find on portals such as Tripadvisor or Holidaycheck.

There you can get an impression of other guests' experiences and also search for specific topics such as bugs, service or entertainment. If you want to be on the safe side, you should stay away from hotels with a lot of negative or fake reviews.

Another important point is the food. In Egypt there are often no shops or restaurants close to the hotel, so you have to rely on what the hotel has to offer. It is therefore advisable to book at least half board, full board or all inclusive so that you do not have to worry about anything and always have something to eat and drink. All inclusive has the advantage that you also have alcoholic drinks and snacks included and can save even more. You can also minimize the risk of stomach upset from contaminated water or food.

The prices for hotels in Egypt are very affordable compared to other countries. But that doesn't mean you have to forego luxury. There are many beautiful hotels and resorts in Egypt that offer you a high level of comfort and a wonderful atmosphere. Whether you prefer to relax on the beach, cool off in the pool or explore the underwater world, you'll find something to suit every taste.

Many hotels also have their own spa area where you can pamper yourself with massages or beauty treatments. Or how about a trip to the Pyramids of Giza or the Valley of the Kings? The possibilities are endless. To find the perfect hotel in Egypt, you should follow the following steps:

  • Decide on a region or place that interests you.
  • Compare the prices and services of the various providers and booking portals.
  • Read reviews from other travelers and look for authentic opinions.
  • Choose accommodation that suits your needs.
  • Book your hotel in good time and look forward to your dream vacation.

I hope this blog post has helped you learn more about hotels and resorts in Egypt and given you some tips on how to find the best deal for you. If you have any other questions or want to share your own experience, feel free to leave me a comment. I wish you a great trip!

Transfers to the hotel in Egypt

Have you decided on a package holiday to Egypt and are you looking forward to sun, beach and culture? Then you should also think about how you will get from the airport to the hotel. Because the traffic in Egypt is not without its problems: chaotic, loud and often inconsiderate. To avoid stress and risks, we recommend that you book your hotel transfer in advance. Here you can find out what options you have and what you need to pay attention to. When you book your package holiday, you usually have the option of booking the hotel transfer at the same time.

This has many advantages: You don't have to worry about anything because your tour operator organizes everything for you. You will be met at the airport by a member of staff or a sign with your name on it and taken to a bus or minibus that will take you directly to your hotel. You don't need to worry about your luggage because it will be stowed and unloaded for you. You also don't need to exchange money or negotiate because the price is already included in the package price.

The hotel transfer with the package tour is not only convenient, but also safe. You can be sure that the bus or minibus has all the necessary safety standards, such as seat belts for all passengers. In addition, the drivers are trained and know the route well. You drive carefully and obey the traffic rules. And if there is a problem, you always have a contact person on site. So, hotel transfer with package tour is the best option for those who want to sit back, relax and enjoy their vacation.

If you prefer to be independent and organize your hotel transfer yourself, you can also take a taxi. This is particularly useful if you haven't found a package deal or if you want to visit several hotels in different locations. A taxi offers you more flexibility and privacy than a bus or minibus.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind: Not all taxis in Egypt are reputable and safe. There are many black sheep who try to rip off tourists or sell them fake souvenirs. That's why you should always take an official taxi that you can find at a taxi rank or that your hotel arranges for you. You can recognize official taxis by their color (usually black and white or yellow) and their taximeter.

Before you get on, you should always negotiate the price with the driver. It's best to ask your hotel or tour operator about the usual prices for your route. This way you can avoid paying too much or the driver taking detours. Also, always insist that the driver turn on the meter. If he refuses or says he's broken, it's better to get out and find another taxi.

Another important point is safety: many taxis in Egypt do not have seat belts or they are intended only for the driver. This is very risky because traffic in Egypt is very dangerous. There are many accidents with serious consequences. That's why you should always make sure that your taxi has seat belts and that you use them. Even though it is not compulsory to wear a seatbelt in Egypt, you should not neglect your own safety.

Payment options in Egypt

If you are traveling to Egypt, you should be well informed about the payment options in this fascinating country. Although Egypt is a popular destination for many tourists, there are some peculiarities and challenges that you should be aware of if you want to pay there. In this blog post you will find out everything you need to know to optimally plan and manage your travel budget. The official currency in Egypt is the Egyptian pound (EGP), which is divided into 100 piastres.

You can exchange your euros or US dollars for EGP at banks or exchange offices, making sure you get a fair exchange rate. You can also find out about the current exchange rate online and get an overview of how much your home currency is worth in EGP. It is advisable to always have some EGP cash with you as you can use it to pay in most shops and restaurants. You will also need cash for tips, which are very common and expected in Egypt.

But you don't have to pay everything in EGP. In some shops and hotels you can also pay with euros or US dollars, especially in the tourist areas. This can come in handy if you don't want to exchange as much money or if you have some left over at the end of your trip. But be careful: the exchange rate is often very unfavorable for you and you pay more than necessary. That's why you should always ask for the price in EGP and compare whether it's worth paying in another currency.

Another way to get cash is to use ATMs. In most major cities and tourist locations you will find ATMs where you can withdraw money using your credit or debit card. This is often cheaper than changing cash and you always have enough EGP available. However, there are a few things to keep in mind when using ATMs in Egypt:

  • Choose an ATM that is in a safe environment, e.g. B. in a bank or a shop.
  • Avoid withdrawing money at night or in remote locations.
  • Protect your PIN and card from prying eyes or cameras.
  • Don't let strangers distract you or help you.
  • Check the ATM for tampering or suspicious devices.
  • Withdraw your card immediately after the transaction.
  • Keep your receipt and check your bank statements regularly.

Unfortunately, there are also repeated cases of ATM fraud in Egypt, where card details are copied or stolen. Therefore, you should always be careful and, if in doubt, go to another ATM. In addition to cash, you can also pay with credit cards, especially at most hotels and resorts. The most common credit cards are VISA and Mastercard, but other cards are also accepted in some cases. With a credit card you can pay conveniently and securely without having to carry a lot of cash around with you. However, you should find out beforehand whether your hotel or resort accepts credit cards and whether they charge any fees. Some hotels charge an additional fee for credit card payments or require a deposit upon arrival.

languages in Egypt

Egypt is a fascinating country that attracts many visitors with its rich history and culture. From the majestic pyramids and temples to the colorful bazaars and mosques, there is plenty to see and do. But Egypt is not only a country of the past, but also a country of the present and future, constantly changing and evolving. An important aspect of this dynamic is the linguistic landscape, which is as diverse and vibrant as the country itself. The official language of Egypt is Arabic, more specifically Egyptian Arabic, which is spoken by around 90% of the population. It is a dialect of Modern Standard Arabic, but differs in pronunciation, grammar and vocabulary. Egyptian Arabic has had a major influence on other Arabic dialects in the region and is also used in many Arabic media. In addition to Egyptian Arabic, there are other regional dialects such as Saidi Arabic in the south and Bedawi Arabic in the east.

In addition to Arabic, other languages are also spoken in Egypt, which often go back to an ethnic or religious minority. These include, for example, Coptic, the language of the Coptic Christians, Nubian, spoken by the inhabitants of the Nile Valley in the south, or Berber, spoken by the Amazigh in the west. These languages have a long tradition and are closely linked to the identity of their speakers.

Since Egypt is a popular tourist destination, many locals also speak foreign languages such as English, French, German or other languages. English is the most widely spoken foreign language and is often taught in schools. As the language of the former colonial power, French has historical significance and is primarily used in education and culture. German is a popular language among young Egyptians who are interested in Germany as a place to study or work. Other languages like Russian, Italian or Spanish are mainly spoken in tourist areas like Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh or Luxor, where many visitors come from these countries.

When traveling to Egypt, don't rely on being able to communicate in a foreign language everywhere. In some areas, especially in rural areas or less touristy locations, it can be difficult to find someone who speaks a language other than Arabic. It is therefore advisable to learn some basic Arabic expressions in order to get by in everyday life. Knowing numbers and amounts of money can also be an advantage when negotiating in markets or shops. Egypt tourist visa

Egypt is a fascinating travel destination with a rich culture and history. Whether you want to marvel at the Pyramids of Giza, take a Nile cruise or explore the colorful underwater world of the Red Sea, Egypt offers something for everyone. But before you set off on your dream trip, you should find out about the required tourist visa. In this blog post you will learn everything you need to know to get your visa for Egypt without any problems.

What is an Egypt tourist visa and who needs it?

An Egypt tourist visa is a document that allows you to enter and stay in Egypt for tourism purposes. It is required for most foreign nationals wishing to travel to Egypt. There are only exceptions for citizens of some African and Arab countries, who can enter without a visa or with a free entry visa. For a full list of visa-required and visa-free countries, visit the website of the Egyptian embassy in your home country.

How can I apply for a tourist visa for Egypt?

There are two ways to apply for an Egypt tourist visa: either in advance at the Egyptian embassy or consulate in your home country, or upon arrival at the airport in Egypt. Both options have their pros and cons, which you should weigh based on your personal preferences and circumstances.

If you decide to apply for your visa at the Egyptian Embassy or Consulate, you will need to fill out an application and submit it in person or by mail. You must also enclose your passport, a passport photo, a copy of your return flight ticket and a fee of around 38 euros (depending on the exchange rate). The processing time may vary depending on the workload of the embassy or consulate, but it usually takes around two weeks to receive your visa. The advantage of this method is that you will have your visa in your hands before you leave, saving you time and stress when you arrive. The downside is that you need to invest more money and effort and may have to appear in person at the embassy or consulate.

If you choose to apply for the visa upon arrival at the airport in Egypt, all you need to bring is your valid passport and round-trip ticket. You then need to go to a special counter where you need to fill out an application and pay a fee of about $25 (depending on the exchange rate). The visa will then be issued to you immediately and stuck into your passport. The advantage of this method is that you have less money and hassle upfront and you have more flexibility in your travel plans. The disadvantage is that you may have to put up with long waiting times at the airport and if the entry requirements change at short notice, you will no longer be able to get a visa.

How long is the Egypt tourist visa valid?

The Egypt tourist visa is valid for 90 days from the date of issue. It entitles you to a one-time stay of up to 30 days in Egypt. If you plan to stay longer than 30 days or enter Egypt more than once, you will need to apply for another visa.

What conditions does my passport have to meet?

To obtain a tourist visa for Egypt, your passport must be valid for at least six months.
